I dont know if this has already been covered or not but in certian random encounters (usaully the rare ones), you are sometimes accompanied with one or more guest units. What I like to know is, is it possible for them to join you? and if yes, what are the chances of them joining you? and does the way you help them affect how they join you?

On a secondary note, how many random guest units have you all met? Give the class of the unit, gender (if a human), and where they can be found.

For Example:
On my travels I've met a Chocobo, female Dragoon (Lancer), Red Panther, and a group of Green Dragons at the Mandalia Plains

In order to find your oppenent's weakness, you must first learn their pattern. Once you know their pattern, you can build a counter strategy.

Generic guest units are often tied to maps' rare battles, such as Zeklaus Desert's popular "Knight v. Minotaur" deathmatch. Sometimes they offer to join, sometimes not...it seems to be a random chance totally unrelated to the current party ranks (i.e. they ask even if all slots are filled). I've seen most of the ones you listed, plus the Red Dragon at Bed Desert. The female lancer doesn't ring a bell, though.

But anyway, it's a rare treat and even though the game's guest AI can be kinda junky (it only seems better because characters aren't complete greenhorns) it's still a welcome addition. At best, the old loot-n'-boot strategy can be employed, where one strips the newcomer of his/her items and primes their dismissal; at worse, they're a meat shield.

FFT's definitely got some awesome flourishes and filigrees to its battles, though, with traps, rare battles, guests, and weather effects added in. If only they'd made rain able to flood lower areas and such like in the Tactics Ogre games. /tangent
