Hi all, it's been ages since I last visited. Pleased to see the forum's still going strong. flag-red.gif

Anyway, quick question - is the Steam version of FFVI based on the GBA version (with the extra espers and levels) or on the SNES/PS1 version? If it's based on the GBA version I may well get this ASAP.

It's the GBA version with new art assets and sound; more accurately, it's the mobile device version.

Good to know. I'll go get some Steam credit then...

You can pay directly on their site with a credit card or with Paypal, I think. Just saying, since Steam Wallet cards only come in fixed denominations.

I've heard negative things about the PC version on Steam. Is it something worth putting down coin on? I do own the GBA version already.

I mean, it really depends, doesn't it? The biggest knocks I've heard to the Steam/Mobile version is in the art style, the UI in general, and the sound quality. Of those three, you should be able to determine from screenshots and video if you can live with the first two; the third, well, nobody seems to like the sound quality on the GBA version, either, so that is kind of a wash. I hear it's possible to mod the art assets to be more traditional, if you hate them, but I don't know anything about that personally.

If you want a legitimate version of Final Fantasy VI that you can play on your PC, this is your only option. If you don't have the burning need to have it on Windows, I have to assume it's not 100% worth the money. But that's just one guy's opinion.
