I played FFT for a few minutes when it was first released and it didnt really appeal to me. It seemed more like a chess game with video game characters. But Ive been reading these boards the last 3-4 months or so and a lot of good things have been said about this game. So, despite my previous experience, I went on Ebay and found a copy for $20 shipped and bought it. I have a ton of games left to break into and probably wont get to it for a little while. So all the good remarks left here about it have at least convinced one person to give it a try.

Great!
FFT is, IMHO, the single greatest FF. Ever. I'd be quite surprised if you don't report your own enthusiasm for it soon. |

Tactics is tied for best story in a video game as far as I'm concerned...deep, philosophical, riveting, viciously political, there is little that I can't say good about it. Hope you like it!

Hope you like it! I agree. My only problem is that the original PlayStation version got a terrible, gurbled translation. I much prefer the remake/port translation. |

I definitely agree about the new translation making the story that much better. I was just telling my friend last night that FFT has my second favorite story line of any FF games (first being FF6). -------------------- Wha? Thanks to me? |

Yes, I ALSO agree that the PSP translation is definitive...though I'm not crazy on most of the PSP's other 'enhancements' to the game, the translation is excellent. I'm not sure why it gets so much flak... -------------------- "If art doesn't risk upsetting expectations and challenging its audience, it can only stagnate." |

So all the good remarks left here about it have at least convinced one person to give it a try. I know several people that had a hard time getting through the first couple battles, so don't feel bad. I was hooked immediately, but that's just me. Once you get your copy, set aside two to three hours and just plug away at the first few battles. If you don't have at least a little interest then, come back and tell us and we'll do what we can to keep you into it, because it most certainly is a game that gets better the more you play it. Also, $20 on eBay isn't a terrible deal, I suppose, particularly if it's an original release for PSX. I sold my old original copy for twice what I bought it for many moons ago when I was poor, and then ended up getting a Greatest Hits copy instead. I also got my PSP copy for $13 shipped on eBay last year. I'm rambling here, it's still early - but there are so many ways to play this game now that everyone and their mother should be doing so. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
