FF: Dawn of Souls version...I ran across the 'Death Machine' and it looked like the Warmech. Is this just a re naming thing? I ask mainly because I am wondering about completing the bestiary. And it was pretty easily destroyed...kinda of disappointing, I heard it was supposed to be really hard I thought. They must've toned it down ALOT more for this version than I honestly expected.

In the original NES version, the Warmech kicked ass. Even if you were ready to beat the game and just experience hunting, 4 Nuclears in a row would DEFINITELY give your team something to worry about.

In the PSX version, the Warmech is hard, but only a shadow of it's former self.

In Dawn of Souls' version, I haven't seen Warmech yet. Makes me kindof sad that they changed it's name.... and especially that it was so easy to defeat. sad.gif

Actually, I thought the Warmech to be a bit overrated, even in its NES heyday. Sure, it killed me a few times, but it wasn't OMG ATOMIC DEATH BOT. It was a powerful challenge for a party of L30 adventurers, yes, but more often than not, it died. Make no mistake, the original is dangerous, just not that dangerous.

Where did you find this "Death Machine"? What level was your party at? "Pretty easily destroyed" isn't a class I'd put the NES Warmech in, even given my opinion of its overratedness.

In comparison to the NES version, DoS is pathetic. Don't get me wrong, it is LOADS of fun (I, myself am addicted to it), but it's just ridiculously easy. For example, it took an excess of 3 hours to level a 4-thief party to level 8 on the NES. On DoS, I got my party to that level and beyond, and completed the Marsh Cave, in 20 minutes. Of course, I was using the fast forward function of the emulator a good deal, but still, the game time was like 38 minutes. As of now, I have four level 33 ninjas, and they absolutely kick ass. Having armed each with Temper and Haste (don't underestimate temper...I boosted my "Damage-Dealing" ninja to deal over 5000 damage at level 32 using the Ice Brand on a Hydra by having each use it on him, along with a single haste), they are a force to be reckoned with. I haven't lost a single thief, in contrast to on the NES when I lose one every other rest at the inn. Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't be surprised if Warmech was easy in this, since the game so far has been a joke.

P.S. After having used a party of 4 Ninjas, I have come to the conclusion that they are the single best class ever...they can equip decent armor and weapons and have insane evade (my "Defensive" ninja has like 91% evade and like 54 defense as of now. He is absolutely beastly. The most damage he takes now, if any, is like...25, which is nothing out of his 580 max HP). I can't wait until I get the Vorpal, Katana, and Masmune. That is going to be disgusting.

Edit
I just beat Tiamat, and am now on his bridge, trying to locate Warmech...no luck so far. Bomber, you DID fight him on that bridge before Tiamat, right? Anyways, my team in invincible. I am convinced that the best three spells in the game are Haste, Temper, and Sabre, when used collaboratively. After having one Ninja use Haste on my damage-dealer, two others using Temper on him, and himself using the Giant Glove's (uses sabre), he does an insane amount of damage. He one-hit killed both Kraken and Tiamat. To Kraken he did ~2400 damage and to Tiamat he did a whopping 2700 damage. And that's after a single round of boosting! Imagine if I did the same thing the second round, except the first Ninja would use either Temper or a healing rod.

Yes, Death Machine is on the bridge.

He wasn't that hard because you get to high levels faster in DoS. On the NES, I spent hours levelling in various places (including the Provoka/Lefein experience peninsula). On DoS, I never "stopped." I was at a higher level in DoS on the Warmech hallway than I was on the NES.

Yea I noticed that you level up crazy fast on DoS. I "never stopped", either, and I now find myself on a higher level than I've ever been on NES (i.e, level 53). Although it does make the SCC's easier, I don't really feel as accomplished breezing through the game with 4 ninjas. dry.gif I'd feel like I earned it more if I did it on NES, but that takes too long so ehh.

I was a little disappointed with the Weapon-type bosses. wink.gif

My party: Knight, Master, White Wiz, Black Wiz.
I had my Knight use Giant's Glove over and over while everyone else used stuff like Rune Staff and Heal Staff; nobody ever took any damage and my Knight was so ridiculously overpowered after a dozen rounds, a few hits ripped anything apart.

Warmech's just a random encounter with a very low rate. Unfortunately, it's also the best way to gain exp (8000 exp to my party for just one Death Machine? Gimme 4!! biggrin.gif) and the game's best armor. With a higher encounter rate, my party would be level 99 by now.

The two bosses at the end of the water dungeon (forgot the name) were pushovers as well. I read people on the GameFAQs boards had a hard time with their levels under 70 beating one of them; at level 60, I beat both bosses without even having to worry about losing at any point during the fight.

Then again.. maybe abusing items like that is cheating. wink.gif

Caesar, may I ask how you faced off against Shinryu?

Anyway, I'm just fighting the SoC dugeons over and over and over untill I'm postive I have every item and fought every enemy availible.

But the enemies are easier than I remember from NES.

Could you repeat that?

I didn't fight Shinryuu yet. I'm still on the bridge waiting for Death Machine so I don't hafta go back sometime to fight him (bestiary completion). I haven't played since I last posted, but once I do fight and absolutely murder Death Machine (that just doesn't sound right...how can you rename Warmech? It's so classic!) I'll go and beat the SoC bosses. Don't worry, I'll keep you posted. wink.gif

I was reading my FFI and II:DOS players guide and looked at the SoC bosses and they totaly changed the names for the FF6 Bosses, Ultros is called Orthros, and Chupon is now called Typhon now, I wonder why they had to change some of the Boss names in this game.

Edit
The Guide said "Death Machine" was harder then Tiamat as well, that is kind of weird. though.
Good point on how can you rename Warmech as well Ceasar.

Success!! I finally fought him, and yes, I do agree with your statement, Bomber; he is FAR too easy. I killed him in a single hit (refer to screenshot below) with my ninja. However, since he only hit me once, and not with Nuclear, I reloaded my savestate rom the beginning of the battle and fought him again, waiting for him to nuke me. He finally did, and it looked great, but did like 200 to everybody...that's weak. Now onto the Soul of Chaos bosses!

user posted image

Edit
I killed all 4 bosses of the Earthgift Shrine with no problems. Actually, Cerberus and Echidna (?) were killed in a single hit. The other two needed two hits, unfortunately. No casualties still. I decided to head into the fire place...the name evades my mind right now. Anyways, I killed Scarmiglione in three hits (one for the first form, two for the 2nd...i think) without healing after walking through fire for 3 or 4 levels. No casualties. The most recent boss I killed was Barbariccia. Took 3 hits, which is still respectable considering she (?) has 12k, and some change, HP. One Thief died, but was recovered before the end of the fight. The experience is still equal across the boards.

I just have a quick question regarding these SoC bosses...do I get the item they can drop every time I kill them? So far I have gotten all 6 possible items you get from killing each, but I didn't get the items from, oh, Kraken for example. Also, can anybody tell me where I might find the Ultima Weapone? Thanks.

I just defeated Shinryu tonight (along with a couple other baddies) and he drops the Ragnarok sword! Which replaced my Excalibur, making it (I think) even stronger than Masamune. I didn't ever once feel threatened by any of the SoC bosses so far. Kinda disapoointing but STILL this game is loads of fun.

The last two I decided to stop using the ol' Giant's Glove (Saber), Haste combo on my Knight and Master (heh and also on my Masamune weilding White WIzard from time to time when the extra turn comes around). It just makes the battles way to easy. I hope to get a better challenge from Omega than I did with Shinryu without using the Giant's Glove and Haste.

@Caesar
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Disapointingly enough, neither Shinryu nor Omega drop the Ultima Weapon. You get it in the wind dungeon, IIRC. Pretty frikin' awesome weapon; it's the Atma Weapon of FF1. Complete with the misleading attack power that makes it seem like an ungodly strong weapon compared to all others.

It's a shame they're so easy to kill though. And what's even worse is that, despite being the last of the four chaos soul dungeons, the wind one has easier bosses than the water one. By far, too. Not that Shinryu or Omega were any difficult, mind you.

I was expecting some REALLY hard fight where being level 99 only made things marginally easier. Nope. Beat it at level 45 without breaking a sweat (save for one boss where I got rather unlucky). Kinda disappointing. Oh well, maybe it'll be a little harder when I play my party of 4 black mages without offensive spells. biggrin.gif

Don't take too much pleasure from it if you're playing DoS, I don't think. I haven't gotten there yet myself, but if he's just as easy as everything else in DoS so far, he won't be a big deal.

Anyway, unless they moved him, which I rather doubt, he's on the long skinny bridge in the Sky Castle on L5, prior to Tiamat. He's a low-occurence enemy.

Here's a fun challenge: an SCC. No, not single class; single character. Trust me, it's harder than it looks.

First off, I created my party and other than my SCC character, made everyone into a black mage and had them die ASAP. Then I kept playing normally, selling off every (useless) phoenix downs, gold needles, and pieces of equipment I couldn't equip.

My first one was with a red mage, which soon turned out being VERY easy thanks to their wide range of equipment and spells. Good starting class. Didn't do every SoC dungeon though.

I'm playing a thief now. Up until the Earth Cave, everything was real easy. Then I got to Lich. Oh god, was that ever a (fun) challenge. I kept dying because his spells would damage me too much to recover fast enough, I'd get paralyzed, put to sleep, or worse of all, hit by Slow (at which point my damage went from 60 to about 1.) So I power-levelled my thief (I was hoping to save myself for when I'd get a class change...) and still had no luck. Then I cruised around with the ship, got the rat tail and some good equipment, bought a bunch of hi-potions, and had a much easier time. tongue.gif

Now that I have a ninja, I'm stocked with status-affecting spells. It's gotten a lot easier at this point, though I've never had to use some of the spells I used before. Cagnazzo kept killing me because Tsunami hit for nearly 300 every round, until I ended up hitting him with a couple of bind spells. Then I just breezed through the fight.

Looking forward to facing Shinryu and Ultima...

I suggest fighting Omega first. I beat him with my Ninja SCC (4 chars, not 1 though) after some strategizing. I wanted to keep my exp equal so I had to try to keep all my Ninjas alive...haha right. Anyways, I beat him with a single Ninja...just use the Defense sword over and over again to get rid of the threat of his physical attack, and then maybe a NulDeath item (forgot the name of it) to protect against Earthquake (like it ever connects anyways). Power Gauntlet and Haste are the way to go after that, until u finally decide to start doing damage. With the ultimate weapon, a large handful of Au/Ag apples, and a few power-boosting items/spells, I was doing near 4k per hit with that one Ninja. Shouldn't be hard for you at all. happy.gif

Death Machine is on the bridge to Tiamat, and it takes a while to find him. It took me about 30 minutes, but I am playing the cartridge, so I can't fast forward. 30 minutes of walking around leveled my guys up pretty well so the death machine wasn't that hard to beat. While we are talking about death machine, there are a couple of other rare monsters I know about.

One is the Tyrannosaur. It looks like the allosaurus, but is green. You can find them in the Yarnikurm desert. This is the humongous desert surrounding the mirage tower. It takes a while to find one, but when you do, they are a pushover. Only 600 hp.

The other one is the abyss worm. They are located in the Earth shrine on the floor with the endless desert. It takes a while to fight one, but they aren't that hard to beat. Only 2500 hp, so beef up one of your fighters or ninjas and it is a one hit kill. I think the best way to do it is to follow the trees to the oasis and then wander around there till you fight one. That way you can get out of the stupid desert and get through this boring dungeon you have to repeat four times to beat all the bosses. On a side note, these worms can drop megalixers, and those are always handy.

And, since people were asking...Typhon, DeathMachine, Orthros, Scarmaglione, etc etc are all the original japanese names for the characters...that's why in ff7 chupon was called "typoon" in case you were wondering. It seems to me that a lot of stuff about this game (changing Onlack back to Onrac, "I Garland will knock you all down", japanese monster names, inclusion of ff3-6 bosses...) were designed to entice the "hardcore"/"original"/etc ff players, and yet they created a paradox by making the game super easy, repelling said challenge-mongers...weird, but just the pleasure of fighting Orthros in final fantasy one made up for it...aaahh.
