Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy XVI, posted a message through various official sources today that the development of the game has been delayed by roughly half a year due to COVID-19. Because of the need for teams to work from home, there's been issues with communication coming out of the Tokyo office, which in turn has caused problems with asset deliveries from outsourced partners. In extreme cases, those deliveries have been cancelled.
The news wasn't all doom and gloom though; Yoshida stated the next big news drop is due for Spring 2022. Additionally, he listed the tasks they are currently working on:
So while there have been delays, the game sounds like it has progressed fairly well into its development cycle. Yoshida ended with an apology for not delivering more news in 2021 as had been previously stated, and thanked fans for their continued patience. Source: Official Site |

I wish someone gave me extended delivery windows at work due to working from home for the last decade.

Pardon me for being out of the loop, but is Final Fantasy XV done yet or did they only release the first or the first few part(s) of it?

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 28th December 2021 11:04) Pardon me for being out of the loop, but is Final Fantasy XV done yet or did they only release the first or the first few part(s) of it? They released four DLCs for it (Prompto, Ignis, Gladio and Ardyn) and had some more planned but the remaining DLCs have been cancelled, so yeah, it's done. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch! Yes. FFXV is a complete game. As far as I know, it was complete when it was first released, but I *think* there's been some patches to help explain things.
Now, how good a job it does at explaining its story is another thing. When I finished it, I said something like "if I have to read an article on a website explaining the game's lore for the story to make sense, then your game has failed". That said, I love FFXV deeply because of the journey, and have plans to replay it in the future. It's just a shame the storytelling was so uneven. If you haven't played FFXV I recommend watching Kingsglaive first. It's a pretty good movie in its own right and sets things up for the game. I do not expect the same thing to happen with FFXVI. Yoshida is one heck of a producer and I trust him to lead the game well. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch!
