I missed out on the original and Playstation versions, but I got the Advance version.

The only problem is some of the old guides are misleading.
Examples:

Intangir -- Can't use Vanish/Death. Got killed trying this (At level 30)

Relm's Sketch-- Some say not to use her because of a bug with the Sketch ability... But I really like her in the team because of her high magic stat, is this bug fixed?

Lets discuss the differences between the versions (aside from translation).

P.S.- This is my first thread here so If I did it wrong please tell me.

They did fix the sketch bug.
And the vanish/doom/xzone thing.
And they fixed the evade bug.

They did almost nothing to the normal game besides fix bugs and the translation.

Don't forget they also put 2 new dungeuns in it as the following:

Another dungeon. I don't much about this one, but I asume it will be unlocked after clearing the game.

They also renamed Ultros to Orthros mad.gif

And they edited alot of other things if you compare it to the Snes and the PS version.

They added espers...renamed most of the Bestiary and changed now classic lines to random moments of WTF.

They did fix the bugs too, so most of the 'POWER LEVEL!11!!1!!11111!" Guides are obsolete...just play it slowly and learn the enemies weaknesses. I mean, the only way to get good at this game is experience mang.

They kept the names the same for nostalgic sods like us instead of changing them to what I suppose a minority feels they should be because they're correct. Ultros was Orthros in his FF1 DoS cameo, but I think there was a bit of a backlash about that and they decided against it this time.

Let's stay on topic, shall we?

Other than the changes to Vanish/Doom, the Sketch glitch, and the Evade bug, then I haven't noticed anything. I haven't tried activating Psycho Cyan or Wind God Gau yet, so I dunno about those two.

Posted by: LadyArmageddon 20th February 2007 17:23
Sorry about that, it's just that I never really did the bug and glitch thing...I was just listing things that I noticed were different...which I guess after what I noticed I should be labelled LadyObvious as opposed to LadyArmageddon!! LOL

I havent gotten this far, but I was curious if SE opened up the 3 dunnied Rages (Allo Ver/Chupon/Siegfried). I was always curious why they were never available without Game Genie manipulation.

Posted by: RobertM 20th February 2007 22:08
I heard that because you can play after you beat the game, it is possible to get more than one Ultima Weapon and Illumina Sword.

Yes, this is true.. When you beat the game,

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
You will see the ending credits, and then it will ask you if you want to save. If you save, you'll end up on the Falcon Deck as Setzer. This means you can steal as many Atma Weapons and Ragnaroks from the last tier as many times as you want to!

Anyway, they added two new dungeon, as someone said before.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
One really, the other one is monster rush mode.

I beat the first one, but it became really tedious really quickly >_> The random monster encounters every 3 steps got on my nerves. Also, do not attempt this dungeon if you do not have a Gem Box (Soul of Thamasa) and Economizers (Celestriads). This is the longest dungeon EVER.

The final boss was pretty intense though, and I liked the new sprite compared to the old one >_>

Edgecrusher : I don't believe that you can get these 3 rages.. I've been collecting Rages lately and so far I haven't seen any Allo Ver, Chupons or Siegfrieds. I may be wrong though, since I still have a little while to go for my rages.

Also, they removed the "censored" sprites and replaced them with the "nuder" sprites. For instance, Goddess in FFIIIamerican had a skirt and what not. In this version, she's pretty much naked except for strips of cloth that cover the censorable parts.

Anyway, that's all the most "major" changes in the game I've noticed so far.. I may have missed a few though..

I'm not sure if this is the sort of information you are looking for, but if you neglected the water dance for Mog in the WOB you can now pick it up in the WOR. Just use mog in your fight with Leviathin.

Posted by: Mu the Squirrel 21st February 2007 03:05
They've fixed Gau's Rages to an extent, but one thing I noticed is you can leap the "Tonberries" monster, and it appears at the bottom of the Rage list from the status screen, however it doesn't appear on the in-battle list. =P It's like they replaced one bug for another.

It's nice that the life trick still works on all the undead though.

Also, you can steal Ragnaroks and Ultima Weapons from the final boss as many times as you like, and keep them with the after game save. This means choosing between the Esper and sword is now a no-brainer.

I too have been, and the gaps are still there for these rages. I having Living Dead (StillGoing) and Face (Phase) and there is still a gap in between them where Allo Ver should be. Same goes for the gap between Hell's Rider (Rider) and Onion Knight (Pipsqueak) and also Cartagra (Trilobiter) and Nautiloid. This means all three are STILL on the list, however I'll assume you must beat Typhoon (Chupon) and Siegfried in the Coliseum before they appear on the Veldt. I only just beat Siegfried there, so I'll let you know~

My bug cheking has yeilded the following:

Evade bug fixed, sketch glitch fixed, psycho-cyan exploit removed (retort status is now always canceled by death), vanish bug fixed (but only partially. Vanish/Life combo still works), many mosntsers made immune to vanish (just in case, I presume), heal rod now targets enimes when thrown (but still won't target allies for attack), and rippler actually misses when it claims to (it used to hit anyway. Haven't sucessfully hit Shadow to see if it kills Interceptor, haven't tested swaping Morph, Rage, or Near Fatal yet either), and the buired treaures in the phoenix cave as well as the floating chests in Owzer's mansion no longer lie about their contents.

For exploit fans, the Quick skips CPU turn and the Quick/doublecast for infinate turns both still work fine.

Posted by: Mu the Squirrel 24th February 2007 17:30
However, after hours on the Veldt it seems that the bug that cuts out the final three Rages is STILL there. =P Silly Square.

Posted by: Master ZED 25th February 2007 00:01
Well, Death Warden actually can appear on the Veldt; it turns out someone on the G'FAQs forum got the same idea I had and tried fighting him in the Soul Shrine to make him appear. It worked apparently (I'm not going to test it, my interest in the game is nearly gone). I'm guessing Square still doesn't know about that bug, hence the half-fix. happy.gif

Did I read correctly that now you can not only steal Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon from a certain the fight against the Warring Triad, but that in the bonus dungeons they may be avaliable as well? Since you can now save your game after beating Kefta, I wouldnt be intrigued to see what follows, but mainly Im wondering about this.

If you can get another Ragnarok I may just take the esper, so I can have one extra esper in my pocket

Posted by: Mu the Squirrel 25th February 2007 12:23
You can't steal the Ultima Weapon or Ragnarok from the Waring Triad, you steal them from the second to last final battle, then you save after the credits. I haven't come accross them in the bonus dungeon yet, but I'm not very far into it to tell the truth.

I dunno about the Soul Shine, I haven't been there yet, and have no idea how to get it. ^^ I figure beating the bonus dungeon unlocks it. Mebbe it'll fix the other rages as well~

Posted by: WildHalcyon 26th February 2007 12:19
From what I can tell, the 'other' rages have not been fixed. Certainly the tonberry rage isn't fixed yet.

The rippler bug still works, which I'm just fine with so long as I know who's rippling whom.

Psycho Cyan no longer works in its original incarnation, but supposedly still works using berserk status. Wind God Gau, however, is out. So is Wind God Gogo.

Thanks to the Soul Shrine, you can get unlimited Offerings (renamed "master scrolls"), and gem boxes (renamed? Not sure...). This and the information already posted above about Illuminas ("Lightbringers") is pretty much your best options at new exploits in this version.

Posted by: l)arkShadow 26th February 2007 22:05
Actually, you can't get unlimited Gem Boxes. You can only get one from the box at the top of the Fanatic's Tower, and MagiMaster doesn't drop it.

Allo Ver DOES appear in the Veldt. I've tried it, and about 30% of my monsters faced on there are Allo Vers :/ It gets quite annoying. No Chupons or Siegfrieds yet though.

Edit:

I've also noticed something.. has the desperation attack rate gone up? In the advanced version I've seen at least 6 people use their desp. attacks. In the original, I only saw Edgar's Royal Shock, and at that time I had no idea what just happened.

Edit 2:

Thanks for correcting me Mu the Squirrel tongue.gif Now I have a reason to do that entire shrine again pinch.gif

Posted by: Thanos6 27th February 2007 12:42
I have to agree. I've seen more desperations in the week or two of having this game than my entire time playing the SNES version.

You can steal Soul of Thamasa from the monsters that demand Elixirs and Master's Scrolls from the one after X-Ethers.

Posted by: Zeromus_X 28th February 2007 04:13
You can also get more Master's Scrolls just by defeating the Samurai Soul in the Soul Shrine as well.

Randomly in the Soul Shine monsters show up that look like Magic Pots. Their are several different ones, you can tell them apart by what they demand from you... you don't HAVE to give them items, in fact I rarely want to, but they're pretty tough enemies if you choose to take 'em on.

Posted by: RobertM 1st March 2007 03:04
How do I get infinate turns?

Posted by: l)arkShadow 1st March 2007 04:35
Equip a Gem Box (Soul of Thamasa) and Economizer (Celestriad) and learn Quick from Gilgamesh or Raiden. Cast Quick + another spell, then you'll get 2 more turns (5 spells casts), then it will be that character's turn again, instantly. (But time resumes and enemies can still do stuff) Just keep casting quick and you'll get infinite turns.

And I learned that the Magic Urns were tough foes the hard way.. Didn't know they knew how to cast Ultima >_>

Also, Gogo and Gau cannot equip the Merit Award anymore. This makes Gogo's Bushido and Runic pretty much inaccessible, which sucks (You can equip weaker daggers, but I'd rather use the Magus Rods)

Posted by: sonicdeathmnkey 3rd March 2007 09:53
i never used bushido(swordtech) with gogo. come to think of it, i never really used gogo. I was right pissed when i couldn't equip merit awards on him and gau. i would always equip tiger fangs on them to give them a decent stat boost.

also, stats have the potential to go through the roof with the new Speed +2 bonus. (no more leveling up before i get Quick.) The HP +100% is received so late its worthless. i had my characters maxed out before i got it.

At Mt. Zozo aftetr you get Cyan to join you, pick up the shiny thing were he was standing and use it to unlock his chest.
