I originally wasn't going to post these here, but Death Penalty had asked me about them and they had been received rather positively, so I felt I would show you the small hobby I took up this summer. Perlers! Just beginning, I've already experienced the joys and frustrations of these tiny little beads. Anyways, what I've completed so far is Locke, Mani Mani, and Ganon. Enjoy!

Ganon gave me the most issues and I'm still not all that happy with him, but hey, at least it's done!

I too think the Ganon turned out very well. One thing that I've done in the past, Gabe, is to actually build the designs in reverse so that you're ironing the back. This usually results in the front holes ending up more uniform, which to me looks a little better. Of course, if you're one of those people who likes the holes to be almost nonexistent, that won't help you. smile.gif

I was actually going to start flipping the jpg that I work with so that is the case. This way I can get that smoother front.

Just a random thought.... It occurred to me the other day that cross-stitch would really lend itself to retro video game fanart. It has that pixelated appearance like these bead thingies, whatever they are actually called, so I am surprised I have not seen them anywhere. I think I might make some of my own....

The Mani Mani statue is an item in the game Earthbound that has...curious psychomagical properties. Or maybe just psychological. It's never quite explained.

They look great, Gabe!! I think Ganon's my favorite, as well, as he looks to be pretty detailed and big. Guys, perler beads look like they'd take a lot of patience, a good eye, and steady hands. 3 things I am lacking!

I must google this as I've seen my little nephew bring back these same things from school. I never asked about how it was made but these pictures of yours have inspired me to see what it's about. I wonder how much it costs for the supplies....

Nice work as well!

Not sure how I missed this the first time, but looking great, Gabe! I agree that Ganon turned out really well, and I'm excited to keep up with the progress on Atma. I think I've already expressed by preference for the way you don't overheat/seal your beads. Glad you put them up!

I think I had to use about 20 of those boards to do my old one, Gabe. How many is that Atma going to take? Looks awesome so far.

It's going to take around 25 boards to complete.

I had to add a few extra beads in for structural integrity purposes. I'm still a bit weary about the blue part in the second row

When you do perlers, do you have to have all the boards to make a large piece, or can you iron off some of the segments and then remove those boards to use elsewhere? Like, to use Atma as an example, Gabe, can you iron out the top four tail pieces and then move those boards to the bottom?

The boards are pretty thick when you include the height of the pegs, so you'd have to be pretty careful to keep them level when the boards are gone, or they'd start to separate. If you had to re-iron seams, too, I think you might run into the issue I mentioned a few posts ago about uneven holes after ironing, too. Probably would work, really, if you were careful enough, but the boards are pretty cheap.

Updated to include the stanky leg.

Josh, what did you use when you ironed your large project? Did you just use the sheets that were included?

A delay in updates because I ran out of dark brown. After finding some discount bible perler beads, I kicked it into overdrive and finished! I am so nervous to iron this thing. Ah!

Good luck on the ironing, that thing's a beast!

For anyone who doesn't know, each of those clear squares is almost exactly six inches across. The thing is seriously huge.

Oh lord, ironing has certainly got my goat. Slow and steady will win this race. Mostly so I don't smash it into oblivion. In the meantime, I had a friend ask me for a Ramona Flowers.

Unfortunately, that large atma weapon perler project met with complete disaster. As fun as it was to build it, my perler ironing skills for such a large project were not up to snuff.

However, now that it's closer to summer again, my hobby has started to rear its head! Here are a few projects I've done.
