Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy V > Four Job Fiesta

Is anybody planning on participating in Four Job Fiesta this year? It's an annual FF5 celebration that runs through the entire summer. The basic premise is that you get one job per crystal that you're allowed to use, and once a job has been assigned to you, at least one of your characters must be in that job at all times (no freelancers once you have an assigned job).

I did four runs last summer and had an absolute blast. I'll use my first run as an example.

I was assigned the Knight job at the wind crystal, so at that point all of my characters were forced to be Knights. At the water crystal, I got Mystic Knight, so at least one char had to be in each job, with the remaining two my choice between those two. I think I mostly kept three in Knight at that point to work toward Two-Handed. At the fire crystal, I got Bard, so once I had access to that job, I had three forced classes and one that could be any of the three. Finally, I got Dragoon at the earth crystal, so I had my team set.

You can move between jobs as long as you're always fulfilling those basic rules - doesn't matter who is assigned to what job on the most basic gametype.

It's a lot of fun and it is run to benefit Childs Play charity, which is a great cause. This year I plan on streaming a run where I start the game and don't stop until I'm done. It could be a horrible disaster if I get a bad job combo, such as anything involving Geomancer. Assuming we can get it working I will be streaming through CoN's official twitch account!

Pre-registration starts on June 1, the actual event should start around June 15th or so.

I'm thinking strongly about it, especially since we just recorded the latest CoNcast talking about it (spoilers, dearie!). I'm not really sure I'll have an opportunity to really get through a run, since I have a lot coming up this summer, but I might well give it a shot.

You'd have the whole summer at least. And it's a pretty easy game to pick up for an hour at a time. When you realize that you only have to do a fraction of the third world, the game becomes much faster. When I get home, I can check on the time commitment of my four runs.

*blows the dust off this account*

I'm gonna be doing one this year as well! Last year's Fiesta was the first time I've ever sat down and tried to play through the game in earnest. Circumstances got in the way and I didn't finish it but I had a lot of fun! I'll probably be streaming my run, too for friends and anyone else interested.

Last year I felt like I lucked out when I got White Mage as my wind job. Real quick I realized just how slow and horrible it is having nothing but 4 White Mages. To keep myself from quitting altogether out of boredom I had to change my run to a Natural. I ended up with White Mage, Mystic Knight, Ninja, and Dancer. I didn;t get to mess with Dancer too much before I had to stop.

Currently I'm trying to decide if I should take the BERSERKER  RISK

EDIT:

I'm doing BERSERKERRISK with a 750 run, which will guarantee me a good job from the wind crystal to synergize with the inevitable Berserker (or 2. or ... 3). Very excited for it, it sounds like a fun combo.

Oh man you're right. That basically guarantees that you get a mage first, yeah?

I'm a tiny baby who is just doing a straight up random run. Everyone marvel at what a risk taker and cool sexhaver I am.

I'm registered! Just as a normal run, since I didn't find the help page until after I registered. I love Final Fantasy V, so this should be fun.

I'm having trouble deciding what version to play. I want maximum hurt for me and whoever's co-piloting the stream so I was looking at the PS1 version. How bad are the load times(i've heard they are unbelievably bad)?

Posted by: seraphimdreamer777 1st June 2015 04:39
A Facebook friend mentioned this.
I would love to try but I'm far behind on a lot of other games I own. That I need to play. sad.gif
Plus I'm normally not that great with completing special challenges within a season of a year.

Posted by: Malevolence 1st June 2015 17:58
^^^^I didn't finish my run last year either, so I'm finishing it now in anticipation of this year's run

So the SFC fan translation is some first-year Japanese student weeaboo garbage, the PS1 version loads forever, and the GBA version looks terrible on stream and has god-awful music sad.gif

The load times are terrible and the translation is laughably bad. All hail Princess Salsa!

I will be running on translated SFC as it's the one I'm most used to and enjoy the most.

Posted by: Malevolence 2nd June 2015 02:25
I finally settled on the GBA version, patched to replace all the music with that of the snes version. Also I found a filter that makes it look good on stream. The GBA version has a really nice localization, fwiw.

Four speedrunners are now running through with a fixed Fiesta party of Monk/Red Mage/Ranger/Dancer pinch.gif

Once they're all done, or once midnight eastern hits, then the Fiesta begins for the rest of us!

I got Thief. I'm kinda worried about going at it without a healer. I chose random so hopefully I'll still get a white mage.

Posted by: Neal 22nd June 2015 19:10
My first run will be White Mage / Berserker / Geomancer / Dancer. Not terrible. Will be very defensive until world 3. I'm very worried about dealing damage to the sealed guardians.

Edit: j/k, doom sickle will make them cake.

Posted by: Rangers51 22nd June 2015 19:36
I'm doing a normal run and got Knight to start. Should be a pretty easy way to get started assuming I'm not too lazy to get started.

I'm in...... alas, with White Mage as my wind job. This is gonna be rough.

I'm playing the SNES version on my Android device.

Honestly? It shouldnt be. The area directly after you get your Wind job is nothing but undead. As long as you can manage the water tower and the Garula fight, you're golden. They even give you a Flail in the ship graveyard.

My run though? Forgot to buy potions, game over'd on Siren. I have two choices: steal potions from the golems forever, or start over.

Are you grinding skeletons to get dagger drops? That'll help a lot in the process.

Posted by: Malevolence 23rd June 2015 21:10
Yeah everyone has a dagger. It's just that when she shifts into zombie form she takes almost no damage and hits like a truck. Time to grind, AH S'POSE.

EDIT: If I steal a potion and then run do I still keep the potion?

That's a good question! I have no idea. I would guess yes, but it's worth a save state test probably.

Posted by: samurai goroh 24th June 2015 19:26
Yes, you get the item the moment the steal attempt connects. Actually stealing and running away is a method to steal multiple Thief Gloves from Sekmet at the pyramid.

However, if you were to use the Return magic, you'll restart with the exact same inventory, which means no stolen item for you. But you can steal from the enemy again, which allows you to go for the rare steal if the enemy has a common one and you successfully stole the common one...

Posted by: Malevolence 24th June 2015 21:59
Neat! This gonna be very handy if I get shafted on my next job >_>

Posted by: Neal 26th June 2015 15:53
Rolled into world 2 with my team and honestly I had no idea that Geomancer was an actually feasible job. It's amazing for random encounters, and against some bosses (Archeoaevis) it has some great utility. It would suck if I didn't have another magic job to help boost it, but it's not a nightmare like I expected.

Not that anything could be a nightmare in a run with a white mage, but still!

Posted by: AltheaValara 26th June 2015 17:32
I got White Mage as my Wind crystal job. I've previously tried to do an all-White-Mage run, so I knew it was feasible in the early game, if a bit slow. I beat Karlabos at level 7 and Siren at level 8. Also didn't have a problem with Magissa and Forza, but I forgot to write down what level I was when I beat them.

I'm now grinding in the Wind Shrine for ABP. I was hoping to get Leather Shoes from the goblins for all my characters, which I did. Next I'll target Moldwynd in hopes of some elixirs. I did try out Bandersnatches for ABP grinding, but they were a bit difficult for my white mages - I lost Bartz and Lenna on the third battle. So I figured I'd get ABP faster by targeting squishy mobs.

I tweeted for my Water job, and got Red Mage. Hmm. That should help against Ifrit, which is where my White Mage run got stuck.

Posted by: Neal 26th June 2015 18:14
Yeah, at the very worst you can break rods with Red Mage, so if you're not averse to doing that, Ifrit will be a cinch.

Posted by: Rangers51 26th June 2015 20:49
I just streamed an hour and a half of me playing horribly on the CoN twitch account. Good times!

I made it to the save point in the Ship Graveyard amid cats puking and farting.

Posted by: Malevolence 27th June 2015 07:31
I got Monk as my second job. So with the absolute worst possible combination of jobs that doesn't include Berserker, I kept moving forward. Inside the fire ship I find that with these two jobs Liquid Flame is literally unbeatable.

It counters every physical attack (which is all I have) with an attack that hits the whole party for 1/4 to 1/3 of our health. The only healing items available are potions which cannot possibly keep us ahead of the damage.

Since I have no money for spending on the Job Fair I guess my run is over. Try again next year.

Ugh, that's the worst, mal. Maybe someone will have advice?

I just got my second job, and it's Mystic Knight. Certainly a doable run, since my first job was White Mage, though with low damage output it's going to make dungeons a bit of a drag.

Posted by: Malevolence 27th June 2015 14:49
I may as well have just gotten 4 berzerkers for all thr good these two classes do against this boss.

EDIT: Oh god I've been playing it in a skype call and I found the worst strategy. We now enter literally hour two of waiting for my monks to counterattack.

EDIT2: Welp. Got Berserker. How screwed am I?

Posted by: AltheaValara 27th June 2015 19:05
Play is going well for me. I finished my ABP grinding in the Wind Shrine, leaving with 16 elixirs -- nice! My white mages lost on their first try against Garula, so for the second try I stuck them in the back row and made sure to cast Protect, which helped a lot. We were at level 13 when we beat Garula.

I switched to three Red Mages and one White Mage after the water crystal. We had no problem beating Shiva at level 14. I was at level 16 when we beat Liquid Flame, and 17 for Iron Claw. I didn't get all of the chests in Karnak Castle; in retrospect I probably did have time to do so, but was uncertain how much time I'd need for Iron Claw.

Since I will be offline tomorrow, I went ahead and tweeted for both the Fire and Earth jobs. I got Geomancer and Chemist. I'm pretty pleased with that.

Posted by: Malevolence 27th June 2015 22:13
I've somehow managed to make it it as far as the Earth Job.

EDIT: I should credit this to DP and Neal who told me I could steal hi-potions easily in the ship graveyard. That turned out to be completely wrong because they don't know bins about FF5. So then i went into the Fire Ship where you can actually get Hi-Potions easily.

I got Bard. So that's 3 punchmen 2 punchmen, a knifeman, and a dude to play fight music for them. Good thing I've been brushing up on my piano skills

EDIT2: Against all odds, the Fiesta has been saved. In fact, I declare the Fiesta officially started.

Why? I managed to steal the Gaia Hammer.

Posted by: AltheaValara 29th June 2015 17:14
Congrats on getting the Gaia Hammer!

I've been really pleased with my job combo (White Mage, Red Mage, Geomancer and Chemist). Play continues to go well for me.

We took on Ifrit at level 17. I lost Bartz (a red mage) but got him back up before the battle ended. Byblos at level 17 was no problem, with my red mages casting Fira and using the Geomancer's !Gaia.

On my way to Jachol I died twice to Bio Soldiers, grr. Managed to make it there safely on the third try.

Level 18, took on Ramuh - easy. Blizarra'd and !Gaia'd him to death.

I was level 19 for the Sandworm (Bartz was still level 18). It was a long fight, and I had to use an Ether for Faris, my white mage, but the fight itself was pretty easy, just long.

Crayclaw, level 19 - super easy with my two red mages using Coral Swords.

Adamantoise, level 19 - ridiculously easy. Four Blizzaras and 2 !Gaia's and he was dead.

The Coral Swords were nice against the Flamethrowers, doing 500+ damage. Gaia also worked well, doing 600+ damage. So the Flamethrowers posed no problem for me.

I died to Soul Cannon on first try, probably because I didn't target the Launchers. Did so on the second try, which went easier. Thundara'd his butt, using 4 elixirs to replenish MP. I was level 19.

Archeoaevis - lost on first try, won on second try. !Gaia'd first form to death, then melee'd second form.

Purobolos - died to Self-Destruct on first try, won on second try. Geomancer (who has !White 6) and white mage kept them silenced, which red mage Blizarra'd.

Titan - won first try! Red mage melee'd him down while geomancer and white mage kept health up.

Manticore - same strategy as Titan. Level 21, no problem.

Looking forward to trying out Chemist with Galuf. Should be fun!

It turned into my lowest-level Fiesta ever (33/33/32/33), but that wasn't terribly difficult when I basically had two dedicated White Mages. Shell and Blink were requirements against NED, and Berserk/Shell were requirements for Shinryu. My Dancer with Chicken Knife and Rainbow Dress was doing about equal damage to my Berserker with !White 6 and Rune Axe - 50% sword dances is pretty fantastic. I wiped once to NED and zero times to any other rift bosses. White Mage is easy mode.

I tweeted out for my next run last night...and am starting with Blue Mage. cool.gif

My first time beating Final Fantasy 5! It's a damn fun game with a really deep class system. If someone had told me how deep the cross-classing gets instead of just telling me story stuff, I would've played this years ago.

Gonna go for Omega since apparently having a Bard means I get a free kill.Neal is a liar, so I'm just gonna start another run.

Posted by: AltheaValara 1st July 2015 18:35
Congrats on beating the game, Malevolence! The class system is why Final Fantasy V is one of my favorite games. I really have a lot of fun with it.

When last we left, I had just finished world 1. I changed Galuf to Chemist as soon as I had control of him. This posed some difficulty in Exdeath's castle, as I died to a four-pack of tarantulas. I made it safely to Gilgamesh on the second try, and used !Red Fira spells against him to win easily.

Gaia's Wind Slash was very powerful against enemies on the Big Bridge. The second battle with Gilgamesh was tough when we got to the second form; he went jump-crazy and I died on the first try. On the second try I put Protect up, and the Ancient Sword seemed to proc because it did the animation. Gilgamesh's melee hits were doing zero damage. He also didn't jump for joy the second try like he did on the first try, so I won the battle. I was level 22.

Tyrannosaur, level 23 - chemist tossed Hi-Potions at him, Geomancer Gaia'd, Red Mage cast Cura on him, and white mage healed party. No problem.

Abductor (2) went down in five hits. Heh.

Dragon Pod, level 24 - was easy thanks to Gaia wiping out the flowers each cast.

Golem fight - Chemist and Red Mage Fira'd the dragons. I wasn't sure if I had to heal Golem or not; I was paranoid, so my Geomancer and White Mage did so. Easy win.

Died on first try against Gilgamesh/Enkidu. Second try went better, but still died. Got him on the third try, when I focused on killing Gilgamesh first (I had been trying to kill Enkidu first).

Yesterday I spent the entire day on the first level of the barrier tower, farming Reflect Rings. It took ages. My red mage was in the ~500 ABP when we started, and was over 800 when we finished.

This morning I went up the tower. I was unlucky in that both Red Dragons came out as back attacks, and so I lost the first try against them. Won both on the second try, however.

Atomos. Oh, I hate Atomos. It's my most unfavorite boss in the game. I've tried three times, and have lost each time. I didn't have access to the walkthrough, though, so I forgot that you can sleep him. I'm going to try that next time.

'grats, Mal! And to think, you were ready to call it off tongue.gif

Meanwhile, I finally beat ArcheoAvis and have gotten my fourth job, meaning that my team looks like:
White Mage
MKnightShyamalan
Geoprancer
Chemist

I'm stuck on Shinryu. I feel I should be able to beat him with my team (Red Mage, White Mage, Geomancer with !White 6, and a Chemist) but I'm having no luck. I tried to set Darkness with a Dark Gas mix, but it wasn't sticking. I see the Walkthrough says to use Dark Sigh instead, so I'll give that a try next time.

It'll take some plinking, but you can Berserk him with your White Mage and then spam Blink (or whatever the White Magic for image is) and he'll never be able to hurt you. Setting Darkness on him will only make it easier so you won't have to reapply Image as well, and you can get some Chicken Knife hits in with your Red Mage. You can probably then drain him dry with Succubus Kiss but I'm not sure on that (when I've fought him with a white mage in my party I've always had a solid source of physical damage).

Posted by: AltheaValara 13th July 2015 20:59
Eleventh time's the charm, lol. I was able to set Darkness with Dark Sigh before he even got Tidal Wave off. I made sure to set Berserk as soon as I could (the mistake I made on my tenth try was waiting until my party was back on its feet - never got a chance to Berserk him before he killed us). I then basically Dragon Breath'd him to death. I did have a few deaths because I didn't think about setting Blink, but since everyone could raise, deaths weren't an issue.

edit: Neo Exdeath was no problem. It was a long fight, but I was never in any danger. I liked Gaia's Wind Slash a lot. I really think my Geomancer deserves MVP, what with the powerful Gaia and the nice Find Pits and Light Step abilities.

Tweeted for my second run and got Black Mage, Summoner, Beastmaster and Dragoon. Should be fun!

I finished my second run today! I was surprised when I got a slightly different ending than the ones I had gotten on my previous plays.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
I left Bartz dead for most of the Neo-Exdeath fight, and he didn't come back from the Void with the others. Lenna wrote the letter to Cid and Mid, not Krile. Bartz rejoins them at the Guardian Tree.

Neo Exdeath took me four tries, but wasn't too horrible. I actually had the most difficulty with the crystals in the Forest of Moore. It took me twelve tries. I was trying to target them individually, but kept dying to Aqua Breath. Finally I said screw it, changed the ability of my Beastmaster & Dragoon to Summon, and sicced Titan on the crystals. It got messy, but I won. Titan killed the Fire and Wind crystals, a Jump took care of the Water crystal, and melee/Jump took care of the Earth crystal. I was left with only Galuf, my Dragoon, standing, but I won!

I have a save state right before Omega. I did try Omega about five times, but I don't think I can win with this party setup. I did not try Shinryu.

Posted by: RavenLalonde 27th July 2015 05:19
So, I started this late. Got Blue Mage, which happens to be my leat favorite Wind job, but I think I can make it work. It's weird going not buying any spells, though....

Posted by: Malevolence 27th July 2015 15:54
Lemme tell you. Blue Mage in a Fiesta run is AMAZING. There are so many bosses susceptible to Lvl 5 Death and Death Claw. Plus, if you absolutely need spells, you can always break rods.

Posted by: RavenLalonde 29th July 2015 03:12
I can believe that; and being a hardcore grinder I'm sure that taking the time to find good Blue spells won't be an issue. It's really weird not having a White Mage, though; but fortunately I remembered to stock up on potions. It's also really weird not throwing Lightning at everything.

Hey folks! Sorry for necro'ing the thread, but i wanted to post something cool I've been working on tonight!

I figured "why should playing a Four Job Fiesta be restricted to just the summer?" and with that thought in mind mind I've created a few things

First up, I created a spreadsheet with all of the classes numbered, including special ruleset numbering! It lists the different rules as well in case you get confused!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IzuIHlYzZCM-ED1iwPuuG08mcRQwzdboLxfiibXLCds
http://www.twitter.com/team750fiesta
http://www.twitter.com/randomfiesta

BERSERKERRISK is also not available, but when I figure it out, you can bet it will be! For Classic and/or BERSERKERRISK runs, refer to the spreadsheet and roll your classes by hand!

Posted by: Neal 6th June 2016 16:16
Fiesta returns in a week! This year, 750 and no750 have been split out from a base class registration, so you can add it on to a different run type. For example, my first run will be a 750 (mostly magic-oriented classes) Chaos (totally randomized jobs) run, which I'm really looking forward to as a combination.

Posted by: AltheaValara 6th June 2016 17:50
I was wondering if it was that time of year again! Yay! I really enjoyed the Fiesta last year, and am looking forward to playing again.

Posted by: Malevolence 6th June 2016 18:29
Already pre-reg'd! Signed myself up for a 750 run with a BERSERKERRISK!

The new rule that interests me is Upgrade. Basically anytime you get a new class, you're forced into only that class. One you get Water, you can only use water. Then only Fire, until all you have is your Earth job.

Posted by: AltheaValara 7th June 2016 15:05
I signed up for two runs: a 750 run, and a regular run with BERSERKER RISK! Can't wait to get started.

Posted by: Cefca 8th June 2016 23:47
Never done this before but I've gone for a chaos run with Beserker risk.

Erm.. what are the 750 options about? It's been a while since I played.

The 750 and No750 runs break up the available jobs into, approximately, magic-using and non-magic-using classes. "750" refers to the price of an elemental rod, because 750 runs generally involve using a lot of rod-breaking to get through some parts of the game.

750: Black Mage, White Mage, Blue Mage, Time Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Bard, Geomancer, Dancer, Chemist
No750: Knight, Monk, Thief, Mystic Knight, Berserker, Ranger, Beastmaster, Ninja, Samurai, Lancer

In the past, they were their own run type, so if you did a 750 run, you'd get either Black, White, or Blue at the wind crystal. At the water crystal you'd get a Time Mage, Summoner, or Red Mage, at the fire crystal you'd get either a Bard or a Geomancer, and the earth crystal would give either a Dancer or Chemist. Now they're run modifiers, so you can have #random or #chaos runs that still restrict you to those jobs, which is super great.

Ahh! I got Thief for Galuf!

So what's the deal, when do the other crystals get unlocked?

edit: derp. it's right there on the homepage.

"Tweet #water, #fire and #earth to unlock your other jobs when you get those crystals!
Tweet #victory along with the picture of you beating the final boss to complete the challenge!"

Double derp: Looking at the other jobs listings on the site. It looks like the tiny Galuf thief picture I got was just to indicate thief,; it just happened to be galuf's sprite. Seems you can pick whichever character you want for allocated classes? That's better.

That site is kinda terrible.

TRIPLE DERP. Okay, everyone has to wind crystal until I unlock other jobs. And no, I didn't read the rest of this thread.. wacko.gif

I got Black Mage as my starting job for my 750 run, and Thief as my starting job for my regular run. I'm focusing on the 750 run first. Played far enough to get to the Water Crystal, where I got Red Mage. I'm now grinding ABP on bandersnatches. Full details of the first day are at my journal.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 14th June 2016 11:27
I had scoffed at the concept of grinding, not for me I said!

Then magissa & husbando kicked my ass something fierce. Managed to clutch it out, only to be brutalised by the boss in Walse Tower. Garula? something like that.

Grinded 2 more levels and managed to steal a mithril dagger for each of my thieves, then waged another attrition battle, with everyone in the back row chugging over 20 potions for the win.

..Now I've rolled a berserker.

Posted by: AltheaValara 15th June 2016 02:43
My final party for my 750 run is Black Mage, Red Mage, Geomancer, and Dancer. I really wasn't expecting Dancer -- I was hoping I'd get Chemist, so I could take on Shinryu. Now I'm not sure that will be possible, but I'll still try. I did a lot of grinding to master Red Mage, so three of my characters have Redx2, which has been a huge help. All that grinding gave me enough gil to buy 3 Angel Rings.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 16th June 2016 09:00
So Shinryu is a superboss? I must not have bothered with him when I played this in 2011, I'd probably remember if I had.

Hows everyone else doing? I see Neal's got a Berserker, glad I'm not the only one!

Oh wait. I just got my Fire(random) job.. It's another Berserker
ARGGGHH. You can just call me Guts from now on.

I was already using 3 Berserkers/1thief to get through the Fire powered ship anyway..

Posted by: Cefca 16th June 2016 09:23
I've got 2 Time Mages and a Berserker so far and I'm stuck at Sandworm. Gonna try levelling for a bit.

Posted by: Neal 16th June 2016 14:18
I've gotten to Neo-Exdeath, but he's basically just a level gate with my party. I have no way to lessen the damage he deals with Almagest, so I am forced to grind a bit to reach about level 45. Not the most fun thing in the world, considering I was giving him a shot with my whole party at 36, but it's not too hard to do it when my party's damage output is so ridiculous.

Black Mage with Dualcast - murders basically everything. She has the Magus Rod from the sealed castle, a Black Robe, and fluctuates between Gold Hairpin/Circlet and Hermes Sandals/Flame Ring. The only rationale behind Flame Rings on the whole party is it allows me to cast Firaga on my entire party for a full heal.

Red Mage with !Black 6 - murders most everything. She generally has a Fire Rod for boosted Firaga, a Black Robe, and also fluctuates between the items above.

Dancer with Equip Axes - Equip Axes brings over the inherent strength from Berserker (which is a LOT). Giving him the Chicken Knife, Ribbon, and Rainbow Dress means that he has a 50% chance of using Sword Dance when !Dancing, which is 9999 at all times. Front row means he dies a lot.

Berserker with !Black 6 - Bringing over Black 6 means that she gets the magic power of a Black Mage, which makes Rune Axe pretty ridiculous. Other than that it's just consistent damage that I can't control.

I should finish up this weekend if I have time. It's been a fun run and not very challenging.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 16th June 2016 14:45
God damn^ that's a nice party.

I'm having a hard time beating the 2nd boss in Ancient's Library with my thief/berserker party. He slows my dmg dealers and repeatedly casts protect on himself. I'm trying to hit him with mage mashers to stop him getting protect out but it's not reliable enough. This might be a level gate for me too.

I wish I could buy hi-potions at this point! my only source is stealing them off possessed books. I might have to go and grind elsewhere.

I'm very rusty on this game but I had a read up on mechanics; looks like I want to train thieves enough to get their agility increase, so they keep it as 'serkers.

Who'd have thought playing FF without magic could be so tough. While it may seem like a grind's ahead of me I like the problem solving aspect.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 17th June 2016 12:14
Actually no this is horrible now. Blyados or w/e is still a roadblock so I have to grind more.
He hits me with an attack that halves my level, and counters physical attacks with Drain - healing himself for more than I can hurt him. >=[

Posted by: Neal 20th June 2016 14:03
Yeah, I hear Thief/Zerk is a pretty bad roadblock for Byblos. I think it will require a fair bit of grinding. You should be able to steal Hi-Potions as a common steal from the snake-mouth floaty guys in the Fire Ship at least.

I finished my first run the other day - it wasn't too bad. I did have to grind to survive Almagest, but in the end I did just that:

user posted image

I'm onto my second run now (Chaos, no job restrictions) and got Samurai, Chemist, Black Mage, and Ninja. It has been an absolute cake walk, the only hard part was Archeoavis and once I finished that I've been able to fly.

Omega was not cake, but he is dead.

Posted by: AltheaValara 20th June 2016 17:28
I finished my first run yesterday! My final party was a Black Mage with the Magus Rod, a Dancer with the Chicken Knife and Redx2, a Red Mage with Redx2, and a Geomancer with Redx2. I had some problems with the Crystal fight in the Guardian Tree, which took a few tries to beat, but otherwise most of the game was easy mode.

I did try Shinryu once. I was able to set Berserk with the Power Staff, but she just hits too fast. I kept busy reviving my characters and never got a chance to damage her, and eventually she killed us all. I might try again, I still have the save. We'll see.

Neo Exdeath took four tries. What eventually worked was putting everyone in the back row, and having my black mage multi-target cast Fire3 while my Geomancer Wind Slashed, and my dancer and red mage healed.

I'm now on my second run. I played up to the Fire Crystal last night, and have a party of a Thief, a Berserker, and two Ninjas.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 21st June 2016 12:50
Congrats all.
Yup Neal, I had the same idea. All that thieving paid off for Byblos, Sandworm and the fortress turrets; hi potions for days.

I have my final team now.. Thief, Zerk, Zerk, Bard.
Ulp.
Actually I don't mind, I'm just glad I have any sort of spells to work with.

EDIT: That was shockingly easy. Byblos was the only roadblock. That's three down!

So, Omniscient.

I've got a Berserker, a Ninja, a Dragoon, and a Thief. As far as I know, I have no way of setting berserk on him. I tried the Magic Lamp but he casts return on that. I tried mage slashers to set silence, but they didn't want to proc.

Any suggestions, or am I screwed? Last year I had a similar party, and I actually ran out his mp. It took HOURS so I'd really like to not do that again. I suppose I could skip the last two tablets and go right to endgame, but I'm a completionist.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 28th June 2016 07:33
Can't help you there man. You seem to know this game in and out.
In my game I just beat Atomos.

Reckon I could beat endgame/ super bosses with Thief, Zerk, Zerk, Bard?

The number of times I have played this game is near the double-digits. Three times for last year's Fiesta, twice this year, two times maxing out all the jobs, one time playing with an all Red Mage party, and let's not forget my first time playing the game. So, at least nine times, if not more--I might have forgotten. So yeah, I know the game pretty well. It's one of my favorite games because of the job class system.

Congrats on beating Atomos! He can be really annoying.

You should be able to beat Neo Exdeath (the final boss) with your party, though it might take a few tries. Likely your thief and bard will be playing medics while your berserkers do the damage.

Since you have a bard, I'd give Omega a try. I've only done him with dual bards so I don't know if it's feasible with just one bard, but it's definitely worth a try. Make sure your bard has Hermes Sandals (or Winged Shoes, depending on which version of the game you're playing). That should help.

I don't see any way for you to beat Shinryu, alas. You don't have a way to berserk him, and you'd have a hard time keeping your party alive with only two characters who can toss phoenix downs.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 30th June 2016 20:14
Even at max level?

I'm having a very hard time against the Crystals in Forest of Moore atm. The Berserkers are damaging several of them badly enough that I'm getting pounded by Aqua Breath and Earth Shaker for over 500 damage each time.

It feels like this is another level gate for me.

Posted by: AltheaValara 1st July 2016 23:05
Do you have Death Sickles for your Berserkers? I was having trouble with the Crystals with my melee party, too, but then I got lucky and my Berserker killed two of them with the Death Sickle before they could spam magic on us.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 2nd July 2016 11:04
Alas, I don't. Looking it up now, so I need to farm Berserkers, Harvesters or steal from a Mykale.

Where are those enemies? online bestiaries aren't telling me.
Are any of them in Galuf's world?

Posted by: AltheaValara 2nd July 2016 14:34
Unfortunately, no. They're on Crescent Island in worlds 1 and 3. I recommend getting them when you get to world 3 as they are helpful against the gargoyles who guard the entrances to the shrines.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 5th July 2016 20:02
Okay cheers.

Damn man I had to grind to lvl 42 before beating that boss. In the end I equipped BerserFaris with an airknife so she'd heal the back crystal and so at least take that one's magic attacks out of the question.
When that was the only crystal left I knocked Faris out so I could finish the job.

Posted by: AltheaValara 6th July 2016 17:06
Congrats on beating the crystals! They're one of the hardest bosses in the game. I usually have problems beating them myself.

I still need to fight Neo Exdeath for my second run (Berserker, a Ninja, a Dragoon, and a Thief) but I went ahead and started a third run, LOL. It's a Chaos run, and so far I've got two Summoners and a Geomancer. I finished the Library of Ancients, and I'm thinking of doing some grinding to afford Angel Rings before I do the ancient ruins.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 10th July 2016 21:09
Oh man that's a lot of play of a single game!

Right. Rune axe, assassin's blade, fully upgraded chicken knife, Apollo's harp.
Now we getting somewhere. =]

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 11th July 2016 12:59
hm. Is there any point in me going and getting all the tablets? surely I could just collect stuff I need before the end, then head straight for it rather than collect a bunch of weapons I can't use.

Posted by: AltheaValara 11th July 2016 17:42
I'm a completionist, so I usually do collect all four tablets before going to endgame, even if I don't need any more weapons. But no, there's really no reason to get them. Nothing wrong with going right to endgame. I skipped Fork Tower & the last two tablets with my melee party as I couldn't figure out an easy way to beat Omniscient.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 12th July 2016 10:36
Haha I just looked up Omniscient's deal.. Yeah, Impossible with berserkers right?
ffff that

Aw man, so i can't get the submarine then

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 13th July 2016 11:10
Omniscient is down - Thief and Bard.

Reflect rings on both, chicken knife on thief.

Bard sang Mighty March then Hero's Rime.

I waited until Omniscient cast mute, bounced it back on himself. Snuck 3 hits in with the knife, doing nearly 4K each thanks to the bardsong.
Waited again, listening to a podcast...

Omniscient cast reflect on himself, and then haste on my thief haha.
when he muted himself again I went in for the kill and made it. He was still muted when he cast flare on death

Posted by: AltheaValara 13th July 2016 17:27
Awesome! Congrats! What version of the game are you playing? Last year I beat Omniscient by running out his MP. In the NINE HOURS (!!!) that took, I never once saw him cast Mute/Silence. This was on the GBA version, so I'm wondering if in that version he doesn't cast it.

I finished the Ancient Ruins on my Chaos run, and got Dancer as my last job. So I have two summoners, a geomancer, and a dancer. That should be okay, though I doubt I can do Omega/Shinryu with this party.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 13th July 2016 18:56
GBA version! NA I think.
what the hell.. did you just leave it running? you cant have been paying attention for a full 9..

even so, that sounds supremely unlucky..

Posted by: AltheaValara 13th July 2016 21:57

In Barrier Tower, where you fight Atomos. You can farm Reflect Rings from the Reflect Knights there. It can take a while to farm them, as they don't seem to drop that often, though I was lucky enough to get two almost back-to-back the other day. Two more to go. The rings are useful in the fight against the Crystals in the Forest of Moore, and also used in Omniscient's tower.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 29th July 2016 09:45
Well I just beat Omega with a lvl 58 party.

The berserkers did their lame damage - anywhere from 500- 3500, while I had Thief+!sing ability, and the bard just yelling out romeo's ballad.
Somehow I managed to time it well enough that Omega didn't fire a single shot. Getting the pre-emptive strike probably helped!

I tried to record it but had the window stretched so OBS didn't pick it up =[. I also forgot to take a screencap. You'll just have to believe me...
The recording would've been boring as all hell, anyway.

The Fiesta has come and gone once again. I was very motivated this year and ended up completing 10 runs, because I'm a crazy monster. And what did I do immediately after? Start a regular game of FF5. It's really weird to have the entirety of the game in front of you, rather than just a select bit of jobs.

Posted by: Blinge Odonata 14th September 2016 17:29
God damnit you played FFV ten times!?
Broaden them horizons, man.. play some Phantasy Star wink.gif

or dark souls like we briefly talked about in chat

There's a speedrun challenge going on for October. Sounds like fun! I have no way to videotape myself, though, so I won't be officially entering. I might give it a try anyway, as the job restrictions sound like fun. I really need to finish Final Fantasy XII first, though.

And I also need to finish this year's Fiesta runs. I have one at the final boss, so that shouldn't take too long to finish. I left my chaos run farming reflect rings, as I got bored with the farming. Two rings down, two to go.

It's really weird to have the entirety of the game in front of you, rather than just a select bit of jobs.

This is the thing that always kept me from playing FF5, personally. Having too much choice made me always default to 'safe" choices--White Mage/ Black Mage/ Knight/Thief usually--and I would get bored. Something about the game forcing me out of my comfort zone and making me experiment with classes I'd never touched before made it really fun. Also Hiding in the bushes from a wizard for 4 hours while I waited for him to run out of MP. That happened. And for some reason, to me, that's a plus.

I came in late to the registration, but I'm in world two with Samurai, Summoner, Samurai, Knight.

Chaos is cool.

Also, because I'm me, I like to play the Custom Classes version, so Samurai means X-Fight.

I've been updating my progress at my journal and also on Twitter. I need to write a post for the past few days, though. I'm in World 3 with a Popular run of White Mage, Bard, Mystic Knight and Dragoon. Beat Omniscient last night, though it took a few tries. With this team I should have no problem with Omega and Shinryu.

Registration for this year's Fiesta is now open! I plan on doing just one run this year, as I have a ton of knitting i need to get done by August. I registered a 750 run, as I've never done one before.

Anyone else planning on taking part this year?

I had White Mage for my Wind Crystal job and it wasn't too bad. I did grind in the Wind Shrine until level 11, when everyone had ~220 HP. I had no issues with Karlabos, and Siren was easy. Kept Magissa silenced and put Protect up, and again, no problems. I did lose Galuf and Faris on the Garula fight but I won on my first try.

The only issue I had was how SLOW it was to kill everything, so I feel your pain there.

I got Red Mage as my water job. I got lucky in the ship graveyard and got enough daggers to equip, so I'm enjoying my new fast killing. Trying to decide if I want to farm gil to stick up on rods or just forge ahead.

Posted by: Malevolence 19th June 2018 18:03
Yea, naw I'm not worried about it being difficult. It's just so sloooowwwwww. I went for random for exactly this reason. I knew deep down in my kokoroheart that I was going to get White Mage and I wanted a second shot at Black Mage or Thief. Knowing my luck i'll get 3x Zerkers

How's everyone's Fiesta going?

My final party ended up being White Mage, Red Mage, Bard and Dancer. I think I have a shot at the triple crown with this team! Things are going well, if slow. I spent the last week grinding in Castle Bal's basement so I could get Dualcast. Now I'm farming Reflect Rings in Barrier Tower...possibly my least favorite aspect of the game.

Posted by: Harlequin 8th July 2018 00:27
I'm doing a regular playthrough of FFV right now and the final dungeon is so freaking difficult I applaud anyone doing this sort of Fiesta. I don't know how you guys survive it lol

Posted by: AltheaValara 27th August 2018 22:41
Yeah, the final dungeons can be hard. I had to back out of the Void on my FIESTA run and level up some more. Bizarrely, I wasn't having trouble with the bosses, it was the regular mobs that were doing me in!

But I successfully finished my fiesta today, and am pleased to say that I got the triple crown! Omega took a few tries. I had tried using my dancer to kill him, but didn't have success until I switched to using my Red Mage with a Coral sword. It took forever to kill him, but I won!

Shinryu also took a few tries, but it was due to my ineptitude with casting vessel on him fast enough. Once I managed that, the first was trivial.

NED took two tries. First try I died to Amalgest followed by Grand Cross. Second try i got extremely lucky, and he didn't use Grand Cross at all!

I'm glad I was able to finish before the deadline. I've been busy lately so haven't had time to play much.

I've just managed to complete the triple crown too with my party of Black Mage, Bard, Oracle, Bard.

Omega was probably the most difficult, trying to time my two Bards with Romeo's Ballad correctly while I used the magic lamp for Carbuncle and used the Black Mage and Oracle to bounce Thundaga off the whole party.

Shinryu, surprsingly, wasn't too bad. I had everyone with Hermes' Sandles so I could get a turn in before Tidal Wave and Berserk him. Then I used Golem from the magic lamp so I could absorb a hit then just pounded away with my best attacks (Apollo's Harp certainly helped). I only had one party member left alive at the end though.

Exdeath took a couple of tries but once I took down the different parts in the right order, I was done.

Gonna attempt the bonus dungeon as well at some point, not sure I've done it before.

Less than ten days till registration opens! I'm all hyped up, and have been for a while.

Trying to decide what kind of run to do this year. Last year I went easy and did a 750'run, so probably won't do that again. Maybe I'll do fifth job, I've never done that. And do I dare do berserker risk?!? Decisions, decisions.

Anybody else planning on playing this year?

I probably will. Don't know what kind of run I want to do yet though.

Posted by: Neal 28th May 2019 21:21
Definitely in. I will likely start with a 750 Berserker Risk and then see where the winds take me from there.

Posted by: AltheaValara 31st May 2019 15:36
Registration is open! I registered a normal run with Fifth Job and Berserker Risk. I'm crossing my fingers that I get at least one mage for Omniscient (I know there's ways to beat him without mages, but having a mage makes it far easier).

Posted by: AltheaValara 18th June 2019 22:54
HOORAY I DID GET A MAGE! My Wind Crystal Job is Blue Mage. Water is Berserker, as expected. Fire is Bard, which I’m just about to get. I’m currently on Crescent Island farming Death Sickles. The RNG is being stingy, unlike Yagamoth in The Run who got one on his first try. I was kind of hoping to get Beastmaster to make getting Blue Mage spells easier, but Bard is a good alternative!

What did everyone else get? I hope you are having fun with your runs!

I had horrible luck farming Death Sickles! It took me way longer than usual.

My team is Geomancer/Berserker/Bard/Chemist, and now that I've beaten Soul Cannon it's going to be easy mode. Yeah, the Ronka Ruins are still in front of me before I can actually use chemist, but this is a solid party composition, albeit a bit weird.

I'm doing a pure chaos natural run and I've only unlocked Samurai and Bard so far which isn't bad and it shouldn't be long until I get my third job.

Sounds like a good team! I actually like Geomancer quite a bit. And yeah, the combo of bard & chemist will make things easy!

That sounds good so far! Good luck with the remaining jobs!

I just unlocked Fifth Job, losing dancer and picking up chemist! So my team is Blue Mage, Berserker, Bard and Chemist. Should be able to get the triple crown with this team, yay! Now I'm off to farm Dragon fangs and turtle shells.

I've ended up with Samurai, Bard, Summoner and Chemist. I had a feeling I'd get Chemist, everyone seemed to be getting it!

I've been watching my streamer friend Loxxulus play FFV for the first time. He's in World 3 now, so that have me the kick in the butt I needed to finish up my Fiesta run, which I did yesterday.

Omega took a few tries, but I eventually won--and was surprised when I did because wasn't tracking damage and thought I was only halfway there. My Chemist and Bard sang Romeo's Ballad with haste shows on. My blue mage also had sing, but was wearing a flame ring which came in handy at times. She did Mighty Guard and White Wind but mostly sang. Www got lucky that the few attacks that Omega got in were recoverable from. I used the Rune Axe on my Berserker. tip: don't use the chicken knife, it dinks for 0 damage.

Shinryu was just a matter of getting a Bacchus Wine & Dark Sigh mixed quickly enough, which took about three tries. Once that was done, it was pretty easy. I used Dragon Breath for most of my damage (I had farmed 99 Dragon fangs in World 2).

I won against NED on the first try, taking a page from the speed runners and having my bard sing Hero's Rime. That and Aeroga from my blue mage and Dragon Breath from my Chemist did the trick. I tried to balance my attacks against all targets so to kill them in succession. Meteor only went off once, and killed my Berserker but everyone was alive at the end.

I feel I got incredibly lucky with this year's mix of jobs. In the past I've done multiple runs, but I have a large knitting project I need to get done soon (a shawl I want to wear to Distant Worlds) so it's just one run for me this year.

I have a quick question about the Four Job Fiesta. Who assigns the jobs and how do people know you follow the rules.

The jobs are assigned by a twitter bot - you can get more information at http://fourjobfiesta.com/help.php . As for following the rules, nobody watches you unless you're someone who decides to stream your progress. This is just for fun and charity, so cheaters are only just generally being lame.

Registration is in 3.5 days for this year's Fiesta! Who's all in? I'm about 50/50 on skipping this year. I tried to do the special Esuna for Corona event, but burned myself out because I had the crazy notion to farm Dualcast before hitting the Fire Ship. I succeeded in my grinding but failed to finish the game.

If I do play this year, I might try a chaos run. I can't remember if I've ever done so or not, hmm. Also, if I'm going to do the Fiesta I should hunker down and finish my replay of FFIX, but I'm still very early in that game....

If anyone is planning to stream their FJF this year, let me know in Discord. smile.gif

I'll more than likely be doing it again, not sure what run I'm going to do yet though, gonna see the options this year first.

I did end up registering, for a Pure Chaos run. That should be intetesting. smile.gif

The Run ended up being Monk, Geomancer, Dancer and Samurai. The last runner is finishing up now, doing some grinding in the castle in the rift.

Dragondarch finished first at 8:10:06. He almost got a sub 8 but screwed up when entering damage against NED on his spreadsheet and had to redo the fight. Elmagus finished shortly behind him, at 8:11:26. Won on his first try and wasn't pausing to track damage. That was a pretty exciting win - ended up with just Lenna alive with 1 HP!

I hope all playing this year are having fun!

My run got put on hold for a few weeks because my mom commissioned me to make a baby blanket for a shower she was going to, and that took all my spare time, but I'm back at the Fiesta now. Yesterday I did the Ronkan Ruins, so unlocked my final job. I have Monk, Red Mage, Blue Mage and Bard. Not bad for a Pure Chaos run! I think I can get the triple crown with this party, though Omega won't be fun.

Registration is open for this year's event! Thought I'd bump this thread in case anybody is interested.

I'm sitting out this year, probably. The last few times I tried doing a Fiesta run (whether the regular one or the special charity ones) I got burned out and dropped my run after I had my four jobs unlocked. I think the exciting part for me is playing to see what jobs I get.

I still think the Fiesta is very cool, though, and a Twitter friend of mine will be playing so I'll enjoy seeing his progress (he usually tweets quite often during the Fiesta with status updates).

If you're playing this year, I'd love to hear what kind of run you're doing and what jobs you end up getting!

Hi I'm new with this. Yes I've been in Caves of Narshe long enough to be a relic. by reputation if I was a relic I'd probably be the Cursed Ring doesn't have any benefit unless does it trade in for the Cursed Shield that turns in to the Paladin's Shield. Please don't trade me Caves of Narshe I'll be a good girl. But yes this year I shall participate with my girlfriend Lucretia who lives with me btw. Yeppers real thing this time two months strong about. Can we according to the rules use the 2 player option in the config menu on the PS1 version? If not I do have Final Fantasy V Advanced too. So she could do single player on the PS1 and me on GBA. But yea me and Lucretia plan her two Red Mage and Blue Mage, me White mage and Black Mage or would I benefit using Time Mage and wait out to get Meteo. If the two player is allowed. If not I may do my other two differently. So looking forward to this so romantic me and my girlfriend doing Four Job Fiesta for the first time together. Neither of us have before and what month does the event officially start again btw? June it looks like. Oh and yes Lucretia is a misspelling she was homeless for 10 years forgot how to spell Lucrecia as in Lucrecia Crescent only her name is Lucretia Killingsworth. And she's a tiny beautiful scottish woman. So adorbs she can actually fit in normal sizes unlike me always being 1x or bigger. Not that anything is wrong having some back. But yea she's likey tiny Disney fairy.

Well, I missed The Run this year. sad.gif Apparently it was on the same day that KupoCon did its FFXVI pre-launch livestream, and I watched that (it was delightful). I usually enjoy watching The Run so I'm sad I missed it.

I wasn't going to play the Fiesta this year, but then a Discord acquaintance posted their jobs and I was like, "okay, why not". I'm doing a 375 run, which might be new this year? Not sure, I haven't done the Fiesta in several years. A 375 run gives you two 750 jobs and two non-750 jobs.

I started out with Black Mage. Cool, I can work with that. Garula took me two tries, because I was trying to save the Frost Rod on the first try and wiped, oops. I broke the rod partway through second try which killed it, so yay!

Second job unlocked: Berserker. rolleyes-straight.gif Figures.

I was hoping to afford the PS4 Pixel Remaster version of the game so I could take pretty screenshots, but I don't have the money (I want ALL six PR games, and it doesn't look like you can buy one on PlayStation and then get a discount on the rest; can't afford them all at the moment). So I am playing the GBA version on my DS Lite. I'm managing, but (insert squinting GIF here).

Anyone else playing this year?
