CoN doesn't employ RSS feeds, right? Maybe you should consider adding them. I think they would really make things easier for people who want to be a part of the CoN community.

For people who don't know what RSS feeds are all about, see this video:
RSS Feeds in Plain English

If you want help setting them up, I could probably help out with that.

I know there is a similar function with the option to subscribe to the topic, but the problem with that is it adds e-mail to an already flooded inbox, whereas RSS feeds help keep things organized, and besides, everyone likes options, right?

Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

Do you mean that you want to see RSS feeds for the forums? We do indeed have RSS for the site, three different feeds right now.

News Feed: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/rss_ipb12.php
New Fanart Feed: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/rss_ip...?feed=newfanart
New Fanart Comments Feed: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/rss_ip...feed=fanartcomm

What other feeds would you be interested in? Specific forums, or newest posts? Individual threads?

Oh, yeah, I meant for the forums. And yeah, sorry I didn't see the feeds for the main site, which is awesome too (thanks!). But yeah, one for the forums would be really cool (As an example, I'd personally be interested in maybe one for the FF6 forum, just showing the new posts there, and I would definitely use one for the Own Creations forum, etc.). There seem to be RSS mods for most of the popular BBs, and I haven't looked much into Invision yet, but I hope they have something.

They certainly have something, as it's what we use for all the ones I linked above. Note that we are using, at least for now, an ancient version if IPB, so you probably wouldn't find much else other than what we already have.

The concern with providing a feed for every single forum is that we run the risk of cannibalizing our own traffic. People who subscribe to RSS but don't ever come to the site from it can't take advantage of any other site features, nor can they do things like buy from AmaCoN to help offset the cost of offering the site (and its associated feeds) in the first place.

Does anyone else have any opinions on whether they'd find RSS feeds useful in this context? We might be willing to try a trial period, but not until I figure out a good way to get web metrics on who's reading the feeds, and not unless I'm confident that it would be an easy upgrade when we do finally get around to upgrading the forums significantly.
