Since I began playing FFT, people have duubbed it a lame ripoff of 'Fire Emblem', a tactics-based game similar to FFT. But I clearly see it as a whole better incarnation of tactics-based RPGs.
So, what franchise do you think is better and why? |

In my opinion, both have their place. Due to the sheer degree of differences between the two, I feel that stating one or the other is superior cannot be done based on the merits of the system alone. It's like comparing peaches and bananas: Both are fruit, are nutritious, and go well with ice cream, but they have a different shape, colour, texture of skin, and flavor. It all comes down to preference.
Of course, my vote doesn't have an option available. =P |

Since FFT is easily my all-time favorite game, I'm going with it. That said, Fire Emblem is great (and in many ways, very different) and has its own special place in my heart.

Tactics has, hands down, the best story I've ever seen in a video game, the best characters (aside from, maybe, Persona 4, but they're apples and oranges) and is just such an amazing game it stuns me. That said, Fire Emblem is great too, and deserves a play for sure, but I'm such a Matsuno nut, and Tactics is the best of his creations for sure.

I can't vote for sure yet because I haven't played Fire Emblem yet. I just got the one on Wii but haven't had a chance to play it yet but...
As a franchise I'd have to play a few Fire Emblem games and the first Final Fantasy Tactics was good but the franchise I'm sorry to say sucks. Why. Tactics Advance you cast a spell go to jail. You attack go to jail. What is this Monopoly go to jail don't pass go. Personally so far I prefer neither. What I like though they've moved to other genres of games was Shining Force on Sega Genesis,CD and Saturn. Though I don't have Saturn's Shining Force 3 but plan to give a hefty penny for it. I wish they would go back to making the shining series tactical like it was. I have 1 and 2 on my PS3 part of the Sonics Ultimate Sega Genesis Collection then I have Shining Force CD which is two games in one. Final Fantasy Tactics has to loose the two things before it can hope to be as good as the first one. The stupid penalty system where you got to jail every time you accidentally use an attack your not aloud to use. Then it needs to go back to being about ancient civilizations such as old English style Ivalice Not some children reading a book and getting transported to it.. -------------------- I treasure those who I love that love me in return. <3 |

Tactics has an unbelievably believable story. The fact that it has an insanely good battle system it just icing on the cake. Oh, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who hates the Tactics Advanced series.

Yeah, Tactics Advance wasn't very good, it was too cutesy for me, and when I think Matsuno, I think anything but cutesy. -------------------- "If art doesn't risk upsetting expectations and challenging its audience, it can only stagnate." |

I Just lost because i got the stupid rule of no fight. In PSP remake has slowdowns due to the capacity of the game vs the psp. also, the spell quotes in the ps1 original were taken out. psp allows you to fight along/against other players, and the psp has new battles, items, jobs, characters, and scenes added to it. these were not in the playstation original. Finally, while the characters spoke mordern english in the ps1, in the psp, they spoke 'shakespearn' style english. -------------------- In order to find your oppenent's weakness, you must first learn their pattern. I love the Fire Emblem series, but it just doesn't have the versatility of Tactics. The character depth in Fire emblem (specifically the new ones) Is something I wish tactics had done. I suppose a lot was lost in translation and more was lost because of the idea of random encounters on maps and becoming godly ( I realize everyone plays differently and this might not apply to some). However the game play was better in tactics with abilities that were so customizable, and your weapons are not broken after use, but through a skill (a particularly cruel one to be on the other side of). The main difference is the amount of strategy. In Fire Emblem, if certain characters die its game over, and if they are not considered crucial storyline characters they are dead permanently. Tactics has something similar, but your main character can "die" and stay dead until he crystallizes or drops his equipment. This allows you to be much more reckless. I often found myself running in to do as much damage as possible, and if I could heal him cool. If not I could always bring him back to life in few rounds. There are a lot of similarities though. I think the fact that Final fantasy Tactics was a spin off of a game that was so versatile gives it the win. Where fire emblem is less heavy on the role playing aspect as it is in the tactical aspect.

I don't really think they can be compared... They ARE similar in ways, but still too different in my opinion. I've been a long time fan of FE since... I can't even say when, a long time ago at least, whilst I discovered FFT about a year and half ago. FFT is a masterpiece, but I cannot say the same about TA... The Fire Emblem game varies. FE1-3 (especially the first two) are very outdated, FE4 is a masterpiece, FE5 is awesome, same goes for 6 and 7, 8 is... inferior, 9 was awesome, though, but 10 was kinda meh-ish and 11 (DS) wasn't that good.

they are similar in many many ways but fire emblem is a little less fantasy and a little more strategy but tactics has a little more ground base story and the sort
