Final Fantasy VI

The PC version with the hated sprites, yeah...I just got Zona Seeker at the auction house, I think I did equipment for the Cave to the Sealed Gate and went in before a communique I received demanded my immediate attention. Got the Kaiser Knuckle x2 on a Genji Glove - Gigas Glove Sabin so that's one enemy down no matter how you cut it. See what I did there?

Breath of Fire

A thread by someone at a neighboring website got me interested in trying it again, but I used patch codes to give my characters tons of EXP right away...I am not interested in grinding for the meager damage upgrades BoF sort of gives you, and the game is hard enough due to the absolute bonkers dungeon design.

I'm at Krypt, I just got Karn. I can't figure out how to get back to that floor where all the trap floors are around the chests.

Final Fantasy VII

PSX version because they screwed up the PC version's music in an important place to me that I won't spoil because I guess FF7 spoilers are sort of a thing again. Weird.

Just reached the Sector 5 Reactor I think. Train Minigame went well, I got all the stuffs.

Phantasy Star II

Just got the four keycards for the Dams. I think I got the crap beat out of me in the Yellow Dam and had to warp back to town and revive the three party members who were KO'd.

This game isn't for sore losers.

Sonic Mania

Nice little program, it is. Love the level designs, this is some crazy stuff. Bosses are cool too. Music is phenomenal. Animation is way more frames than a MD would ever have done, but Minimum Requirements are low. All around winner.

Ducktales (Disney Afternoon Collection)

I beat this yesterday. Got both hidden treasures, but didn't ever use Launchpad to fly back to Duckburg because yawn. Got both of the HP extends, too, natch.

Dracula Duck isn't as hard as I remember him being. smile.gif

Metroid

Beat this the other day too. Started out with password generator to give me 10 missiles and the morph ball, bombs, and long beam. Kind of a frustrating game. The enemy placement gets highly claustrophobic, especially once they start moving about 4x as fast as you can dodge. Taking hits is kind of a necessity, and therefore getting energy tanks a lot is important. You are going to get hit, basically. Didn't have much of a problem with the path to Kraid backtracking this time. I hate that column of shoot-and-they-temp-disappear blocks.

Castlevania

Beat this a couple of times the other day too...it keeps you right on your toes, for sure. This is a game that doesn't want to hear your complaining. You either have the goods or you don't. It is the Final Fantasy V of action games (or is Final Fantasy V the Castlevania of RPGs?)

Idk maybe Super Mario Bros. or something? That's like drinking a glass of water for me though.

So I still be 'playing' GTA V. I put playing in quotes because as I mentioned in my last post about the game, I've already effectively beaten the game part of the game. Now, I find myself spending hours at a time just marveling at the shear level of detail present in this game. Or at least I did.

Turns out the shelf life on just admiring the game's fidelity is about three months, but just when the uninstall option was looming overhead, a merciful angel of fate made me aware of a Las Santos Police Department First Response, or LSPDFR for short. It's a mod that lets you play as a cop and while it's buggy as hell - cars disappear from the game if you play it long enough - it's a blast and a half to play. You can pull people over, make arrests, call for backup during a chase - including air support and swat units - and call for prisoner transport or emergency response. It's robust as hell and there's a mods for the mod that go even further with a court system, searches... I've only had this thing running for a day and I can already tell this is gonna be a rabbit hole!

That seems like turning the game's premise on its head and also seems like an absolutely amazing idea.

In my replay of Final Fantasy II, I'm right before the final dungeons, and am grinding up spells. I've got a mind to grind Toad to 16 so I can get the Genji gear from the tile matching mini-game. We'll see if I have the patience to accomplish this.

I'm probably about halfway through my replay of FFX, and am enjoying it, though I still don't like Tidus.

Playing Final Fantasy Brave Exvius daily. I love this game. wub.gif I've had some good luck with rainbow pulls lately, but still lack a decent chainer, alas.

Finally, I got a 3DS for Christmas and treated myself to Theatrhythymn Curtain Call, so I've been playing the heck out of that the past few days.

I'm about 28 hours in myself at the moment - I pretty much have just been shrine hunting / exploring for the majority of that time though. Have defeated two of the divine beasts.. but those were pretty much just because I stumbled upon them in my travels.

Should get back on the main story line soon though.. have found 78 shrines so far.. not using a guide to help locate them so it has taken some time lol.

There's 78!? I've found about 8! I've spent most of my time getting apples out of trees and being chased by bees! tongue.gif

From the shrines especially, I'm getting some Portal and Shadow of the Colossus vibes, in LoZ's art style, of course.

Lol there are 120 total!

Highly doubt I will be able to find them out without outside help though!

While some are super obvious - there are some well hidden ones as well! I haven't played those other games so I'm not quite sure how closely related they are.

They're both great games, that you should definitely play. The parts that remind me of Shadow of the Colossus are the atmospheric walks between objectives, and the ancient voice overs at the beginning of shrines. The puzzle elements and the surprisingly modern-looking designs in the shrines remind me or Portal.

I don't know hair got up my ass to play the original games, but I remember I had a copy of the collector's edition I'd carried in my hard drives for damn near twenty years now and I'd never used one of those source code zdoom things for it before. I actually plowed through DoomII before I beat it and went back to da OG and it made me realize something. Other than the first few levels of episode one and the boss levels, all the maps that I remember from Doom are actually from Doom II.

Dead Simple, Tricks and Traps, Gotcha, Barrels o Fun, The Chasm...Doom II seemed to be id going full ham because there are almost no 'gimmick' levels like those in Doom. It's actually really interesting experiencing this kind of abstract level design after so many years of literalism in FPS. The same for Quake when I ran through that, but it was faaaaar too dreary for it to stick with me as much.

Switching between a few games at the moment:

Grand Theft Auto V (PS4) - Just completed the last heist and currently doing the certain Lester missions to increase my monies much much further.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (PC) - Actually more addicting than I thought it'd be. Just need to stop accidentally speeding, running red lights and bad reverse trailer parking. laugh.gif

Life is Strange: Before the Storm (PC) - Loved the first game, loving this one so far too, part way through episode 2 at the moment.

Football Manager 2016 (PC) - Had a game that started off in Brazil but struggled with second/third season syndrome so ended up sacked from two different clubs (Oeste and Sampaio Correa) after doing alright at first. Moved to Chile with Rangers de Talca though and actually did really well, winning the Chile Cup as a second tier team and getting into the continental competition. Spent 7 and a half years with them before I decided I wanted a change and moved to England with Brighton who had just got relegated from the premier league.

Got a second game going with Philidelphia Union who I had a game with on FM12. Only in my first season but it's definitely been up and down so far!

I rented the PS4 version of Stardew Valley from the library to see if I'd like it before I spend my meager resources on buying it. I'm about five hours into the game, and so far really enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of Animal Crossing: Wild World which I've also played, though there are differences of course. The biggest difference is that Animal Crossing occurs in real time, meaning if you don't log in for a few days you might find your town covered in weeds, yikes! Stardew Valley doesn't occur in real time, thankfully; when I quit playing for the day, it was still the same game day when I resumed play.

Also, in Animal Crossing you have a mortgage on your house that you must pay off, whereas in Stardew Valley you're deeded your house and farm. This results in a gentler experience in Stardew Valley.

The game is pretty open as to what you do in it. I've decided against fishing, as I can't get the hang of the minigame. I definitely enjoy mining, which doesn't surprise me because I was also a miner in Final Fantasy XI.

There's some moral decisions to be made in Stardew Valley. Will you become a member of Jojamart, the large chain store that wants to turn the old community center into a warehouse? Or will you restore the dilapidated community center to its former glory? You also run into a homeless man foraging in garbage cans - how do you react? I'm interested to see where else the game takes me. Looks like I'll be buying this one!

I finished Rise of the Tomb Raider's plot about a week and a half ago, and the main story-extending DLC last night. I'll probably spend a little more time collecting a few trophies, but I'm not planning to Platinum this one the way I did the previous; the trophies are just too arcane in some cases to be any fun.

All in all, it was a pretty quality sequel and I'm pretty excited about the announcement of the third.

I've got a number of games to think about picking up next. Final Fantasy X might still be in process, and I've also got a new FIFA and the second Deus Ex untouched among new acquisitions, too.

Mostly playing Dying Light (PS4), because I bought it over a year ago and got bummed that everything was felt so underpowered. After you hit Lv10-12 and can buy guns, the pendulum quickly swings the other way, haha.

Now if only I could find the fortitude to go through Tides of Numenara and Pillars of Eternity. Like the Musou games, I think "this will probably be fine," but then I get bored a few hours into 'em.

Some friends of mine are playing Final Fantasy Type-0 and blogging about it, so I decided to play it as well because it's fun to play things in common with others and then natter about it. That game is hard. I'm playing on the easiest setting and could NOT beat the first major boss. I tried about 15 times. Finally I resorted to a cheesy strategy I read about online: just run around with Ace and let the other two kill the boss. That worked. But I really fear I won't be able to handle the difficulty of this game, which makes me sad because I'm pretty interested in its story, due to having Type-0 units in FF Brave Exvius.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Started this one some years back before (probably) get'n distracted by some other game*. Didn't get very far that first time, so I plan on finishing it before moving on to something else.

* This happens to the best of 'em, honestly. In fact I was in the middle of a playthrough of Heroes of Might and Magic V (and Divinity: Original Sin 2 before that) when I switched to KotORII on a whim.

Lots and lots of Monster Hunter World. 90 hours played so far. Not quite done with the story mode just yet.

A little of Batman: The Enemy Within. I've finished two episodes. Two more episodes on deck. Fifth and final episode isn't out yet (which is why I'm taking my time).

Still more The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. About 20-25 hours in, and was having a very nice time before getting distracted by other things. I'll get back into it once my Monster Hunter obsession cools off a little.

I was playing the new Shadow of the Colossus remake...and loving it! It's the second game I've purchased for my PS4 and I don't regret it for a second. But then...Steam had a sale.

I don't know what prompted me to get Dark Souls III this time since it's been on sale plenty of times prior, but here we are. The first thing I notice about the game is how much stingier it is compared to DS1. The Undead Burg had a pile of easy to whallop mooks and one bad ass Black Knight that - if ya beat it - net ya a 4 digit sized soul reward and some late-game level gear right from the outset. There was also a dragon off'n whom you could cheese off a sword that could carry you at least into the mid-game.

Not DSIII. There's all sorts of enemies that could wreck your shit worse than anything the Black Knight did and they don't net you more than a couple hundred souls and there's certainly no early game-breaking weapons that I could fine lying around.

To be fair, this is my first souls game going in without doing any wiki-research. Still, I'd like to think I'm holding my own pretty okay.

I’m hanging out with Horizon Zero Dawn. Amazing graphics and story! In between my homework study and written assignments I try to defeat all machines.
I was impressed with leveling-up and one day wrote an essay on this topic for my college task smile.gif

Silverfury, I just finished Horizon Zero Dawn and it is amazing. Just amazing.

You can finish up sidequests at the end, so that's what I'm doing now.

So...Dark Souls 3.

Daddy likes!*

This area is a...conduit of sorts in this game. In one direction, this Black Knight who will kill you pretty much instantly, but is close enough to the bonfire than you can just...y'know...

user posted image

Until you've got his moveset so memorized, you can parry/rip into him with narry a furrowed brow...and he respawns! And in the other direction are two badasses who will slice you in twain if they see you...but if they don't, they spend that time ripping the local enemies in twain instead...and funneling the souls right into your coffer! After which, they've lost enough health that they can be easy pickins...and they're also close enough to the bonfire to practice parrying against! Between both paths, you can net up to something like 5k souls in one pass. In less than a half hour of running both ways, I can net up to 50k souls! That's spending money right thar son!

*that's not my screenshot, cause mine's too big to post here. I can link to it tho!

In my replay of Final Fantasy II, I'm right before the final dungeons, and am grinding up spells. I've got a mind to grind Toad to 16 so I can get the Genji gear from the tile matching mini-game. We'll see if I have the patience to accomplish this.

JTrigger's post about grinding in FFV got me in the mood to grind, so after a three month break I am back to grinding up Toad in FFII. Should hit level 7 today. I've been managing it by setting a timer for 20 minutes. I'm finding that the 20 minutes goes fast and I often reset the timer for another 20 minutes.

My other characters are also grinding up spells as well. Once I finish all this grinding the final dungeon should be easier than it normally is for me.

My brother in law loaned me Until Dawn for PS4 a couple weeks back, and I played it a couple nights. He tells me it gets better, but so far it seems like a Telltale game if you take out all of the humor and characters you don't hate. I might go back to it at some point because the overall horror tropes are at least a little appealing.

I'm currently back on the FF grind after finishing both Zelda and Super Mario Odessey on the Switch.

Currently playing FF9 and about half way through - debating whether to play more of the older FF games or skip straight ahead to FF15 that I bought the day it released on Steam.. but have not loaded up yet!

FF9 is one hell of a game I would say! I did play it a little bit when I was younger but don't believe I ever made it past disc 1 back then.

I acquired an iPhone and downloaded ALL the gacha games! Here's my IDs in case anybody wants to add me. Username is AltheaV in all the games:

Final Fantasy Record Keeper: cdqh
Fate/Go: 085,685,448
Final Fantasy Dissidia Opera Omnia: 836892806
Mobius Final Fantasy: 202b-1569-2d92
Kingdom Hearts Union X: 4046685

So far I am enjoying them all, though Mobius is giving me some issues. I've failed quests a few times. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. There are fire enemies in the area so I am using the mage job so I can Blizzard them to death, but I'm having a hard time surviving. Hmm.

Record Keeper is really cute! Though I have to laugh at myself: I was playing the FFV dungeons and kept saying, "Hey, that enemy doesn't appear in this area!" Proof that I've played FFV too many times?

Can't play games lately. Burned out.

Any suggestions would be welcome, and sleeping regularly seems to not help it

There are too many parallels between them all. I have whited out on them, you might say.
