I may have made this same topic, or participated in a similar one, a year or so ago. Anyhoo, suppose they made a live-action movie/trilogy/series based on FFVI. Who would play which character?

I was discussing this with a friend of mine who's also a Final Fantasy fanatic. We both agreed that Christopher Walken would HAVE to play Kefka... I don't think anyone else has the acting capacity to play such an evil, hilariously hateful madman. If you ever saw the "Best-of Walken" special on Saturday Night Live, you'd know what I'm talking about. Walken's one of my favorite actors, Kefka's one of my favorite bad guys... that would be so cool.

Owen Wilson would probably make a decent Edgar. He's got that hopeless womanizer sort of vibe. And Luke Wilson could be Locke!

And Ian MacCellan (sp?) would make a perfect Gestahl. Looks good in a long white beard, makes a decent bad guy.

Wow, some of these roles are hard to fill. Here are a few I came up with.

Edgar - Bruce Campbell (Hail to the king, baby)
Strago - Patrick Stewart
Setzer - Alec Baldwin (anyone seen "The Cooler," he could really bring a dark edge to the role)
voice of Mog - depending on which direction you want to take the character, either John Lovitz or Joe Pesci
Banon - Danny Glover (as long as he gets to say his famous line from the "Lethal Weapon" series)
Kefka - Steve Buscemi

I remember being in 10th grade and naively wishing that they would make a FF3 movie. This was when ER and Gwyneth Paltrow were first hot, so I thought Noah Wyle (ER's Dr.Carter) would be great for Locke and Gwyneth was perfect for Celes.

Did anyone else have ideas for this imaginary movie casting? Can you think of a real life person who is perfect to fill the role of a FF character?

Edited to add:

I just thought of who would be good for Relm. Dakota Fanning, the cute little girl in Hide and Seek. Of course with her natural blonde hair. She's a good actress and she could pull off the quirky humor thing that Relm's got going.

Actually Believe it or not I remember the original commercial for FF6 which I saw only once, where Mog is sitting at a desk doing the monster casting calls. He kept going- NEXT! He does have an actual voice. I'm not sure whether his girlfriend is emulating that, or If she's simply got something that sounds like you'd "expect" a Moogle to sound like.
That commercial was awesome btw.

Yeah I was kinda scraping the bottom of my imaginative barrel with those. I cant think of a young enough actress to play Relm, although I think Acker is physically close (a bit old though) and she could play a kid well enough, but I stand by James Marsters as Sabin. He's got the hair, the cockiness and he apparently does martial arts as a hobby, and having met him I'm fairly confident he'd make a good Sabin.

I think I should maybe be a little worried that my girlfriend sounds like a Moogle, but oh well tongue.gif

Incidentally, how's this for the worst casting idea EVER: Danny DeVito as Wolverine in X-Men. He was suggested by some bloody stupid casting assistant and Bryan Singer fired the guy for it.

Terra - Gotta agree with everyone who's said Christina Ricci
Locke - Ewan MacGregor
Edgar - Heath Ledger isn't a bad choice, but I don't really know if I'd buy him as a king. Maybe Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints).
Sabin - For some reason, it doesn't seem like any of the actors suggested for Sabin seem quite right. Sean William Scott wouldn't be the worst choice I guess.
Celes - Nicole Kidman (I don't think it's that important to get the age right. In fact, I think Celes would play better as a non-teenage actress.)
Shadow - If he even had only a few lines, I don't think Jet Li could pull it off well enough. I'd probably have to go with Ray "Darth Maul" Park.
Gau - Some child actor
Relm - Ditto
Setzer - Johnny Depp
Cyan - I'm not sure if he could pull off the accent right, but I think Ken Watanabe (from The Last Samurai) seems honorable, yet powerful enough to be good.
Strago - Christopher Lloyd
Mog - It's gotta be Warwick Davis. I mean, he played an ewok, the leprechaun in the Leprechaun movies, and was the main character of Willow.
Gestahl - A lot of support for Connery. I think Christopher Lee would be better, and Brian Cox (X2, Troy) would be really good.
Kefka - I'm kinda surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but I think Willem Dafoe would be perfect. He wouldn't be quite as cartoony as Jim Carrey, but he could definitely still be funny enough and crazy enough for the part. Plus, he's shown he can do the bad guy thing.
Gogo, Umaro - Doesn't really matter.
General Leo - Michael Biehn. Seems to play the military man all the time, plus I think he could get the emotional part of it down too.

Hm, Ray Park as Shadow, very interesting. Some of those others weren't so bad neither.
But I thought of someone else perfect for a role like Kefka's. Gary Oldman. Someone told me and I was just like 'duh.'
Besides that I still stand by my old chioces (except I now think Ed Harris would be a better Leo.)

I always thought Jim Carey would be the perfect Kefka. I understand people think he'd be too comic and wouldn't get the genocidal aspect of the character down, but I think he could pull it off. He's a talented actor and has branched out into semi-serious roles recently. Plus, have you ever seen him on talk shows? C'mon. He's crazy.

Gestahl - When I was thinking of old guys Patrick Stewart came to mind, but whoever said Ian McKellan had a much better idea.

Celes - Cate Blanchet.

Leo - Denzel Washington. I also like to think of Leo as black b/c of the Amano art, despite his lily white sprite. Denzel would pull off the noble general perfectly. Plus, black people are rare in the FF-verse.

Mog - If we're going by the IIIus commercial then I'd just hire a drunk off the street, for cryin' out loud. You guys really want Mog to sound like that? I guess I always had a more wholesome voice in my head when reading the text.

I think Depp as Setzer and Carey as Kefka are awesome suggestions, and I have a few more to add (forgive me if these have already been mentioned, I simply lack the time and patience to read five pages of posts):

Antonio Banderas as Cyan: Yes, I know he's supposed to be a Japanese samurai, but his appeareance and accent always made me think of a French or Spanish musketeer-type, plus Banderas simply rules.

I think that McKellen could to an excellent Gestahl, but personally I think he'd make a better Banon. They might even consider expanding the role for him.

Willem Dafoe as Maduin: That guy could play anyone and be awesome.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as Biggs and Wedge, for purely humorous reasons (they're in [expletive deleted] EVERYTHING together.

I normally don't revive 5 year old topics, but this being one of my all-time favorites on the FFVI Board, I had a few ideas.

Sabin - Dolph Lundgren (after seeing him in an episode of Chuck and watching Nostalgia Critic's Rocky IV Review, I felt Dolph was a good choice)

Relm - Chloe Moretz (played Hit Girl in Kick-Ass, its hard to find someone young, but I feel she would be an ideal choice for Relm)

Mog - Verne Troyer is a good choice, but if this ever happened, Mog would likely be CG.

As for Kefka, I'm not sure, although the idea of David Tennant is floated around as an idea for everyones favorite Psycho Clown

If it's live-action, then:

Terra: Ellen Paige

Locke: Brad Pitt

Edgar(forgive me): Orlando Bloom

Sabin: Matt Damon

Shadow: Dustin Hoffman

Celes: Minnie Driver

Gau: Any Twelve year old that can act like an animal.

Relm: Dekota Fanning(I always imagined Relm to be in her late teens in the game)

Mog(would have to be CGI): Tom Kenny

Strago: Christopher Lloyd

Setzer: Johnny Depp

Cyan: Jim Cummings(All he would need to do would be to grow a pony tale and he would fit the part perfectly)

Gogo: Michael Cera

General Leo: Keith David

Kefka: Gary Oldman

I definitely agree with the following:

Johnny Depp as Setzer

Christopher Walken as Kefka (I agree, one of the few people who can pull this off, if not the only one)

Ian McKellen as Gestahl

Willem Dafoe as Maduin (I never would have thought of this, but I like it)

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as Biggs and Wedge (this is an awesome idea)

Dolph Lundgren as Sabin (I was thinking the same thing!)

General Leo- Wesley Snipes (Duh!!! He's perfect for this!)

And my own suggestions:

Tom Selleck as Cyan (The guy who played Richard in Friends. He looks just like him!)

Ryan Reynolds as Edgar (The dude who played Wade in X-Men Origins:Wolverine. He's always getting verbally shot down in his movies but he makes it funny)

Shadow- Hugh Jackman (The dude who played wolverine- heck yeah! A good actor, the right voice, and is great in action scenes, what more could you ask?)

Kris Kristofferson as Bannon (The guy who played Whistler in Blade. He's got the looks and is a good rebel-leader type)

Locke - Mark Wahlberg (the guy from Three Kings and Planet of the Apes- he's a good troubled actor with a youthful enough appearance and manner)

Terra - Milla Jovovich (the girl from The Fifth Element! Of course, right??)

Chris Tucker as Ultros (only he could pull this off)

That really big dude from Gladiator as Vargas (his size would probably need to be digitally enhanced to tower over Dolph Lundgren as Sabin, but he's got the muscles and the attitude)

Angelina Jolie as Daryl ('nuff said)

Relm? any cute little Korean child actress will work

Umaro? John Lithgow! (Dude, he already played a sasquatch! AND he's hilarious.)

Strago... hmm... Robin Williams? yeah I think he'll work well

Everyone else can be no-name actors

NOW I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Bleh it would take me way too long to read everyones responses so imma jus go ahead and say this, if anyone else has said it before then yay for more opinions,: Why not make it like Advent children? A CG based movie. I wasn't too fond of the voice for Terra in Dissidia, but they already have rough ideas as for Setzer (KH2) and Kefka, dissidia as well,. I mean with a CG movie, you could have better choices with voices. Real actors nowadays are getting older and don't have the abilities they use to have. Well the problem is that everyone wants to cast old actors who they love, when in fact the best cast would be a much younger, newer one (remember, most of the principle cast is under 30). Instead of thinking Harrison Ford or DiCaprio, everyone should be thinking Emile Hirsch. Most likely, a movie like this would be made up of lesser-known actors, ones whom most people here have never heard of before. With a dense ensemble cast of such individual characters, any big names would cause their character to overpower the others and take over the film (ie, all the suggestions of having someone like Brad Pitt as Edgar).

The only case where I see this working (outside of Kefka, Gestahl and Leo) would be Setzer, since he would have such a comparatively small role in the film yet would be expected to have a large impact and immediately steal the screen. This is one role which Johnny Depp would fit perfectly.

I could see Johnny Depp playing Kefka. lol

Lou Ferrigno as Sabin. Of course, he'd have to dye his hair blonde lol. I say Lou because he's still big and built. I saw someone mention Arnold Swarzenneger (sp?), but last time I saw something about his physique on TV, he was flabby and not buffed up anymore. Not sure if that's changed since then.

I know its too late for this, but, seeing the joker in dark knight, heath ledger would have been good Kefka, haha, too bad. I also think Summer Glau could do a Terra,of course with another hair color. Maybe is it that she already has that highly stylized (thin and long neck) body that resembles an Amano character. Also I think her face has this otherwordly quality, she doesnt look normal human like haha. For Celes, mmhh, thats a hard one. Im a fan of Julia Stiles, so, this may be a little biased . I once saw a picure of her julia holding a stick and it reminded me of celes, of course change the pitchfork for a sword. She also has a long neck and thin figure. But a lot of people dont think she is pretty enough, dont know why tongue.gif
Other characters I havent thought about them that much.

Seconding the John Rhys-Davies as Banon idea.

As for Shadow, I think they should do a Darth Vader-ish approach; have a body actor onscreen to do all the stunts and stuff, with a well-known voice behind it - perhaps Christian Bale?

Maybe Jaden and Will Smith for Gau and his father, with Jada in a flashback?

Celes, to me, cries out for one of two people: for a more uncomfortable and definitely un-Earthly look, Tilda Swinton. For a more celestial and "elfin" look, Cate Blanchett.

Locke Cole portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio

Edgar Roni Figaro portrayed by Heath Ledger (though he is dead now, sadly) or maybe Russell Crowe/Gerard Butler (has the same nose...)

Sabin Rene Figaro portrayed by Hugh Jackman (look at them!)

Leo portrayed by Vinnie Jones

Kefka portrayed by David Bowie

Bannon portrayed by Brian Blessed

Terra portrayed by ?????

Celes Chere portrayed by ???? I dunno...how about Kate Winslet?
