Now you can buy the entirety of amazon.com at any time and support CoN while you do it. Unfortunately, for now the system is a little bit clunky because Amazon is really restrictive about how you access their data; however, you can find the new store here:

http://cavesofnarshe.com/amacon/

If what you're looking for simply doesn't exist within our categories, you can click the http://www.amazon.com/?%5Fencoding=UTF8&tag=cavesofnarshe-20&linkCode=sb1 link to be directed straight to the full Amazon site, where any purchase from any category will earn a little bit for CoN's bill collectors.

This is not only for CoN members - give the links to your parents as they are shopping for Christmas, or give it to your friends when they're looking to pick up some new books or a power drill. The more the merrier.

I think I speak for all of us in the UK when I say d'oh.

But no matter, it's an intresting array of options it throws up for the future with a wide variety of things available to buy related to Final Fantasy and lets you buy from the rest of the amazon inventory as well as a bonus, so perhaps I'll hold off on buying books and graphic novels from Play or amazon.co.uk for a while...

Plus we can repay all the bandwidth we have sucked from the site with our straw latched to a hole in the series of tubes.

Sadly, I can't buy half a curly wurly on any Amazon store.

Got me, it works perfectly on all my PCs. Hopefully Amazon will soon understand that their offerings, while full of great products, are a bit shaky in terms of development.

I will be trying to get a UK version up asap.

We'll be looking forward to it R51.

Let me be the first to say, WOOHOO! I need some of these thing to fill my gaps. Especially the guides. *collects them*

Is FFIII even out over there?

*is jealous that everyone gets things before the UK*

Which reminds me, what about amazon.ca?

Posted by: Rangers51 13th November 2006 15:40
Wait, I lied. UK won't actually be up until I get an email from Amazon. Same with Canada.

Sorry!

Well, I still look forward to it!

Will the prices be roughly the same?

The prices to you will be identical to what you would pay normally through Amazon. You pay nothing extra to buy via CoN, but CoN gets a small cut. The only downside is that you can get only what co.uk stocks.

And thanks to those who ordered the Master Creatures already, I actually hope to order one myself pretty soon!

Posted by: Tiddles 13th November 2006 16:28
FWIW, amazon.com will ship much of their stock to the UK. You may have to pay import tax, but the last time I checked, items such as a single DVD wouldn't incur any, though games might, being more expensive.

Posted by: karasuman 13th November 2006 18:03
I sent the link to my mom and my mother-in-law, both of whom will probably do at least some Christmas shopping on Amazon. I explained it to them, but I can't guarentee that they'll actually remember to use it.

I do, however, promise that I will use it soon. We're expecting another Amazon rewards certificate, and I have a little bit of Christmas shopping to do in addition to that.

Posted by: Elessar 13th November 2006 18:35
AWS is getting a heavy influx of developers these days, but with the Christmas coming on, I'm guessing you won't see much change for a little while longer.

Anyhow, congratulations on this. Since I buy the majority of my books through my parent company, it looks like I'll be funding this site as well. That's what I call a bonus.

Posted by: chou 13th November 2006 18:35
can we get half of what you make back as a discount if we do this. i mean think about it youre still getting something for nothing.

That would be against the TOS and would cause CoN's store and account to be shut down, and perhaps legally persued.

Any chance you could tell the AWS folks to be less restrictive in implementing our own solutions? I'd like to have total flexibility to use Amazon XML feeds and convert them into a truly live page that lives directly on CoN, showing only a search box and the specific items I want to show. However, the restrictions on this make this impossible - I can only query the server once a second to get info. I understand why, but man, I don't like it. smile.gif

Thanks for the effort, hope you buy lots!

And shut up, chou.

You can buy anything from there, not just Final Fantasy stuff. I believe I say so right in the first post, in fact.

Canada is done, I was waiting to post the link until the UK was ready too, but I've been waiting for confirmation from amazon.co.uk since yesterday morning.

Posted by: FallingHeart 14th November 2006 18:53
Can you still use the same services that you have with your amazon account?

I mean, my family uses amazon a lot to get stuff, so we pay a large fixed fee (and by we I mean not me) for shipping, it makes everything we get that year free 2-day shipping. It actually saves us a lot over time. So would I still be able to get 2-day shipping for free? If yes, then I see no reason why to buy my amazon stuff through CoN.

I believe that is the case, yes. It will use your already-existing Amazon Prime account. The only difference at all is that you would start your search using CoN tools - once you do that everything else will track as if it's CoN as long as you don't lose your cart cookie.

ooooo, me likes. i'm definately gonna be getting FFXII, and when i do, it'll probably be from CoNzon.(yes, that is the new name. you will use it. you will love it)

i'll most likely be getting a strategy guide for XII(i have one for every other FF i own, why stop now?), as well as FFV Advance.

as for the Master Creatures firgurines, did anyone notice that they misspelled Kefka as "Cefca"?

Posted by: Tiddles 14th November 2006 21:14
I've seen it romanised as "Cefca" before (translated soundtrack names perhaps?)

Surely, though, the store name works better as AmaCoN?

Posted by: Snowman 14th November 2006 21:24
1) It certainly does sound better.

2) You changed your avatar Josh!

3) You may have to wait a while for .co.uk, as we brits can be a wee bit lazy.

Posted by: Rangers51 15th November 2006 11:54
AmaCoN for your shopping needs indeed.

So, I just found out that Amazon pretty much changed their aStore program to do more or less what I want. So now I will need to redo the product listing for the stores in general, all three of them. smile.gif Given that I put myself way behind at work by fiddling with my new avatar yesterday, I'm not sure how soon I can get that to happen, but I'll work on it!

And the UK still has yet to approve the store.

Posted by: Nytecrawla 15th November 2006 14:39
I've made a purchase, the Master Creatures, Cefca, and FFXII Guide, just cause I'm a completionist. I've already finished XII, now I wanna know what I missed.

AmaCoN, FTW!!

(P.S. Can I get a Taeguk Uppercut shirt?)

So basically you are selling FF related stuff on Amazon to make money for CoN?

Posted by: Rangers51 31st December 2006 13:55
Actually, we can sell everything on Amazon. We feature FF-related stuff, but you can actually get anything at all.

Posted by: eloc_jcg 31st December 2006 19:37
So Amazon is sorta like eBay?

Posted by: Elena99 31st December 2006 21:06
Amazon is a store with set prices where you can also buy second-hand. Ebay is a place where you bid on items.

Posted by: eloc_jcg 1st January 2007 02:06
eBay can have set prices also.

Posted by: Elena99 1st January 2007 12:15
True. It's mostly for auctioning items, but you can use their buy it now feature.

Anyway, if you want to buy a book, CD, DVD, or something like that, doing it through the CoN Amazon store allows the CoN to make some money and pay for hosting and domain fees, without it costing the buyer any extra.

Posted by: Rangers51 3rd January 2007 11:35

Here's a link that should work in the future, though. FF6a (US)

I actually wasn't sure, so I did the same thing that you could have done: checked the amazon site, to which there are about a dozen links in this thread. Apparently they don't take PayPal, but they take credit cards, direct debit from a bank account, or check/money order.

I'm confused here. How do I get the non-FF stuff (that's not listed as an FF item) and still have it go to CoN? When I do a search, it says I must pick a category to search under, and then it only allows me to search the items on the list I could just scroll through. The only other option I see is going to the regular amazon store, with no indication of my shopping going toward CoN.

Two things to discuss with you all with regards to AmaCoN today, nice and quick.

Textbooks: as much as you might hate to admit it, University folk, summer's nearly over. You'll have to buy your textbooks soon for the fall semester, and what better place to do it than AmaCoN? All you need is the ISBN or book title and edition, and you can find it on AmaCoN. They have new books, and they have used books, and from my personal experience (my wife buys as many of her books for her Masters' as possible via AmaCoN) the prices on both are better than you can find at your school's bookstore.

Amazon Green: with a name like "Amazon" you'd have to assume that they have some level of eco-consciousness, and now they're driving that point home with the new Amazon Green, a section of the site dedicated to environmentally-friendly products that you might not have seen. Even if you don't buy from Amazon, this part of the site can really help educate you to what you might want to consider buying offline or on.

I just found out the other day that not only does AmaCoN (at least on the US) offer Microsoft Points with instant codes (meaning you can get the redemption code emailed to you instead of having it mailed), CoN gets an enhanced fee on those items!

Long story short, if you need to get MS points (and probably Wii points and other similar items, though I haven't had time to look), don't go to a store. Get them from AmaCoN and you'll have them faster and get us a lot more money!

Yes, I am well aware of how the EU uses the Euro and not the pound. When AmaCoN was designed and built, the United Kingdom was the only option available for all of Europe. Germany just recently became an option; however, I am aware of under ten active members who are from Germany or Poland and would benefit from having this option available, so generating this content is not high on my priority list at this time. Of course, if you're planning to spend hundreds of Euro, we might be able to work out a deal faster.

Posted by: Bas 28th July 2009 23:01
^^ Nah - I don't necessary mean that you should set up amacon for each specific country - But is there a way to order things in the EU from a Amazon site showing up the prices in Euro? I am not even sure if this is possible, or how high the delivery charges are - Maybe they are quit low cuase of the EU, dunno....>.>

Well, I'm hitting post six thousand now, and I figure, what better way to do it than in promoting AmaCoN? It's all that people expect from me, right?

So, with the holidays in mind, I know that you guys probably either want to get, want to give, or know someone who wants to use Amazon. I know a lot of the time you don't want to be like "omg go to CoN first, random internet guy pays for this site I like using Amazon!" either. So, I put together these four easy links for you. If anyone clicks these links, they go straight to the Amazon homepage, but anything they buy while they're there goes to CoN. Simple as that.

US: http://bit.ly/7BCOl4
UK: http://bit.ly/5fkF4w
CA: http://bit.ly/6J409x
DE: http://bit.ly/6Y6R4K

And wouldn't you know it, now there are four countries there. We have Germany as well now - not sure I'll ever set up a more robust store for Germany, as I doubt traffic warrants it, but you can now buy anything from amazon.de and give CoN credit, too.

Just a reminder, if you haven't gotten your textbooks for fall semester yet, check AmaCoN for them! CoN member Hanyou just managed to get one of his books for the semester for forty-eight cents, used. Granted, that's not gonna happen for everyone, but you could get all your books much cheaper than at the campus bookstore, even if you have to pay for expedited shipping!

Posted by: Hanyou 19th August 2010 19:41
To add on to what R51 just said: If you're a student and have an email address ending in .edu, you can get a few extra benefits like FREE 2-day shipping. Well worth checking out.

Posted by: Rangers51 17th November 2010 17:48
It's the holiday season! Well, technically, it's the holiday shopping season starting next Friday, at least here in the States. And, the holiday season is when AmaCoN makes almost 25% of its yearly money for the site, too. So, I'm just bumping this thread to remind you of a few things:
  • You can buy anything on AmaCoN. Not just Final Fantasy or Square Enix stuff!
  • Anyone can buy from AmaCoN! All they need is a link from CoN, so tell your friends and family, or even make an AmaCoN link to your own wishlist when people ask you what you want as gifts.
  • You can buy either from Amazon or third-party sellers.
  • You need to visit Amazon from an AmaCoN link of some sort (any link from CoN will do, they all work), and have an empty shopping cart when you get to Amazon to guarantee that CoN gets credit.
  • AmaCoN money pays for part of the roughly $1000 a year that it costs to run CoN's server, and, of course, some of the contests we run too.
  • Like Hanyou said, students with .edu email addresses on their account can get free 2-day shipping, with some restrictions.

Amazon is doing some big sales before, during, and after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday apocalypse, too. Check them out: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=38408...avesofnarshe-20

If you have any questions or aren't sure if you're doing it right, don't hesitate to ask me. It obviously helps me a lot to have people use AmaCoN, so I'm happy to drop what I'm doing to help!

Posted by: Rangers51 23rd November 2010 13:22
Amazon's Black Friday week sales are pretty epic. I just noticed that you can get the first six Harry Potter films on Blu-ray for $40 or DVD for $24 total today - that's pretty impressive, and even with the utter lack of money I have right now I might have to pull the trigger.

If you're getting a link from CoN, it will contain "cavesofnarshe" somewhere in the URL (unless you're using a link from amzn.to - if that's the case, it should still work as long as you got it from a real CoN source, like a newspost).

Other than that, there's no way to track it other than asking me a day or two after your order to confirm. Frankly, Amazon doesn't WANT to make it easy, because they get more money if they're not paying us, so that's why the answer isn't exactly satisfactory or easy to use.

I know the semester has started for a lot of people, by the way, but everyone out there should remember that AmaCoN is a great place to find textbooks for this and every semester. Usually they're a lot cheaper than your University bookstore, too, which I know from experience, and they have used books the same way as your Uni store does. All you need is the book title and edition, or, even better, the ISBN.

The link from CoN shows "cavesofnarshe" in the URL, but it redirects me to amazon.com itself. I suspect this may mean it's stored in a cookie somewhere...

Edit: Just placed my order, for like $33 before a gift certificate. I hope it went through for CoN!

I think it's more of a session variable than a cookie, but yeah, you're not too wide of the mark. And yes, your order did get credited to CoN's account, thank you.

I did have a little bit of trouble since I was afraid of using the back button or starting a new amazon.com tab, but I had to tweak the stuff I was buying a few times (getting a newer edition once, sending to a different address another time), so I was a bit worried.

Good to hear it went through. smile.gif

Yeah, Amazon isn't trying to make this easy for us, heh.

As Josh of course already knows, I AmaCoN'd a fair chunk of my textbooks this fall. Cause hey, if I've gonna drop a couple hundred $, I might as well do it in a way that's gonna put money into CoN's pocket tongue.gif

Just like everyone else, AmaCoN has a lot of deals coming up over the next couple weeks, and they're not just limited to Black Friday. They released today their American Black Friday Week deals for Music and DVD/Bluray, with more to come, I'm sure. When I see the gaming version, I'll make sure to get it into the Great Gaming Deals thread too.

The holiday shopping season is about to kick off. We haven't had a good month for AmaCoN so far this month, but with all the holiday gifts you no doubt have to buy for other folks (or other folks will be buying for you, because you totally deserve them), don't forget to use AmaCoN. It's one of the few things that pay the bills around here, so why not keep us in mind while you're buying the stuff you'll buy anyway?

Can I use AmaCoN to buy stuff that's not sold by Amazon but by some third party via Amazon?

You've asked that before, I'm almost sure. smile.gif

Answer, meanwhile, is yep!

There might be some issues with AmaCoN currently, so if you are a user of this option - and please use this option since it pays for the bills that otherwise come out of my pocket - please let me know the next time you make an AmaCoN purchase so I can verify that it is working correctly. Thanks!

I try to ensure my semi-regular Amazon purchases are all AmaCoN. Most recent purchase will have registered within the last 10 days. Has it shown up on your records?

As of Saturday at 8 am, I am the Subway up the block's newest sandwich artist, so when I get paid, I'll get a replacement GPU (I fried one yesterday) at AmaCoN. I wasn't aware that I could buy whatever I wanted through you guys, I thought it was just for CoN merch or something.

I do see a few things in my UK dashboard. For what it's worth, I'm mostly worried about American purchases and purchases made after March 25 or so - but I'm thrilled that you have kept the fires burning for the UK store. smile.gif

I just now placed an order for about $35. Let me know if it shows right.

Posted by: Rangers51 11th April 2016 21:05
Looks like it did, GMH. I had to wait for the weekend to end to see the processing go through, but looks like you had a three item order, of which two have shipped as of earlier today. Thanks!

Prime Day is next Tuesday. While it was pretty lousy last year, I have to assume that they've learned from their mistakes and will be doing more interesting stuff this year. I've already bought one thing from their Countdown to Prime week, so here's hoping. As a reminder, here's how you can start your AmaCoN purchases and help us pay for server costs:

It's pretty much a Black Friday for Amazon Prime members. Like I say, last year it was not great, so maybe they'll do better this time.

Does AmaCoN work with Smile.Amazon.com or will the money only go to one place?

For what it's worth, I just made an order on Smile.Amazon.com.

I'm not really sure if it works with Smile. I do see an order that came through around the time you posted this, but not sure if it was yours or not. Looks like it might have been a book or e-book, just one item in the order?

Posted by: Glenn Magus Harvey 15th August 2016 05:10
Yes; should be a book for $0.65 and shipping for $3.99.

Posted by: Rangers51 15th August 2016 14:19
Yup, that went through, then. Thanks! (Shipping is never mentioned in our stuff, as it's not part of the flow.)

Glad to see that AmaCoN has a Canadian division -- or in other words, it works with Amazon.ca. I think it does. It's on the AmaCoN page and I just made a purchase.

There is apparently no Amazon Smile for Amazon.ca (which seems to be fully unlinked from the main Amazon site, the same way you can't get Amazon.jp stuff on main Amazon), but oh well.

You might be the first person to use .ca... if that's what you're telling me just happened. smile.gif

Not my fault that the book was less than CA$11 on Amazon.ca and similarly priced on Abebooks (i.e. ~US$15 including shipping), but then upwards of US$150 like everywhere else. tongue.gif

Still on the fence for FFXV? Does $35 1-day sale help?

Maybe I'm dense, but something isn't very clear to me: I saved a bunch of stuffs to my list before going through AmaCon. As long as I go through one of your links before adding those items to my cart, all's good, yes?

You're not dense, Amazon makes it difficult. If you have stuff saved in a shopping list or wish list, AmaCoN should get credit as long as your cart is empty and you close all of your Amazon tabs before using an AmaCoN link to start shopping. smile.gif

Final Fantasy V by Chris Kohler

Someone wrote a book about Final Fantasy V which is about to become the first book I've ever bought for myself...weird that I've never wanted a book to read. Hm.

I'd like to get a paperback and perhaps I will at some point, but for now, I'll go with the e-book version. Money's tight, after all.

SNES controller that has no wires wow

Look, FF fandom, I don't like you, and you don't like me. I can't say for sure why it is, but I don't feel like talking about it.

Here's some money. Thanks for not SWATing me.

I do believe it comes with a charging cable, which, while very short by normal video game controller standards, can be extended with usb extension cables.

https://amzn.to/2AGrINR would be sufficient, unless the device you're trying to connect it to supports USB-C, and then you'd likely want something more like https://amzn.to/2Mj5Vx9.

Now, if they start restocking the vastly superior Super Famicom colorway on Prime...

Oopsie. You know, I may be right or I may be wrong about this, but it seems like there was a time when I would have noticed that I was supposed to do that...

Thanks for the heads up, I'll remember next time. flag-blue.gif

Edit: Got it.

No problems hooking it up, but in the middle of moving and not sure where I'll land, plus having an allergic reaction to the dust kicked up by moving all the things, so worried I will miss work. Pressure, yey, I luv it.

Time to play some FF6

Let us know whether you have an issue with one of the analog sticks getting stuck, and if so, whether the suggestion (on the Amazon page) of loosening the screws fixes it.
