Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy Tactics > Straight Character Challenge Challenge!

Posted by: Suunok 3rd June 2013 05:46
Good morning, afternoon, or evening, folks! I'm feeling a bit of cooperative competitive spirit, so I'd like to challenge anyone and everyone to contribute to a team race, of sorts. As a group, I'd like to see how long it takes us to play through one Straight Character Challenge for each character class in the PSx version! If you're interested in giving this a shot, please reply here with the class you would like to play and keep us updated on your progress through the game.

As people reply stating which class they'd like to take, I'll edit this post to indicate who's doing what. If more than one person wants to do a specific class, I say go for it - the first person to complete each class will have their name marked here! For my part, I'm going to start with an Oracle SCC. Let's see how quickly we as a group can complete this task!

Ooh. This looks fun, and I've been meaning to get a new game going on my phone. I will first need to make sure that FFT has iCloud saving, since I am likely going to be getting a new phone in the middle of this challenge. I also assume that I won't be able to use the New Game + Fur Shop weapons from the iOS version of the game, right? tongue.gif

I might try Monk, but don't sign me up quite yet. I want to take a look at save game stuff.

So I'm probably gonna sign up and do this next monday or tuesday, but I'm gonna see what other people pick before I decide, since I'd like a bit more of a limitation on my choices.

I believe, to preserve the challenge, anything that was added in any remake version should be excluded; doubly so for those New Game+ items. tongue.gif

I forgot to ask, how do people want to go about the Calculator challenge? Should it be the Pure route or the Crystal Learning route, or should we try for one of each?

As if they were listening to me complain, there was an update for iOS on FFT just within the past few days that added iCloud support, so I might start one of these challenges soon. Would likely go for ... Monk.

And it's Mediator. Here we go

Alright, I'll put you both down for those classes for the time being.

For my part, I haven't quite gotten underway yet; I still need to unlock the Oracle class on a couple more characters, then have them learn an ability or two so I don't get slaughtered at Dorter. Any suggestions?

SO glad I found this post, I came up just before DTC today in my game. Could you add me as Geomancer?

Posted by: Suunok 11th June 2013 07:31
Adding as Geomancer will not be a problem. That puts us even at two Squire-based and two Chemist-based.

I am currently reliving Avatar The Last Airbender by bending everyone with Elemental/Counter Flood

I am currently hating Wiegraf at the first windmill. Sigh. It's just a big gambling match at this point because we (myself and the friend I'm doing it with) didn't power level ourselves. So, basically the strat is to kill Boco, then hope the high hell that we can invite some sort of meatshield, with our less than 30% odds, on the first or second turn. It's rough.

Posted by: Suunok 12th June 2013 17:53
That does sound pretty rough, MogMaster. On the plus side, when you do get past it, it'll feel that much sweeter, I should think.

You're making me jealous, GoldenPins. I kind of wish I'd gone with Geomancer instead of Oracle. =P I'm still trying to get my team ready for Dorter. While I'm not powerleveling, I am wanting to get at least one that knows Life Drain so that I have some ranged damage other than Delita as a Wizard (or should I make him a Time Mage?).

Since I'm using Geomancer, I'm trying to make this as challenging as possible. Lvl 10 at Goug, using Giant Axes on all of my characters, etc. I've had a couple of slips but no defeats yet (got lucky at Fort Zeakden by an INCH of Ramza's life).

uhh, sign me up as the mime of this story

I'm sad to announce that my run has to be restarted, as my PS3 has come down with a fatal case of yellow light of death. I'll still do an Oracle run first, and it's a bit of a setback. How's everyone else doing?

How's this going? Haven't heard anything in several months. I don't see myself having difficulty doing this except the fact I know I can. What's the incentive to draw out the battles this way? I already have patience. biggrin.gif

If by "several months" you actually mean "just under a year and six months"... XD

Oh dear, I'd forgotten about this challenge. At least I have an idea of when my PS3 died now, though. =P I did get a replacement, but because it wasn't one of the backwards compatible systems, I didn't think to try out FFT on it until recently. It works, and I should theoretically be able to get back into this. Would anyone still be interested?

In regards to incentive... Well, technically nothing, other than being able to say that you contributed to an effort to beat the game under such restrictions. If you want to really challenge (or simply frustrate) yourself, perhaps you could do the Calculator run - bearing in mind that since you're not allowed to use characters or abilities from other classes,, you won't actually be able to use math skills to cast spells. =P
