hi, im totaly stuck and realy need some help, advise, hints or tips
in chapter 4 at Finath River where you´re up against a bunch of chocobo´s...
i keep losing al my char. here and can´t seem to get a working tactic
I know that if you're up agains a lot of red's you better start a new battle
But even 3 yellow 1 red and 2 black totally wipe me out..
My ramza is about level 79 now as are most of my other char.
I even equipt them all with angel rings for 1 rearise p. battle
But maybe I need other protection because eventhoug rearise is nice it's not enough here...
Does someone here has a working battle tactic?
Or some hint and tips on how to protect myself for the awesome damage the pesky birds deal?
Are there jobs that work well or better than the standart Ninja, Samurai and Monk skills I keep using agianst them?
Thnx in advance... flag-blue.gif

You need to have a caster in this battle, or someone with some secondary casting abilities. The Chocobos like to stay bunched early in the fight, so hit them while they are grouped up. Also, consider using some chemists with guns, or someone with equip gun (maybe a knight with Equip gun). As a a matter of fact, do that, Knight with equip gun, and use power/speed break on the blacks and reds. The Yellows are annoying because they are the healers.

Once you look at them as a party, they aren't that hard. Yellow is your close range fighter/healer, Black is your mid range fighter (archer) and Red is your caster. Use the strategies for fighting the human equivalents and you will be fine.

And like I mentioned before, your level hurts you in this fight. The Chocobos level with you, so they will never be underpowered. In some cases the Red's will be a level HIGHER than you are.

You'll also need a method of healing yourself, Auto Potion works well here since Choco Meoter also activates it. Just use the Auto X-Potion method, and you should heal most of the Choco Meoter damage. Make sure that you kill off any wounded Chocobos so that the Yellow ones cant heal them. As good as they are, Monk class are actually not effective here, due to the height differences, their attacks like Earth Slash wont hit their targets, Having movements like Move+2,3, Move in Water (Ninja), and Walk on Water(Samurai) will help you move around the water areas here, Math Skill is very useful here so if any of your casters know a few math, give them Math skills. you could also use a Geomancer's Water Ball and hope the chocobos become frogs. the best order to kill the chocobos are black, yellow, red. black chocobos are the slowest so have your fast units focus fire on them. after them should come the yellow ones since they're the weakest of the flock. then lastly try to surive long enough to take out the red ones. they should be last since as dangerous as they are, they're really fast and have high movements making it hard to catch them. instead of chasing them, have them come to you. lastly if you're lucky, one of the monsters will be a uribo at random making the fight a little easier

Glad you finally got past, also glad that Nytecrawla and i could help you. Since this one of my favorite battles, I like to save a copy so that I can always come back to it. The biggest obstacle in this battle is the depth 2 water areas, All the Chocobos can act in them with ease while a lot of your units are handicap. Because of this, the best way to beat them is use their own tactic against them. Also the Red & Yellow Chocobos act as distractions since they're really annoying. Most people make the mistake of aiming for the red ones first, thinking of taking out the biggest threat, but since the black are the heavy hitters, they end up weakening units for the red ones to finish off

I must admit that after being totaly frustrated with this battle it was realy rewarding the way the battle I won turned out.
The first time during FF Tactics I cried "YEAH!" out loud a few times when one of the birds went down or after succesfully blocking a attack
About 20 minutes into the battle I got the upper hand and couldn’t stop smiling, got a little sloppy and made a few bad moves witch almost turned the tables on me. My party was spread out all over the field and I needed to get them back together quick, almost lost it there but just hung in there to finish off the last chocobo's!
Think it took more me than an hour..

So maybe not my favorite.. defenetly one of the most rewarding battles so far for me…

(Btw I got the "attack red first" battletactic form this sites walkthrough..!
But I think you both could write a more usefull one.. thumbup.gif )

It’s a pitty though the battles after this one are all ridiculously easy now
Rushed through 4 or 5 in no time

..anyway great game!
& thnx again

I suggest to have a SUMMONER with you. If you have one, you'll know why. Summoners mean the world to me. My set up was with Ramza as a Chemist with a Mythril Gun, one knight with White Magicks, a Summoner with White Magicks and an Angel Ring, Rapha and her awesomeness, and an Archer. It was mad hard, I'm telling you. I don't even wanna start. And, not surprisingly, it earned a spot on my Hardest Battles list.

Never really had a problem. I used Worker 8 and Beowulf a lot around that time, so I had a tendancy to cripple everything really fast.
