I challenge each of you who reads this to make a FF1-related thread in this subforum.

I recently purcased a NES copy of the game. I also got something by Retrobit called a "Retro Entertainment System" that is totally cool. It doesn't play CV3, but it plays Final Fantasy near perfectly.

Will you settle for a post, for now?

Along with my old ROB, my parents just unearthed my original copy of Final Fantasy I for NES, as well as both my original NES and my NES version II. I'm sure the battery is dead by now, as it's 25 years old, but I might well have to reclaim it on my next trip home.

I've seen those Retrobits before, one of my Facebook friends is constantly pining for one. Looks pretty neat if you're really wanting a console for ancient games. Again, though, if I wanted to go that route I bet at least one of my original consoles still works.

Final Fantasy was released in 1990 here in the States. Since I first played the game 25 years ago, I've made it a habit to give personalities to the Warriors of Light. My question is, if you were to envision a personality for each of those characters, what would those personalities be? I'll start be giving you an example.

I know that the warriors are all male, but it often allows me to expand a bit to play with the genders a little bit.

Fighter/Knight- Katrina was born to believe she had a destiny. All of her life she studied the way of the sword and the way of chivalry and honor. Her view of the world is very black and white, and seems to forego intimate relationships until the world is freed from its peril.

Thief/Ninja- Jin started out as a commoner's son. He is probably the least devout of the light warriors and often makes flippant comments about the others' personal beliefs. He is willing to do anything necessary to fulfill his destiny.

Monk/Master - Gale was born to a well off family in Corneria, and one day had run away from his home. In the week before he was found, he was shown the sadness and misery in this world. After watching all of his attempts at charity turn bad, he decided to separate himself from the rest of the world for the purpose of enlightenment. During his time with a clan of distant monks, he received his calling during a vision quest. He is extremely devout, as Katrina is, but is wiser to the ways of the world than she.

Red Mage/Red Wizard- Hwan was a magical prodigy, discovered very young. His obsession is the study of magic, and his need to perfect it. He is a very intellectual person, and often flustered when applying his magics in practical situations. He is a competent sword user as well, but shies away from harming anything unless the situation calls for it.

White Mage/White Wizard - Gunther never saw himself as a man of destiny. For his time before the calling, was to find a champion to assist and walk by their side. Upon finding Katrina, he has been nothing but faithful to her and her cause. He is young and naive, and worships the ground Katrina walks upon, and in his eyes, she is perfection. He is often shy and clumsy socially when not around her, and only speaks with confidence regarding her or for her.

Black Mage/Black Wizard - Alisha struggled for everything she had from the time she was born. Her face is pock marked with scars from the plague she suffered when she was young, and her body is frail from the injuries she constantly suffered growing up. She, more than anyone, shows an aura of mystery and power. She is often stubborn and hot headed, and though her face is often covered, her coal black eyes burn with a passion that can be shone through the dark arts.

Anyway, that's an example. Anyone else have an idea for types of part member personalities?

I'll get around to finishing this game sometime. Sometime.

Honestly though I mean no offense but the original NES version doesn't seem that fun. Might be more fun if I could play it with a friend or something, but still.

It's NOT that fun in 2015. I don't think many people would try to tell you otherwise, honestly. It was great in 1990 but things have changed a lot since then. I personally don't believe that anyone who hasn't played FF1 before should touch the NES version, at least not until they've tried one of the handheld releases. I'd play the PSP one a dozen times before going through the NES one again.

I tend to create personalities for the my FF1 characters too, but I never really made backstories before; there is no reason I couldn't, though. I guess I start now.

Fighter / Knight - John is an extremely passionate individual. When he was younger, he was known for being hot-headed; and he is hardly serene at thirty-five. He grew up in a smaller town far away from Cornelia, where he was taught swordsmanship as a sort of outlet for his aggression. When he was thirty-three years old, he left home to make his own life. He traveled for two years, during which time he discovered his Orb; he passed through Cornelia by chance.

Black Belt / Master - Dave has a much calmer demeanor, but deep down he is not really that mellow. He is the smart one of the group, and tends to take control of the situation, which greatly irritates John. He also very witty. His Orb was an heirloom of generations past. He felt its call, which drew him to Cornelia; he quickly fell in love with Jade. (I never really thought of him as a monk, just a non-celibate martial artist.) He is thirty-three.

White Mage/Wizard - Jade, John's younger sister by eight years, is a very down-to-earth woman, but also very caring. She can be a bit blunt at times, considering it kinder to tell the truth straight rather than sugar-coating it. She followed John after he left home, not being confident in his skills; he was irritated with her until she basically saved his bacon, when he decided let her continue with him. They tend to quarrel a lot. She found her Orb in her travels with John.

Black Mage/Wizard - Rose, who is Dave's little sister, is the most emotional one. She is always the peacemaker when arguments arise between John and the others. She is able to control her emotions to a great degree, but they can often show through in deadly ways. She is also prone to daydreaming, but snaps out of it fairly quickly, which is actually quite amusing sometimes. Her Orb was given to her by a wandering prophet. She is twenty-five.
