A lot of times I run across good deals on games that people may have been interested in playing, and I imagine some other people see the same thing every once in awhile. It probably makes sense to have a topic open for that sort of thing. This only comes to mind because apparently Star Wars - The Knights of the Old Republic is on sale for $2.50 on STEAM right now, and that's a game I've been meaning to play for a very long time.

Posted by: FallingHeart 15th September 2010 20:15
Steam puts on the craziest deals, especially during the summer and holidays. I've bought at least 15 games on sale (especially in bundles) in the past year and have yet to touch a lot of them.

Posted by: Rangers51 15th September 2010 20:49
I'm happy to crosspost Kotaku's weekend deals if I can remember, they do a decent job of finding stuff.

Posted by: BlitzSage 15th September 2010 20:56
I need to think about using Steam eventually. There are so many games on there I've wanted to play, like Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition and Bioshock 2.

Posted by: vividesu 16th September 2010 12:19
Well I have never personally used STEAM, probably because there are no games there I want to play even.

I recently http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=a2k6c09lwaewqn3pu5v8mmor&page=1 about my buying some games and generally surveying prices at local stores in the nearby mall.

Summary: I picked up Scurge: Hive (DS version) for $3 and Fire Emblem: the Sacred Stones for $10. Found various other games, including Final Fantasy: the Lion War for $17, Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for $15, Mega Man X8 for $10, Metroid Zero Mission for $10, and two other Scurge: Hive copies for $5 (GBA) and $8 (DS). Other Final Fantasy games clocked in at $20, except for Crystal Chronicles which I just ignored.

Apparently Scurge: Hive goes for cheap now, and it's gonna be used since it's no longer in print. It's quite worth getting IMO. GBA version preferred.

Seems like generally demanded games still go for about $10. I also asked the GameStop guy how much Fire Emblem (VII) would cost used if it were available, and he quoted me $15.

And I was disappointed in the lack of ICO, Wild ARMs 4, and any of the Mega Man collections. Oh well. Not like I can actually use any of these carts.

Oh, and I think Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is still going for over $10, but I can't remember how much exactly.

That is a ludicrous price for a ludicrously goofy set of games.

Just over $10 for both Left 4 Dead games, and because they're not the Xbox versions, all DLC is free (and included with purchase and download). It's silly to not own them.

I just got bioshock 2 for like 10 bucks with a artbook included.

It was pretty cheap.

That's great, but in a thread about sharing good gaming deals with other gamers, don't you think you should either share how you got it so others can follow suit, or not post about it?

Posted by: Magitek_slayer 6th October 2010 22:32
Ok.

I went to the mall and saw several games on sale.

I live in spain btw.

There is this mall called:media market.

For my birthday got a gift certificate worth 50 euros so i looked around and saw bioshock 2 on sale.

I was going to get brutal legend instead, but i saw that it was dubbed and i hate dubbed games.

There was also another game but it was subtitled in spanish and i would rather it be in english,so i'm going to get it through amazon.co.uk.

FF13 i saw 2 versions:1 with even bigger and way more expensive:79 euros or something and this one worth 57 euros.

I am not sure exactly what is in the package of the expensive one,but since i have so little faith in final fantasy anymore it doesn't matter to me.

I played a demo on x box 360 of bioshock 2 so i know what i am getting into.

I also played brutal legends demo.

I bought the MGS Boxset of MGS1, MGS2: Substance, and MGS3: Substinence for 30$ back in 2008.

Getting each game for 10 bucks is a good deal and they have immense replay value.

Its probably still available. I've seen it in stores. I'm just saying I bought it back in 2008 when it first came out.

Considering PS2 game are still made, its likely in stores.

Steam is currently running a 66% off deal on Batman: Arkham Asylum (the GotY edition). It's down from $40 to $13.60, which is a great deal for a such a great game that's barely even a year old. If you have a PC that can run it , you should get it.

Posted by: laszlow 27th October 2010 21:10
Torchlight is 50% off today, since it's on its 1-year anniversary. If you haven't gotten this game yet, now you have even less of an excuse. It's on Steam, D2D, and a few other legal online vendors.

Steam is currently running a Halloween sale.

http://store.steampowered.com/sale/trickortreat

Good range of good deals in there. First and foremost, Team Fortress 2, with it's http://www.teamfortress.com/screamfortress/ event ongoing for 7/$10, but there are a whole host of deals as I say. Resident Evil 5 for 10/$15, Both (yes, both) Left 4 Dead games, 10/$15, Bioshock for 3.50/$5...

Take a look see. Good chance something will be calling for your dollars there. And if not this time, keep an eye out: This time of year, Steam often have sales in the run up to Christmas.

Posted by: Rangers51 29th October 2010 15:44
That TF2 deal is pretty good, but in my opinion I'd still be tempted to wait for the next time Orange Box goes on sale. $10 isn't bad for TF2 if you really want to play it, but even without a sale, Orange Box is $30, and that comes with even more of the best FPS games ever made.

I found two copies of Shadow of the Colossus for $10 each at the local KMart.

Tempted to pick up DMC4 for 7. A lot of the other games on Steam's Halloween sale I already have or aren't interested in. I SHOULD get the Goaty version of PvZ, though.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 1st November 2010 00:54
@ fbm: Oh, I didn't buy them.

I meant that I presume that SotC is in bargain bins, and people might be able to find it for $10. I'd expect other KMarts to price it similarly, for example.

Though I personally don't have much idea how much it usually costs. All I know is that it's an often-praised console game, so I imagine back when it was new it was probably about $40-$50.

Unfortunately, I've never found ICO in a bargain bin, but i've heard that one's rather rare...

The GBA version of ToP is awful. I've beaten three of the four versions of ToP, and the GBA port must be avoided at all costs. If you want to play it either use the DeJap patch on a S.Famicom rom or Absolute Zero's patch on the Japanese PS1 version.

Yeah, about that...

I already bought the GBA version. I figured I could just give the characters their real names if the game let me rename them. That and I didn't feel right downloading it illegally.

Besides, Tales of Symphonia had a pretty terrible translation, so I think I can manage.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 1st November 2010 03:07
Re ToP: It's also that the sound quality is off, compared to the other two versions.

Don't worry about "not feeling right" if the publisher has had multiple chances of releasing it in your region, and didn't get it right any of those times. And you own one version of the game anyway.

ToP GBA isn't bad because of the bad translation, it's bad because it's ugly, buggy, slow, and just... incredibly weak compared to the other ports of the game.

There's a series of Thanksgiving deals on steam for those of us who will be hiding indoors during the entire Black Friday event. New deals will be hosted every day through the 29th.

Yesterday's deals included packs for Bordlerlands, the original Deus Ex and Half-Life 2. Now, to continue trying to figure out if my laptop can handle Borderlands.

Today's set of deals include a Left 4 Dead 2 bundle, Batman Arkham Asylum and a bunch of games I haven't heard of. If you were interested in Deus Ex or Borderlands, there are still sales on each of these games by themselves.

Posted by: FallingHeart 25th November 2010 21:40
Yeah, steam sales are getting crazy. Today they have a bundle of indie games marked off 92% from $60 to $5. It has Gish, And Yet it Moves, Jolly Rover, and Recettear. I think some people on this board would really be a fan of Reccettear, it's part economic sim and part RPG but all done in this really saturated anime style, it's really fun. On top of those I also got Chime and Super Meat Boy for PC, all rung in under twenty dollars. God I love steam.

Posted by: footbigmike 27th November 2010 13:53
I bought a six-pack of Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal for funsies. If anyone wants a copy, PM me. Also, I fully recommend the Indie Clever Pack being sold for 4 right now. It contains VVVVVV, which is worth it alone, but also World of Goo? I would so buy it if I didn't already have those games.

Posted by: FallingHeart 5th December 2010 10:16
Games for windows live is going off the damn wall right now! Yesterday they had shadowrun (the new one) for sale for 99 cents, a few days before they had Age of Empires III for 9 cents. As of this writing they have Viva Pinata up for 99 cents, and it looks like there are even more crazy deals in the forecast.

75% off now on Steam, maybe D2D I haven't checked. I just bought it for 3.74. That's about $5 I think. I've played TL a few times already but haven't fully got into it. After a bit of play yesterday I really like it. I'm level 11 just trying all the stuff out. This is such a good buy.

Steam's weekend deal this weekend, at least in the States, is a bundle of both the Penny Arcade games for $3. I dunno, maybe it's passe to still like PA, but I do, and for three bucks I'm sure I can at least get a chuckle or two out of the games, if I ever get around to actually playing them.

Posted by: Cefca 28th January 2011 19:11
Also on offer in the UK (2.25 for the two episodes).

I've played the first part on the 360, good game but didn't really feel like paying 1200(?) points for the second part, it didn't seem a big enough game.

Also on the UK Steam, The Sims 3 Ultimate Bundle is 50% off. You get The Sims 3, Fast Lane Stuff, High-End Loft Stuff, Late Night, World Adventures and Ambitions for 57.47 until the 3rd of Feb.

Free to play from now on actually. Speaking of Steam, they just started a big 'ol summer sale that currently includes among other things, Oblivion for under $10.

Hydrophobia: Prophecy was just on sale for the past three days or so at 75% off, or US$3. A friend tells me it was GBP2.25 in the UK.

It's no longer on sale at that much, but it's still at 66% off right now.

Please pardon my double-post, but speaking of Steam, they're now putting a bunch of stuff on sale every day from today 'til July 10th. They're calling it "The Steam Summer Camp Sale".

Today's deals include:
* The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at $6.80
* Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale at $5 - that's 75% off base price! Even the little girl has 500 pix to spare... tongue.gif

I'm not that familiar with any of the other games but there's also Bit.Trip Runner for $2.50, Borderlands for $7.50, and Medal of Honor for $10.19, among games that I've heard a lot about. There are a total of 12 such deals and I presume each day's deals end at 1 PM eastern daylight time.

Other Deals: Portal 2 for $10.19 (or Portal Bundle for $11.89), Duke Nukem Forever $6.79, Dead Island $26.79.....just check it out! smile.gif

Have started playing the first two. Which then meant I spent too much of my budget and I missed getting Thief: Deadly Shadows. Oh well. I have too many games anyway.

Coincidentially, there's also a Humble Bundle sale going on right now. I picked up Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe and three other games that I wasn't paying attention to (Uplink, DEFCON, and Darwinia/Multiwinia), then I bought another bundle as a gift for a friend.

FYI: Humble Bundle is a sale arrangement wherein indie games are sold in bundles to you for whatever price you choose to pay--you can pay as much or as little as you want. Though they frequently have "beat the average" bonus games, in this case Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe. Check it out here: http://www.humblebundle.com/

Edit: There's another week left on this Humble Bundle, and they've added Dungeons of Dredmor as an additional "beat the average" bonus, and the average is curently $3.73 (which is less than the average was when I bought two bundles!).

Apparently, you can get all of those games redeemed through Steam as well. Though I'm having a bit of trouble since I bought and used the activation code before they added Dungeons of Dredmor.

Edit
I can now see Dungeons of Dredmor in my list of Steam games.

Edit
And just like that, the average has now shot up to $3.89. I have no idea. That said, $3.90 for just Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe is worth it, considering that the most discounted I've seen them on Steam is $4.99 and $5 respectively, so getting both for $5 is already pretty nice.

And right after I buy Terraria on Steam for $4.99, it's now selling for $2.50. Until 1 PM Eastern.

humblebundle.com now has an official Humble Indy Bundle "4." (There have probably more like 7 or 8 but who's counting?) Hate to make two posts in a row about it, particularly seeing as I've been inactive otherwise lately but I thought it'd be of particular interest seeing as how at least Glenn's interested and they have Cave Story+ (basically what the wiiware version is called on Steam) as bonus content for donating above average.

I know you guys loove Cave Story and although the original version might still be free, Squaresoft seems to think you might like paying for a rehashed version of a game you might already have if there's added bonus content to be had. Hey, it may sound crazy but who am I to question a major publisher's well funded marketing department, as mistaken as they might sometimes seem? tongue.gif

Besides, I've also heard reaaally good things about Super Meatboy (although I'm sure you have too) and Jamestown as well.

Now if they'd only have one with Bastion...

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 15th December 2011 07:45
I just got Humble Introversion Bundle, and that was because I wanted both Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe. The current bundle, unfortunately, does not interest me much. FYI, the current Humble Indie Bundle 4 is: Jamestown, Bit.Trip Runner, Super Meat Boy, Shank, NightSky HD, Gratuitous Space Battles, and Cave Story +, with Child's Play and the American Red Cross for the charities. I'm currently only interested in Cave Story + and I'm not dying to have it either.

That, and I'd really prefer the option to donate to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, rather than Child's Play.

Indie Royale is offering The Blackwell Trilogy: remastered, Eets, The Oil Blue, and Dino D-Day. The Oil Blue seems interesting, but not enough to make me get the package.

That said, Good Old Games is offering a bunch of discounted stuff. I might pick up Septerra Core for $2.99 (I've heard various good or interesting things about that game), and maybe one of the first two Fallout games for $2.99 as well.

If you like 90s PC games, GOG.com is having a monster of a sale that lasts until January. Classics like Baldur's Gate II, Myst, Planescape: Torment, Total Annihilation, and Heroes of Might & Magic 3 are all $3 to $5 each. I'm probably going to spend at least $20 - these are some fantastic deals that you can't even find on Steam.

Besides, I've also heard reaaally good things about Super Meatboy (although I'm sure you have too) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csFnodKY0co" series, but with really fun graphics, a storyline, and great gameplay.
Bit.Trip Runner: Also pretty fun. It's a auto-scrolling sidescroller rhythm game of sorts. It can get difficult near the end but even the first several worlds are enough.
Super Meat Boy: One of my favorite Steam games of all time. It's incredibly difficult but built in a way that - at least for me - it wasn't frustrating at all. The controls are really, really good and the soundtrack is top-notch.
Shank: Haven't played yet, but am excited to try it.
NightSky: Very different. At least according to the menu, I appear to be about halfway through, and am enjoying it. It's kind of a side-scrolling puzzle game.

All in all, I've tried five of them, whether through the bundle or having owned them before, and think this is a smashing deal. And they provide an average amount given so you don't have to feel guilty if you can only give a few bucks. Insane deal.

Steam Holiday Sale has begun! Crazy-good prices on a lot of your favorites. You can get a good list of the current highlights at this Reddit post. Personal highlights include Portal 2 for $7.49 and Just Cause 2 for $4.99.

And today on Steam:

Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale is $4.99.

And its predecessor, Chantelise: a Tale of Two Sisters, is $2.49. Both are 75% off base price ($19.99 and $9.99 respectively).

The entire Half-Life series is 75% off. The original HL, HL2, and Team Fortress Classic are all $2.49. Every expansion to HL and HL2 is between $1.29 and $1.99. These are kind of a big deal.

Oh, I'm just posting the ones for games I like; I didn't even check out the others.

That said, I just now also noticed that Portal is going for $4.99; I've been meaning to check it out.

Okay, fine, I'll post all of today's Steam deals.

Some sales from yesterday are still active for another three and a half hours, until 5 PM eastern:
Dungeons of Dredmor, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Half-Life 2, Costume Quest, Lego Batman, Tropico 4, Chantelise, Duke Nukem Forever, The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, The Witcher, Recettear, Theater of War 3: Korea, and Red Orchestra 2.

Today's daily deals are on: Payday, Jurassic Park, Grotesque, Swords and Soldiers, Mount and Blade, Defense Grid, F1, Batman Arkham City, Stalker, Neverwinter Nights, Monday Night Combat, and Sherlock Holmes.

Neverwinter Nights, huh. I just bought something else with my five bucks. It was a gift for a friend. Sorry about that.

Posted by: Rangers51 15th January 2012 19:14
A PC download of Alice: Madness Returns is $7.49 on Amazon today only. I happened to have a $5 credit from buying Deus Ex on a similar deal on Christmas Eve, so I was able to just get it for $2.49. I know there are a couple other Alice fans on the forums, but the deal is just today.

Edit
Forgot it was an EA game. Can't activate it on Steam, sadly. Oh, well, it's a game I want to play for $2.50. I'll live.

Posted by: Rangers51 21st February 2012 16:43
AmaCoN today has Xbox Live online codes (the ones you get instantly and enter through the console) for $36/year. I think the deal's today only, and that's $24 off retail.

This may not be a gaming deal per se, but as it has gaming implications (or more), I thought I'd mention this here.

Amazon is giving away $10 Gift Cards for $5, today only. Limit of one per household/computer, but now you have no excuse not to start AmaCoNning!

Happy shopping.

Yep, just got confirmation, I was able to get the code.

Well, I missed that. Oh well.

However, there is this.

The developers of Faerie Solitaire have been giving out free keys left and right (first on Reddit, and now on SteamGifts) in anticipation of the release of Faerie Solitaire 2. Here comes 25,000 of them.

You can join the steamgifts site if you have a Steam account. You start with some basic number of points, which you can spend to enter giveaways, which are offered by other Steam users and raffled out by the site. As other people post giveaways you get more points. There are a few rules, though, most importantly that you should only enter for stuff you want because you'll be required to activate it.

This giveaway will be active for another 6 days or so.

For a few more hours all the Deus Ex games and the Fallout collection (1,2 and Tactics) are on sale on Steam. Great opportunity to grab the original DE and Human Revolution if you don't have them already.

Posted by: Rangers51 2nd April 2012 16:57
Best Buy is doing Final Fantasy XIII-2 for $29.99 this week. I just went on my lunch hour to go grab a copy, since it's still full-price normally; it appears that the sale even includes the version that contains the pre-order bonus novella, if the store still has them in stock (mine did).

I won't get around to playing it for a while, but it seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 8th April 2012 16:32
I completely forgot about this thread when Fallout 1 was available for free (just for two days I think). It was like, just this past day or two. Sorry about that...

Well, anyway, currently there are two indie bundles active, http://www.indiegala.com/.

Indie Royale is various indie games offered via Desura (which sponsors IR) and often also DRM-free and on Steam. Indie Gala is usually several indie games on Steam along with other media--the current Indie Gala features music and an indie comic series too.

There's also some "Indie Face Kick" bundle, as well as an "Indie Fort" bundle on GamersGate, and maybe a few others. I haven't really kept up with this; there are too many bundles going around so I stick with the ones I know well--Humble Bundle, Indie Gala, and Indie Royale.

Also, IIRC the developers of Lucid have been giving away free Steam keys on Reddit. As such, if you're not a Reddit user but are a Steam user, you can go onto SteamGifts.com and enter the many Lucid raffles. There are also a bunch of Faerie Solitaire raffles from when the FS devs were giving out free FS Steam keys on Reddit, too.

Offer ends April 30th 2012.

I've played Faerie Solitaire, and while it's kinda nice, it's definitely not my favorite thing ever, and it's something I might pay a dollar or two for (given current prices of other games). I'm not ready to invest in everything by this company ever, even if it is just $27.

Back on topic though...

This weekend, GOG has had Interplay games on sale, 50% of all titles (which basically means $2.99 apiece). These include the Fallout games (1, 2, and Tactics are available on GOG), the Descent games (1&2, 3+Expansion), Earthworm Jim (1&2, 3D), and more. I think this promotion lasts through the end of today, though I think GOG is Europe-based so expect it to end sometime in the evening--they don't give an actual timing on their website.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 29th May 2012 18:34
Now until June 1st, a bunch of indie developers are having a sale on their games.

http://www.becausewemay.com/

There are direct-download, iOS, Mac, Android, Steam, Desura, XBox store, and a few other distribution methods represented.

The prices aren't as epically low as bundle pricing, but the variety of games is pretty wide.

Posted by: Neal 1st June 2012 18:45
The latest Humble Bundle is a DAMN good deal. You can get Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Psychonauts, LIMBO, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP with a donation, and if it's more than $7.70 (right now) you'll get Bastion as well. Really an unbeatable deal especially if you only have one or zero of those games already.

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Also, Saints Row 3 is $17 this weekend only, and I had a superblast playing it. If you like GTA but thinks it takes itself a bit too seriously, it's for you.

* Dark Scavenger
* DEMISE Ascension
* Intrusion 2
* Fate Of The World DLC - upgrade and Tipping Point (I do NOT know whether this DLC is Steam-redeemable if you have FotW on Steam)
* Bastion - soundtrack (only)

Indie Royale is currently offering the June Bug Bundle, which features:
* Pixel Junk Eden (steam only)
* Escape Goat (debut on windows and desura)
* Noitu Love 2: Devolution

I guess someone has to mention that the Steam summer/mid-year sale is going on right now.

The two Ys games on Steam are on sale:
* Ys Origin - base price $19.99, current price $11.99
* Ys: the Oath of Felghana - base price $14.99, current price $5.09

As are Carpe Fulgur's offerings:
* Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale - base price $19.99, current price $9.99
* Chantelise: a Tale of Two Sisters - base price $9.99, current price $4.99
* Fortune Summers - base price $19.99, current price $9.99

Ys Origin has been discounted to $7.99 for just the next five hours.

Starcraft 2 is on sale for $20 at AmaCoN, which is a really great deal considering that Blizzard games rarely lose their value on the shelves. If you've been putting it off (especially with an expansion due in March) it's a good opportunity.

Duke Nukem 3D is free at Good Old Games until tomorrow 2:59 PM GMT (9:59 AM EST). It's DRM-free too.

Yes, that means "if you grab it now you'll have it for free for the rest of time".

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 15th December 2012 08:58
So it turns out that GOG.com actually is having their annual end-of-year sale.

This means that most titles are discounted by 50%. http://www.gog.com/catalogue which are 75% off ($3.74 each) at the moment. And as always, its offerings are all DRM-free (with very few exceptions).

As for myself, I just found out that they have http://www.gog.com/gamecard/duke_nukem_12, which is 50% off at $7.49. As I've mentioned elsewhere, it's an immense game with meticulously-designed details and a very rich soundtrack. Would have bought it at Playism but there isn't a 50% discount there.

Might also get Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, which is going for $8.99 (40%) off. I haven't seen this drop below that price even during the Thanksgiving sale on Steam.

I was considering getting LM but after trying it out on my friend's Wii its actually a bit intimidating
Thanks for posting, Glenn.

Edit: Thought you'd like to know that LM is on Steam Greenlight atm and anyone interested in the game should vote for it to be added to the Steam store. Any idea how long the GOG deal will last, Glenn? I want the game but not sure what platform to get it on, or may hold off and see if it appears on steam.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 15th December 2012 14:22
Steam is still PC platform, and if anything GOG's DRM-free version is better since it's not attached to a wrapper. That said, I've voted for La-Mulana on Greenlight already.

The GOG deal will probably last until shortly past the new year.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 15th December 2012 15:01

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 15th December 2012 17:14
Oh, sorry, I misread what you meant; I didn't know you were considering getting it on the Wii.

I'm getting it on PC but that's in part because I don't have a Wii.

I don't expect LM to come out on Steam this winter season/end-of-year sales event (since the new release's publicity will be dwarfed by other sales and since new releases usually only get a 10% discount and this wouldn't cut it during the big sale), but still, it could.

Sale items are on the GOG front page.

^ Another one of those deals puts La-Mulana, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and three other games into a bundle for $14.95. biggrin.gif

Speaking of La-Mulana, it's likely to be featured in the Groupees Build a Greenlight Bundle, as well. Along with its soundtrack (which GOG lacks, unexpectedly). I might just get both because it's a shut-up-and-take-my-money game and because the soundtrack is among the best game soundtracks I've heard.

@R51: Is that version supposed to work (and not crash) on PCs with Windows 7? Do you know what DRM it has, if any?

This is a great deal if you have any iOS device. I never really played any castle defense games before PvZ, but this one is so good that I've actually purchased it more than once. The sequel is in the works, too, so this is a great time to gear up for it (and is probably part of the reason why it's App of the Week).

Myself and Mr. Magus Harvey have thrown the term 'Metroidvania' around a bit recently.
Surely Castlevnia: Symphony of the Night needs no introduction, but let's just say it supplies the 'vania' part of that term. It's arguably the most loved title in the series, and I'm posting now to inform any EU gamers who're interested, that its finally on the PSN store for us now. It's not too expensive, either.

This probably counts as a GREAT gaming deal rather than a good one. You can get Bioshock Infinite for $28 at Game Deal Daily. It sends you a Steam key after you get it. I just bought it myself... I don't think we'll see a deal this good even in this summer's Steam sale.

The fine folks of Humble Bundle have a new deal for us in a collaboration with Double Fine. Any amount gets you Psychonauts, Stacking, and Costume Quest. Paying over the average (currently at $7.98) also gets you Brutal Legend. Paying over $35 adds a preorder for the upcoming title The Broken Age (in case you didn't support it on KickStarter). Paying $70 or over gets you all of that plus a Double Fine T-shirt. Hell, Psychonauts alone is worth the eight bucks.

My second-favorite game downloading service, GOG, has a big ol' Ubisoft sale today: mother****ing Black Dragons. 50% off for entire Heroes of Might & Magic series, recent Prince of Persia games (Sands of Time to PoP 2008), Far Cry 1 & 2, RayMan 1 and 2, etc. Most games are $3 or $5 USD.

What kind of time was this to bury a Ys I & II Chronicles flash sale?!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/223810/

and Ys: the Oath in Felghana: http://store.steampowered.com/app/207320/

That said, Ys Oath has gone down to $3.74 (-75%) before, and Ys Origin has gone down to $4.99 (-75% again) before too...so, your choice if you wanna wait on those. (I have observed how they never bring Elder Scrolls down to 50% "base discount" during sales anymore though.)

Pretty insane Groupee deal here: http://groupees.com/doujin. 14 doujin items, with a 15th and 16th added if they meet certain purchasing goals, which seem likely. Most of them are visual novels, but there are is a decent variety here, including a techno album and a fighting game (made by ex-SNK staff!). $1.50 minimum, which is basically nothing. I'd buy it for the fighter alone.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 17th August 2013 00:50
Oh yeah, I bought that early on. Sorry I haven't been around to pimp it! I've heard great things about Ether Vapor, and Croixleur (which I have) is a challenging hack-and-slash arena game. War of the Human Tanks (which I also have) is a strategy game with some real-time aspects -- I've heard someone describe it as a tactical game with a Final Fantasy ATB. Satazius is another shmup; Pester a bullet hell shmup. The rest are visual novels, so if you ever want to pick up several for cheap and try them out, this is a great time; in particular, I've heard good things about Dysfunctional Systems. (Also, Jisei/Kansei/Yousei is a series.)

There are six hours left on this if you haven't picked it up yet!

Also, you can get Mirror's Edge for a dollar from Humble Bundle, and Indie Gala is offering the eXceed series and Oniken (and some other games like Painkiller and Trainz Simulator) in a bundle.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/230700 bundle includes 100% Orange Juice, a mascot card/board game featuring characters from other doujin games by Orange_Juice (such as sora, SUGURI, and Flying Red Barrel), as well as DIVO, a game that's heavily inspired by the old game Nebulus (a.k.a. Tower Toppler, a.k.a. Castelian).

Some of you may've already heard but http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/57195699-78/woman-clinton-mart-wal.html.csp, including the awesome looking [mostly] golden https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/Bmyqu-T2wl01zZ8VvjfFFa5H4cG8siAU serves as any indicator, I bet the Link Between Worlds edition will spike up in price once it's sold out. As such, even if you don't want one, it might be worth considering as an investment, albeit keeping in mind that from early unboxing videos the game included is a cupon code for a download, rather than a physical version of the game (which may matter for game collectors and possibly mean that it could eventually expire). If worse comes to worse, you could possibly undersell M.S.R.P. at a later date, while still making a personal profit.

Take care and good luck my fellow CoNmen.

Steam's Autumn/Spring sale is now going on. They've got this nifty thing where the bottom of the screen is inverted, as if it were the other hemisphere. For a time, you could click the wishlist there and get a random person's wishlist, though unfortunately said random person isn't necessarily from the other hemisphere.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/261700/

Also, there's an Indie Royale out with several new games, the Debut 7 Bundle.

For people who think Target or Zelda sucks, those who might think the blinged out gold is a little gawdy or just missed the deal or are just looking for a second chance to get a discount on a 3DS 'cause they couldn't make it to the stores, you might wanna check out http://kotaku.com/3ds-xl-mario-and-luigi-limited-edition-for-180-1474719716 up to $50 per order. I'm not sure if any exclusions apply but I suppose this means you'll automatically get $10 worth for picking up the 3DS XL and an additional $10 just for adding a game.

Speaking of games, Best Buy also has Rayman Legends for Wii U at half off, if for some reason you don't already have Rayman Legends for your Wii U.

Granted, the coupon thing's probably just a ploy to get you to buy more stuff at best buy after the sales are over or maybe even spend more than you otherwise would without spending the discount codes at all but if you shop there frequently, it's worth considering.

Edit: Oh, it was already in the newspost. Oh well.

Okay I forgot some really interesting games that I'd like to post about but aren't Ys games. One of them surpasses the difficulty and intensity of an Ys game, though.

Among current flash sales are:

La-Mulana for $1.49
Duck Tales Remastered for $5.99

I guess this qualifies as a deal: the first episode in "A Wolf Among Us" series is free on XBL, for this week only I believe. Normally I'd scoff at episodic types of games, but after going through it this morning, I may have to change that opinion, 'cause it was awesome. It's taking characters from folklore and fables and setting them in this seedy reimagination of New York. Good point-and-clicky noir (with some QTEs even!) and the voice work is great.

Kinda short, but someone looking to kill a little time (or maybe fans of the comic it's based off) should have their appetite whetted. All episodes should be out by summer '14, so at least it's not being drawn out too much.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/207350/ for $3.74
Ys I & II Chronicles for $3.74

Let's end 2013 with a bang!

By the way, I've heard that it's the success of the Ys games that convinced Falcom to bring Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky's first and second chapters to the west.

New Humble Indie Bundle is pretty strong:

Pay What You Want
Guacamelee! Gold Edition
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
The Swapper

Pay Above the Average ($4.18 at time of this posting)
Everything in that first list, plus...
Antichamber
Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine

The deal lasts for another two weeks, and all games come with soundtracks as well. Hell, I'd pay the $4.19 just for Dust and its soundtrack.

I didn't discover until today that, at least in the US, Canada, and the UK, people who purchase Mariocrat 8 can get a free game through Club Nintendo. You can only choose one of four, but they're not a bad selection: New SMB Wii U, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, and Wii U Party.

Of course, anyone who had any intention of getting Mairo8 and actually has a Wii U has probably already purchased the game, but seems like if you were on the fence about getting a U this might be a great time to do it - if you buy the Mario8 bundle you still get the bonus game too.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the First Chapter
now available on PC, in English! Updated PC version contains widescreen support, PSP version features, retouched translation, and voicework (in battle only).

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-LOHTS/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-in-the-sky (DRM-free plus bonus artwork)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/251150.

(Windows only; game reportedly works fine in Wine but this is unconfirmed.)

A couple features -- most notably, the monster book -- will be patched in soon.

The Trails in the Sky trilogy could be described as the War and Peace of JRPGs -- very lengthy script, but a very well-regarded game for its narrative and attention to detail. Talking to every NPC is strongly recommended. Has a battle system that's vaguely similar to Lunar's.

The Second Chapter will be coming late 2014 or early 2015, and is currently being worked on by XSEED and Carpe Fulgur (of Recettear/Chantelise/Fortune Summoners fame).

Sales of the first two Chapters (they're more like whole books, honestly) will determine whether the Third gets localized.

Exactly. I've had tons invested, but the more I stayed on their terrible service, the more I saw the cracks. The whole stability of the service reminds me of Final Fantasy VI - looks okay from the outside, but looks like a potential-to-be-collapsed building from the inside. Unstable, the servers going down frequently like if that's what they were actually designed for, the login system failing half of the time... and then when the updates roll out, oh look, we have added Big Picture because, we don't know why. Oh look, we've got trading cards, because we can't be bothered to make the service actually better not lamer we guess?

And then finally, oh darn. The DRM. The DRM handed my butt over to me for a solid 5 months without internet (in which I couldn't get the internet back, mind you).

Compare with Humble Bundle's and GOG's DRM-free downloads. Once-downloaded, its yours to do whatever you wish both offline and online and without having to rely on a broken client gone gold. Its to the point I'd prefer the Android versions of games over their PCs... And these same games on consoles probably don't have DRM when boxed. In the end, I realized that all these games I bought treated you like a potential-to-be-pirate instead of an actual customer that can be trusted.

I became GOG-centered from after I got back my internet onwards. Sorry for the rant.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 28th November 2015 07:13
Sorry to interrupt your criticism of Steam's DRM, and I actually do prefer DRM-free over Steam DRM if I can, though for me personally, I can make do with Steam, in many cases.

Still, I will prefer to buy things from DRM-free, if all else is equal, and I'm sometimes even willing to pay a little extra for DRM-free.

I was considering picking up the Ys series bundle on GOG a little while ago during their autumn sale. Sorry I missed posting here for that. I picked up Kisima Inŋitchuŋa (a.k.a. Never Alone) on GOG during that sale, and I had a great time with it. Also got System Shock 2 along with it because it was a freebie for spending $5 (and Kisima Inŋitchuŋa was $5.89 I think). Other examples of games that are on Steam but I got on GOG because the price was right are Rogue Legacy (which I've been playing recently), FTL, Giana Sisters, and Retro City Rampage.

Overall, GOG has slightly less of a variety, though it's growing quickly. I know Freedom Planet got on it recently. Also GOG has a ton of older games, which is why I bought Secret Agent and Crystal Caves and Cosmo on it. And I didn't even know that Gex had a PC version until I found it on GOG! I think I spent more on GOG than on Steam during the summer sale, lol.

That said, the Steam Autumn Sale is going on right now and the following games are of interest to me and may be to y'all:

All the Ys games, -70%. That includes:
* Ys: the Oath in Felghana
* Ys Origin
* Ys I&II Chronicles
* Ys VI: the Ark of Napishtim
The Legend of Heroes series:
* Trails in the Sky (Trails FC) -50% off, $9.99
* Trails in the Sky SC -10% off for the first time, $26.99
Carpe Fulgur games:
* Recettear -75% off, $4.99
* Chantelise -75% off, $2.49
* Fortune Summoners -75% off, $4.99
* This Starry Midnight We Make -66% off, $3.39

And just because I really like this game, let's have a plug for it:
* Mutant Mudds Deluxe -75% off, $2.49

A variety of Japanese indie games are discounted; check out a list that I help to maintain, here: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/6858135/

Also, Momodora III is in the current Indie Gala Monday Bundle, and that's a nice little platformer that's quite well-polished. Unfortunately the rest of the bundle is kinda various VNs, at least one of which looks a bit smutty...

This is in no way an effort to spawn more conversation about DRM in this thread, but I just got an email that the Star Wars space combat sim series from the 90s just went on markdown at GOG. This is the first time I've seen them go on sale at all on GOG or Steam since they were re-released, and they're 40% off for one or all - not bad! I'd mainly been waiting for TIE Fighter, as I think it's the best of the lot, so I just got it for $6.

Notable deals include the Witcher 3 at half price, along with the rest of the Witcher series, and a whole Star Wars bundle on sale. I'm sure there's others too. Plus there are free games for those who spent $5 (Divine Divinity) and $50 (Blackguards), and a mystery game for $3 each.

You can download the PC version for free (!?) until the end of the month: boom. You have to sign up for EpicGames's online community and run it through their launcher, though.

The current https://www.humblebundle.com/ deal is very, VERY appealing to the arcade fighter fan in me. For the $10 tier you get 19 classic NEO-GEO games, including Garou: Mark of the Wolves (my favorite SNK game ever), 4 Metal Slug games, 3 King of Fighters games, and 3 Samurai Shodown games. TWINKLE STAR SPRITES! More are being added later. Only current major absences are Windjammers and The Last Blade 2.

Posted by: Pooka 9th December 2015 05:19
And only a few games in that bundle are Steam keys, a majority of them are DRM-free, seconded by Steam and DRM-free and only two are Steam exclusive. That' curbing the terribleness out of the games' life. Trust me, its the best bundle one can buy. I bought the low tier myself since I like KoF.

I'd recommend paying the $10 for the Neo Geo bundle at this point because Twinkle Star Sprites is a "beat the average game" and the average is less than a quarter away from $10. It plays kinda like a puzzle game's versus mode in that you set up chained reactions to destroy the opponent. However, instead of trying to clear the field of blocks, you're playing a shoot 'em up. The chain reaction is formed with the explosions of enemies on your side of the field. Now the game isn't without its flaws but that's understandable since it is renowned as the archetype for this sort of game and inspired at least several more like it, such as the Phantasmagoria entries in the Touhou series. Being able to easily play this at an affordable price is a great opportunity since it's otherwise a low supply and relatively high demand title, especially outside of the quarter sucking arcade.

Edit
I'm striking out that portion since I may have judged the game too harshly, as my initial impression may have been tainted by a somewhat bad implementation. Most of the games in this bundle have their playing speed tied to refresh rate, which should be 60 hertz for 60 F.P.S. My monitor was set to 85 hertz, which made it run considerably faster than it would have in the arcade. I'll have to judge it again later.

It looks like many other Squenix games are on sale as well, but the winter sale has just kicked off so the servers are, as typical, thrashed at the moment. Looks like at the very least, the numbered games other than XIV are on sale, as is Life is Strange.

Posted by: Pooka 22nd December 2015 20:12
I also noticed that the Final Fantasy titles on the Amazon Appstore got a 50% off, bumping their prices down to $8. Possible to be different on the Google Play Store, mind you.

On the Google Play Store, it seems that Minecraft: Story Mode is also available for a whopping 10 cents, but that's assuming you don't want episodes 2 and whatever is next. Among other deals too.

Oniken Longplay

I just found this game on steam...not sure where I heard about it but right now it's marked down from $5 to 50 cents.

Your comp ought to run it ok. Check 'er out! You got 50 cents right?

The deal goes till Jan 4th.

Forget about the above deal anyways. You should save up your money to get Duke Nukem's titles on GOG before the 31st, because after that they'll be no longer available for sale there, at least until the game is brought back...

Also, its your last chance to get Dragonsphere for free. This game stayed a freebie for a long time, but it'll turn to $6 that day. Will you catch up?

GOG is offering CONSORTIUM: The Master Edition for the price of $0.00. The deal is offer by the 13th.

Oceanhorn on thecurrent Humble Jumbo 6 Bundle on http://www.humblebundle.com Stylistically, it's closer to Zelda music than Final Fantasy music but if you ever wondered what it might be if those guys did work on The Legend of Zelda, this is probably as close as you can get..

Since it's a D.R.M. free game you can also pay as little as a penny for the download, which isn't much to lose even if you just consider it for the music, although if you want the steam code for it as well as the cheapest steam only games which accompany it in the bundle, you'll need to pay at least a buck. There are some Shadow Run games in there too if you like that series.

Black Friday's coming up and there are some sales already going - one I'll call out quickly here is for the now-discontinued Disney Infinity. If you wanted to get in on it before it's gone forever, or if you just want to scoop up some heavily discounted figures for the game you already have, check out Toys R Us.

If you're a rewards member, you can get starter kits for every system for $10, marked down from $65. You can get character packs of two figures also for $10, and you can get single figures buy one, get three free - or $15 for $60 worth of figures. I just snapped up a Star Wars starter pack for Wii U and four additional figures for my daughter for Christmas for a grand total of $25 shipped to my door.

Posted by: Rangers51 22nd November 2016 17:05
Final Fantasy Tactics for both iOS and Android are marked down currently to just $3.99, by far the lowest price ever for that game. If you don't have it, you now have absolutely no excuse.

Also, not a deal, but I hear that Atelier FIris is coming to Steam.

Always WotL for mobile. And with the original WotL slowdown bug fixed, so it's a ton more playable.

On the CoN Youtube channel, you can see a few episodes of a WotL stream that DP and I did for a month or so before we ran out of time if you're curious about that version still.

Gamestop's having an online buy two get one free deal on used "vintage games" until the 3rd. Given that the current market values are quite high, this is a good opportunity to save some cash on games you want to play, and resell on ebay when you've finished to earn a little extra cash. It seems like their prices seem to be the lowest to begin with, even when I don't factor in the discount so this is quite interesting. Their backlog is rather sizable, so you might want to restrict any searches you do to "in stock and shipping" during the next 24 hours.

Naturally, I've been placing multiple orders into multiples of three for games of the same price, so that I can get the most expensive games I can for free, because otherwise the cart manages things so that the cheapest game you have available is the free one. I never really liked this system because it's so arbitrary and inconvenient, but at least I don't have to wait in line and question the prices I should be getting for taking a load of games off hand like I might in a retail store.

I do not even have to leave the house since an order of $35 or more gets me free shipping. How convenient. I'm mostly ordering gameboy games right now and I'm considering ordering some as replacements for my S.N.E.S. versions, so I can resell them for a profit, although I probably won't due to sound differences, comparatively washed out colors and most importantly the smaller resolution (which probably means a smaller visible playing area compared to the originals). It is still tempting though.

Final Fantasy IV, V and Tactics Advanced for the Gameboy Advanced and to a lesser extent, Dragon Warrior III and Dragon Warrior Monsters I or II seem like particularly interesting purchases for members of our website, although there are other games that might be of more general interest too.

I've been a little put off on purchases such as these recently, since games have gotten so much more expensive from when I used to collect them, and the days when secondhand cartridges were in the bargain bins of video game stores. This makes it fiscally reasonable again for at least a short duration.

Also, I give commendations to Gamestop for selling these games again, even if it is only online. When did they start doing this? Hopefully this'll mark the beginning of a generalized downward pricing trend. I somehow doubt it, but their listing for Pocky and Rocky II is the lowest I've seen, even if it is still three digits in cost...

P.S. This may be childish, but they have Battletoads! Now I've seen just about everything there is to be seen!

Hmm, I probably should have included that. Unfortunately,l the sale was over by the time you asked, but it is one of the links to narrow results in their search bar. This should lead you to it. I wouldn't recommend buying discs from them, since they don't seem to include the boxes as shown by my first shipment but cartridges rarely ever come with the boxes anyway so those might still be worth looking at.

These aren't not the greatest deals in the world, but right now I think they're the ones that are probably most relevant to our community because they represent what's available for fans of the newest and oldest game in the Final Fantasy series.

If you a want Final Fantasy XV, now might be a good time to buy it since the http://amzn.to/2gXTPJ6 in "limited quantities" at the physical retailers, which is to say by the time you're reading this they'll probably be gone. It seems like the last available opportunity to get them before Christmas, so if any of you have the opportunity and want to give it as a gift this year without paying more than it's actually worth, you might want to check out Best Buy to see if any are left. It's relevant to us since this system does have the original Final Fantasy game that started it all among its selection of titles. You know, the one you folk think is so "borked". While enhanced versions of Final Fantasy have been released in the past, I think this might be the first time the N.E.S. version has been re-released for anybody curious about what the stock system or original aesthetic might be like.

Edit
I accidentally used markdown instead of BB code for the last link. Also, thanks to R51 for the new link.

I debated posting the XV sale in here instead of news, so now we've got it in both. biggrin.gif I'll edit your post to have the fancy short URL that the AmaCoN tool can't yet make, just to make it easier for folks.

The NES version of FF1 has had only one release in the West after the original in 1990, and that's for the Wii Virtual Console. The NES Classic version might end up being the more reasonable to get hands on nowadays! (Also, I should get that onto the FF1 homepage at some point...)

Calling all free game lovers! Gaming gem Mass Effect 2 is currently FREE right now on Origin!

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 6th January 2017 22:25
Can you claim it without downloading and running Origin itself?

Posted by: Tonepoet 22nd January 2017 18:11
Although it will probably decrease my odds of getting one myself, I just thought I would let you guys know that http://www.thinkgeek.com/nes-classic-sale/index.shtml instead. The price isn't nearly as good, as it's an expensive product where you need to bring your own cartridges, but it's a different sort of product than anything that has been released so far. It uses a field programmable gate array configured to behave exactly like the Ricoh chips Nintendo used, so for the most-part it should be just as good as playing on an actual N.E.S. I'll mention more about that later.

The reason for going through that bother, rather than modding an actual N.E.S. or running the N.E.S. signal through an upscaler, is mostly because the N.E.S. doesn't have easy access to the analog R.G.B. signal, requiring different and more exotic hardware like a Playchoice 10 P.P.U. or a custom made board to get a higher quality signal than Composite Broadcadst Video Signal. It comes out to be the same cost as accquring all of the requisite hardware to perform the mod alone, let alone any labor involved with the installation.

It also line triples the resolution from 240p to 720p almost instantly, so that's a plus. The main downsides are that there are no analog outputs, and the video signal output won't work with R.O.B. or the Lightgun but that only accounts for 20 of the licensed games. They're $15 off while they're on preorder due to manufacturing delays caused by the chinese new year, so now's as good a time as any to buy one. I've been meaning to post about this for a while now, but at such an insubstantial discount (less than 10%) it didn't really seem like a good enough deal to mention on its own.

Finally, there are two days left in the Overwhelmingly Positive bundle, and 9 days left in the best of 2016 bundle on humblebundle.com so if you haven't been keeping track of them recently, now's a seemingly good chance to get the best games available lately. The Games I'm most interested in in the overwhelmingly positive bundle are Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Epic Battle Fantasy 4, Day of the Tentacle Remastered and VA-11 Hall-A. Shantae and Epic Battle Fantasy are bottom tier games so I'll probably be grabbing those at least.

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 23rd January 2017 01:28
I haven't bought this bundle because Shantae isn't DRM-free (which it could be considering that it's on GOG) and I'm not really interested in any of the others (except possibly VA-11 Hall-A).

Posted by: Narratorway 14th May 2017 06:32
So apparently the licensing for the music used in Alan Wake had an expiration date, meaning the game will no longer be for sale anywhere in the near future. Least that's the reason I heard for why it's on http://store.steampowered.com/ right now for only $3.

Posted by: Rangers51 24th May 2017 16:30
The current Humble Bundle for games will get you Grim Fandango Remastered and The Stanley Parable if you go over the average (currently $5.50 at this writing!). That seems like a really good deal to me. Going over $10 will also get you Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Day of the Tentacle Remastered.

Square Enix and Gamestop are doing a deal for the next couple weeks, where if you buy a new-ish Final Fantasy game off the new-games rack, you can get a code for a free digital copy of Spirits Within, Advent Children, or Kingsglaive. The offer's good on Zodiac Age, XIV, XV, Type-0, and World of Final Fantasy. Not a bad deal if you were thinking of picking up Zodiac Age anyway, since that's a new release this week.

If anybody wants a Playstation 4, https://flash.newegg.com/Product/N82E16868110233?icid=WP_0_08232017, that's at least 40-$60 savings, which is about enough to buy one brand new boxed game of your choice for it. The sale's supposed to be going on going on for the next six days, but they might run out of stock early.

It seems like a good price if anybody is aching to have it now, but since the Playstation 4 has been out for a while now, do keep in mind that hardware has a tendency to become obsolete and depreciate in value.

That said I see that the FF games are at -50%. Somehow I don't think that they'll be going lower than that for the next few years...

Aside from FFXIV. That one has no discount mark. Does anyone know if that's a game where you pay to buy it and then pay a subscription on top of that?

Secret of Mana is also undiscounted, but that's another recent release of theirs.

And...does anyone have an opinion on Yosumin?

Humble Bundle has a Square Enix publisher's week this week, it looks like. Tons of games on there, some of them at pretty low prices. Setsuna's on there for $20, which seems pretty decent. Lost Sphear is $25. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is under $10 to buy the base game and the season pass together.

Unfortunately, I'm just about too late to report another https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/square-enix-week?hmb_source=humble_home&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=mosaic_section_1_layout_index_2_layout_type_threes_tile_index_2, which costs at least $10, comes with the P.C. version of Phantom Brave, which was originally one of Nippon Ichi Software's many time honored Playstation 2 Tactical R.P.Gs., which were about as defining for that console as Square-Enix turn based R.P.Gs. were for the S.N.E.S., so I'd definitely recommend picking it up, if not only for that, but there are five other games in it and at least two of them are of some mild interest. One of those two is a rwby game, and the other is Trick Towers which is like competitive jenga with tetronimos.

The other is the https://www.humblebundle.com/games/overwhelmingly-positive-2-bundle?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_5 if you want my detailed opinion regarding that. As such, all I'll say here is that it's a great game that's worth the full asking price, and it would certainly be a shame to miss the opportunity to get it now, at a discount, with its soundtrack and a few other great games alongside it.

If you're okay playing the game with a touchscreen, or have a bluetooth controller that you pair with your mobile, it is worth every penny at $4, especially if you've never played the WotL version. As great as the original is, the revised translation and added content make it worth playing again.

I have finished playing Final Fantasy XV (loved it! wub.gif ). My copy is the Day One Edition, which doesn't include the Royal Pack or the DLC. So I checked the PlayStation Store for the DLC, and it turns out that the Royal Edition of the game is on sale for $24.99! That's half off!

It's cheaper than buying all the DLC separately, so I went ahead and bought it. Thought I'd post here in case others haven't bought the game yet and want it.

The sale is good for about another week (I forget the end date, but it was in January) so you have some time to buy it.

I've played this, and recommend it. It's a procedurally generated metroidvania. Though the procedural generation part isn't as big of a deal as it sounds; it's basically just a metroidvania whose map changes every time you play a new adventure. Also has an endless mode where you "live off the land" and see how far you can get.

The PSN summer sale is on and after 4 years of waiting (bad financial situation/poor) I finally bought I am Setsuna. I'm near the endgame and this game is everything I ever wanted in a Chrono Trigger successor even if it's just in a spiritual sense.

If you haven't played, pick it up on the sale. It's more than worth it.

Final Fantasy XIV is half off through August 19th. Link to Square Enix store. It's half off through the PlayStation store as well.

Also, the free trial for the game now includes the first expansion, Heavensward.

As always: if you decide to give the game a try, join me in the Crystal data center! I've got two characters: Althea Valara on Coeurl and Eirian Ari on Brynhildr.

Genshin Impact is out and free on PS4. I'm having a blast with it so i recommend it. Microtransaction just speed up the game and customize characters, they are not necessary for game play.

https://www.fangamer.com/ which reduces the price of various items to $5 and the https://www.fangamer.com/collections/last-chancecollection requires that you only have copies of the game or the guidebook in your cart, and nothing else. On the flip side, selecting menu options to bundle stuff in the same collection together can earn you a decent discount. You get $4 of if you get both the guidebook and Stardew Valley Collector's Edition together. They also seem to have a schedule planned on their front game to add and discount stuff in the various collections. This collector's edition for the P.C. and Nintendo Switch looks like a much nicer product than the one that was sold

Shopping with Fangamer can be somewhat of a hassle since you have to plan your shopping with considerations such as those, but the items they offer are mostly unique. One example of special interest to us is the https://www.fangamer.com/products/blackjack-cards?_pos=2&_sid=2d94b0ac0&_ss=r on the Blackjack.

Edit
I forgot about a couple of other Final Fantasy posters for a moment there: This parody of https://www.fangamer.com/products/blitz-comics

They have plushies, soundtracks (including some vinyl records with great cover art), clothing, accesories, artbooks and various other things. You might just be surprised at what you might find for your favorite games. They even have some https://www.fangamer.com/search?type=product&q=*piano*. Physical copies of games interest me for preservatory purposes I think I have explained in the past, and something especially interesting is that they offer physical P.C. versions of some games which would usually only be available through download, which is something of a rarity in the current day and age. The P.C. versions also tend to stay in stock longer, suggesting that console versions might be sold in more limited quantities.

If you look around it is very likely that you will find a few things that you are interested in buying, but there is really too much to choose from much less detail in full, so I think I shall leave it at that. If nothing else it is an interesting website to peruse, so happy browsing!

Edit
This post created a new page so I thought I'd mention that Glenn Magus Harvey mentioned a free giveaway for Teleglitch Die More Edition at G.O.G. in the last post, so nobody who wants to take advantage of the deal misses it just because they neglected to check the prior page when entering the topic.

So let's think about Amazon for a bit, so we can get the most bang for our buck when buying things from Amazon. Naturally the first thing is first: When shopping from Amazon, https://www.cavesofnarshe.com/amacon/ actually keeps tabs on the prices Amazon and its marketplace sellers have charged over the years. This is not only lets you know what the lowest price for a product was, but also allows you to know if a price-drop is likely, and how much you can stand to save by waiting.

Take a look at the price for https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B01MS6MO77?context=search is probably as good as the price is ever going to get, although $40 at https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gamestop-black-friday-2020-ad-best-deals/1100-6484200/ probably would not be such a terrible price to pay either if you miss out on that. Yes, I know, I just spoke of how buying from Amazon can support the website, but it's something to do when all other factors are equal, and the fact that the Amazon corporation does not even seem to offer Link's Awakening and the likely fact that the price would not be as good even if they did are two major points against shopping with Amazon in this case. I can only shill out for the website so much y'know (if you can even call it that when I have no pecuniary interest in doing it), and a $10 price difference actual availability from a reputable seller is perhaps too much to ignore.

So for the longest time I have been waiting for a price drop on the Turbografx-16 mini, because, like most of you I actually like 16 bit games and everything on the Turbografx would be new to me because I never had one. Seems like an excellent alternative to having to buy the original system and the games, and the time has finally come to actually buy it. https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07QD9GQ9J?context=search

The last thing I would like to mention about Amazon is that it is easy to forget just how many perks come from Prime membership. It is not all about shipping, or even streaming television and movie shows. Amazon offers discounts on groceries at whole foods which can pay for the Prime Membership itself if you would be buying there anyway (although Wholefoods' selection of groceries is usually pricier than what can be found at other grocery stores) and more relevantly you can also take advantage of https://gaming.amazon.com/intro?gclid=CjwKCAiAzNj9BRBDEiwAPsL0dyWpRyxRKpjdarpvhP9OCmeDdESWYOBnAbyGF7vsvod-qVFfycRcqBoCS7gQAvD_BwE&ref_=SM_EVE_GPS_G_US_E_D_PG_RSA1, which is about half M.S.R.P. It's not the lowest price ever, the console has its faults, and if given the choice I would rather have one of the Samurai Shodown editions since those have Twinkle Star Sprites. However, $45 isn't a bad price considering how expensive original Neo Geo games are.

Something else to keep in mind is that https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201910370, https://blackfriday.com/ads/black-friday/walmart black friday deals since they are supposed to generally represent the largest discounts of the year. I'll leave it up to you folk to decide which games or other things you might want to buy from there though. Yeah, I know, trying to beat the crowds is a pain in the neck, but sometimes you can take advantage of these deals online if you are quick enough.

Oh, but whatever you do, do not buy a new Audio Visual receiver this year. It might be tempting with all of the interesting home theater related stuff happening this year, but the current batch all make use of a bugged chip from Panasonic. It might not be until 2022 until that's fixed. It might be okay if you only plan to use it for Blu-rays and Playstation 5, but the new Xbox Series consoles and the Nvidia graphics cards are definitely affected. Given that 120hz and Variable Refresh Rate were the major selling points on the specification upgrade, that defeats the point of upgrading for the most-part.

Merry Commercialismas and don't forget to buy presents unless you want to be considered the social pariah amongst your group of friends and family, because let's face it, this holidays stopped being about celebrating the birth of Christ and started being about presents many moons ago. That is quite a saddening thought come to think of it. cry.gif

Question re 8Bitdo:

Some months ago, I finally acquired a gamepad for PC, specifically a couple XBox360 gamepads (one first-party, one third-party), and I found that the the d-pad on both seems to be way too "smooth", often mistaking Down for Down/Right or Down/Left if I hold Down just a little too far to either side, like barely shifting my finger.

Does the 8Bitdo have this problem? Or is its d-pad better designed?

I couldn't pass it up at that price so I snapped up a copy, picking it up tomorrow. December will be really busy, but I'm still hoping I'll find time to finish the game soon (I got up to chapter four with the library's copy).

I don't think this warrants a thread of its own, so I am posting it here.

FFXIV is doing a cross-promotion with Butterfinger candies. If you buy at least $5 worth of Butterfinger products and submit a picture of your receipt, you can get an exclusive mount in game.

Website: https://gamewithbutterfinger.com

Offer is open to US only, alas, so sorry Canadians. Butterfinger did say in a tweet that the codes are region-free so if you know someone with a US postal address, perhaps they can get the code for you.

I submitted my receipt yesterday and am impatiently waiting for my code. I hope it's account-wide! If not, I guess I will use it on my main character...

This is kind of a weird one, but if you like Gatcha Games or Disgaea, now is a good time to try out Disgaea R.P.G. Granted, the best time to join would have been when it launched, but ignoring the missed opportunities, there are quite a few freebies being offered right now.

It's basically the opposite of what F.F.T. did for Final fantasy. It takes the characters from a tactical R.P.G., and puts them into a more traditional command input only R.P.G. It uses a free to play, pay to win gatcha summoning type business model, which can be annoying in a variety of ways, but what is happening right now takes some of sting out of it for freeloaders like myself.

The Reflection event offers a special summoning banner to summon 10 free characters on each day until the 29th, which is in addition to the one free daily unit you normally get on the standard banner (the free summon is marked as 0 on the standard banner, with a quartz icon next to it), a battle where you can get free goodies that help advance game progression too.

The Reflection Platinum Banner seems to be one of the better summoning banners on which you could spend the quartz you earn in game, since it offers many special characters from prior platinum banners at higher rates that are not normally available from the standard summoning banner, and a couple of new characters as well. There are other banners you may want to save some quartz for, but 5 x10 summons would not be a bad way to spend the first 7,500 quartz you earn, if you can manage scrounge up that much before the 21st. Serial codes you can redeem in Menu > Other > Serial Code can greatly help with that.

https://youtu.be/JEgm9SoowV4

What is considered a day is based on the U.T.C. -4 time zone, so you might not see this until the second day of the Reflections event has passed, since I didn't post on the first, and there are only a few hours left in the second.

I might make a separate topic for the game later, since I have been playing it for nearly two months now, but I figured I'd post here first since taking advantage of these offers is somewhat time sensitive.

There is a bit of necessary advice before I bid adieu though. If it's your first time playing, you need to go through character selection before anything else. My advice is to try to reroll for Desco, Valvatorez or Laharl and pick all thieves as your support units, to help with drop rates. *Do not* Nether Enhance using any of your first five thieves: The effect of their main evilly stacks, so you get extra drop chance for each separate thief you have in the party, which is useful for farming reincarnation gems and Prism rangers. Aside from being high tier units, Desco is providing bonus points for the current Ms. Raspberyl event, but that is already halfway over, and Laharl and Valvatorez are providing bonus points for the next. You might want to pick up at least one copy Asuka Cranekick from the current event though, since generally speaking, the event provided unit from the last event also provides provides bonus points to the next event, and those bonus points can redeemed for various things, most notably including characters and Prism Hides used in Nether Enhancement.

To help inform your choice of starter Desco has high att., def. and offers a cheap board wipe. Laharl buffs everybody in the party and eventually gets bonus damage to his skills with enough Nether Enhancement, and with enough Nether Enhancement, Valvatorez heals himself quite a bit. If I recall correctly, you get Flonne to act as an initial healer from the beginning, and you can farm Prinnies and Power Ranger parodies called Prism Rangers from stages in the game. Prism blue from the boss of episode 1 is a particularly useful unit.

It is a smartphone game, but if you do not have a phone you can use https://www.bluestacks.com.

FWIW it's also $8 (or technically $7.99) on Humble Store (which sells Steam keys).

$7.99 seems to be the standard price for "FFXIII is on sale". Is There Any Deal says that the historical low was when it went to $4.80 on Squenix's own web store, but the price history suggests that it's probably never going back down that low again. (There was also one time it was apparently on sale on Newegg, for a little more than that but less than $7.99, but it also looks like an anomaly.)

Anyway, Humble Store also has a discount on Tokyo Dark (another Squenix-published thing, this time developed by Cherrymochi), for $4.49.

Two more giant itch bundles are active right now. Both are for charity, specifically abortion-related charities, and both are $10 minimum.

Also, there's a big sale on JRPGs, VNs, and various other Japanese or similar games going on at GOG.

(But not Squenix's JRPGs, because Squenix's Japanese side doesn't like making their games DRM-free for some reason. So it's just Squenix's western IPs.)

Humble Store is having a Capcom publisher sale right now: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/ca...publisher-sale/

Specifically to my interest, I've noticed that the Mega Man games -- the five Legacy Collections (classic 1-6, classic 7-10, X1-X4, X5-X8, and Zero 1-4 + ZX) and Mega Man 11 -- are discounted to 50% or deeper.

Everything is in the form of Steam keys. (Unfortunately, there's not yet an official DRM-free way to play these games on PC.)

GOG is having a big sale on Falcom games:

https://www.gog.com/en/promo/20220927_nihon_falcom_sale

This includes basically everything developed by Falcom that's on GOG -- yes, both the earlier XSEED-published games and the more recent NISA-published games. And even Gurumin (which is at a pretty good $2.99, at 70% off), which was published by Mastiff.

(The only exception is Tokyo Xanadu (and its DLCs), because for some reason its publisher, Aksys, isn't participating.)

This sale coincides with the long-awaited official English-language release of Trails from Zero, which is the first game in the second arc of Trails games. But it also includes the Ys games and other sundry stuff (e.g. Xanadu Next and the Zwei games).

For anyone not sure where to start with the Trails series: there are four major story arcs so far, in the following order:

* Games set in the Liberl Kingdom: Trails in the Sky (a.k.a. "FC"), Trails in the Sky SC, Trails in the Sky the 3rd
* Games set in Crossbell State: Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure (not yet officially released in English)
* Games set in the Erebonian Empire: Trails of Cold Steel and its three sequels (Cold Steel II, III, and IV), plus Trails into Reverie (not yet released)
* Games set in the Calvard Republic: Kuro no Kiseki ("Trails in the Dark") (not yet released in English) plus future games

It's highly recommended to play the first game in the arc before subsequent games in that arc.

But if you're not sure where to start with the series as a whole, just get the very first game, which has aged well with some updates and is also the cheapest option (at just ten bucks, when 50% off).
