i have noticed quite a few differences between the 2. like the job requirements being the same as the original psx japan version and the dialogue. not to mention the new chars. is there anything else i am missing here? any other new sidequests (excluding the new chars) or errands? that type of thing. differences in equipment?

I just bought a PSP and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions as a self-provided brithday present, I'm jus' waitin' for my Memory Stick.

As for the topic at hand, the opening sequence after the battle at Orbonne Monastery was re-done with enhanced graphics and voice-overs. As I was playing through the first two battles just to get a feel for it, the names of some of the jobs (Dark Knight=Fall Knight for Gaffgarion) and almost all of the abilities were re-named. I like the fact that Fire 1, Fire 2, Fire 3, and Fire 4 are now Fire, Fira, Firaga, and Firaja and so forth. They also re-named (or re-translated) some characters' names and spellings. Overall, I think it's an improvement just playing through it prior to saving Algus, though I think he might now be Arguth or something.

A disappointing change is the inability to steal the Genji equipment later on in the game. As I understand it, the equipment is still available, you just have to play the multiplayer mode to access it. Since multiplayer is Ad Hoc only, that kinda leaves some people out in the cold.

I was wondering if anybody else, who has played both, would like to elaborate on this. Even if you just know the major differences.

Though, more importantly than the differences, I'm curious to how good this game is comparatively speaking. My situation is this: I bought a PS Vita for a specific reason that didn't really pan out and now I have one. I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would (I swore Sony off after my PS3 slim died in record time) and I use it some at home and I definitely take it with for certain situations where it's proved to be a sanity saver.

Even if I do decided to emulate it on my PC, I might as well have it on mobile because I'm thinking it's only $10, either way. Since I'm using PSN to purchase, I can get either version. I'll preface this with I've played the PSX version before, finished it and did some but I don't think all of the challenge dungeon area. I really enjoyed it, only played it through that one time. I'd really prefer to play the PSP version because well, it's going to be a lot bigger. I can do turn based stuff on the smaller rendering of PSX games on the Vita, but I really appreciate it when it uses the whole screen.

So am I safe to go with WotL, or is radically worse than the PSX version, like what I've heard about Tactics Advance?

You really can't compare FFTA to FFT in the way you can WotL. FFTA was always intended to be a completely different game, whereas WotL is closer to being a director's cut of the original.

There are a couple more available special characters, pulled from other Ivalice Alliance games (as to not spoil them for you). There are more battles, some tied to the new characters, and some that are just inserted for plot devices. Different translations, animated and voice-acted cutscenes, and things like different job point levels have all been mentioned earlier in the thread.

The game is still brilliant. I don't know if the downloadable version you can get for Vita is patched as much as the mobile phone/tablet versions are, but if not, the one thing you'll notice is a pretty nasty framerate drop any time someone uses a technique that has a significant animation, like a magic spell. I've played all the way through on PSP without a slowdown fix and it didn't bother me enough to not like the game - in fact, if I could play it at 2x speed the way I can an emulated version on PC, it would probably never leave my side. The remake is absolutely worth it.

Good deal and glad to hear. This will be the version I'll be getting then.
