How? Would save a lot of hassle to be able to, but I never saw the option listed when making a post. What am I missing?

If you want to add another quote, like this:

It's called copy/paste, an use the quote tag. Not that hard at all.

go to where you are typing, click the quote button.

Inside the quote part (between the "E" and the "]") copy/paste the member's name. Then copy their message and close the tag.

Well, how would you figure it would work differently? I'd be interested to know, because a couple ideas come to mind for me but neither of them really seem all that clear-cut. I don't use many other forums, so if you folks have seen it done elsewhere and done well, I'd like to see it too.

That said, it really is pretty easy if you're using the full reply screen - there's a button to kick off a quote and you can use it any number of times.

I want to be plain that I never said nor assumed that in the case that started this thread, nor do I advocate that point of view. I don't think it's a case of laziness. Unless Chewbekah meant that I was lazy for not implementing it already. That could be true.

No, I don't think you implementing it already is the lazy part. I just think it's not that big of a deal to go down to the rest of the posts and copy and paste the other people's thoughts you want in the answer box and put quote tags around it.. I know you don't agree with that point of view and that's fine.

I've seen a few forums with a multiquote function where you click on the option on each post you want to quote then click add reply or something along those lines. I couldn't tell you what forum software they were using but I'd have thought most would have the option in one way or another.

In the meantime, it's quick enough to middle click the quote option on each post you want to quote (if middle clicking opens a new tab for you) then just copy and pasting all the quotes into one post. I don't think it'll show the username of who the quote is from, but it shouldn't matter too much.

It amuses me just how many people are quoting each other in this particular thread. It is like we cannot help it.

As Cefca mentioned, I've used forums where, when using the full reply option, previous posts are shown in reverse order as they are here, however said posts still have a 'quote' option listed next to them which get automatically added directly to your post.

Y'all probably haven't seen me do much of my habit of "gigantposting", but sometimes, especially when there's a large number of very interesting posts I want to reply to, I find myself composing a long post with tons of replies.

I've actually learned to compose such posts in an external editor, such as Notepad or Metapad, if only because they're less easily lost by my browser having issues.

And when I do that, I have to copy-paste anyway.

Excellent, because that's pretty much exactly how I envisioned it myself. That said, it doesn't help the Fast Reply folks all that much, but something similar could work there too. Suppose I've backed myself into a corner in actually working on it now, eh?

That said, I doubt I'll get on it right away. The number of posts we get a day right now makes it a little hard to justify improvements on the forums, and we're also kind in an unofficial code freeze right now while we make some improvements to the server side (and learn new things in the process, which is just as important for the people who run this site ).

Also, you have to place an equal sign before the user's name. Like this: [QUOTE=BlitzSage]
