For those of you who didn't get a chance to see how to get the FF9 Pizza Bear, here's how it's done.  Denise had the best explanation I've seen about how to get the Pizza, if she wants to post it again.

Getting the FF9 Pizza Bear can only be accomplished on Disc 4 of the game (Unless you're playing on the Italian version, in which case you can find him on Disc 2 or 3).  Assuming you're not playing the Italian version, the following steps must be taken before the Pizza Bear will appear on your screen.

You must begin by seeing all nine of the friendly monsters *twice*.  Once you've seen them all the first time, they begin appearing in random locations around the world, not necessarily in the forests.  Some of them are even encountered while flying around on the Invincible (Which is pretty strange, let me tell you.)  After you've encountered the friendly monsters twice, a tenth friendly monster will appear, the FF9 Pizza Bear.

However, the FF9 Pizza Bear does not just appear once you've seen all the friendly monsters.  There are certain specific items you *must* have in stock.  First, you must have defeated Ozma and received the Ozma card (You cannot have obtained the Ozma card in any other methods), and you also must have defeated Hades.  You must have captured 100 frogs and defeated Quale, and you must have every blue magic spell for Quina.  However, the most important and most difficult item to obtain is the legendary Clappa Slippers.

The Clappa Slippers are in the secret underwater lair of Gerarde, who calls himself "The Giraffe King".  When you have the sea-going chocobo and can dive, dive just off the coast of Alexandria (There are no bubbles - you have to guess.  It may take you awhile).  Once in, you are in a dungeon much more difficult than any other dungeon in the game - the monsters are nearly impossible to defeat and they don't give a single bit of experience.  As you make your way through the lair, solving puzzles and defeating monsters (The monsters are a palette swap of the Yan, but much more powerful), you'll come face to face with Gerarde.  Gerarde will not meet with you until you get the Bermuda Triangle, a musical  item that is hidden in the ruins of Madain Sari.  After talking to Gerarde, the rocks nearby Madain Sari will be movable, and as you make your way through the rubble, you'll uncover treasure chests and more, but once you dig a path down to the boat docks, you'll find a new treasure chest that holds the Bermuda Triangle.

Make your way back to Gerarde's Lair and give the guards the Bermuda Triangle.  However, the guard accidentally drops the Bermuda Triangle and it breaks into three pieces.  Since Gerarde refuses to meet with you since the Triangle is not whole, you are ear once  banished from his lair until it is fixed.  Well..hmm...who could fix the Triangle but the Master Synthesis himself, Hades!  Go back to Memoria Castle (This step is the reason for the Disc 4 - In the Italian Version, Memoria is available for exploration but not completion in discs 2 and 3) and talk to Hades, who will fix the Bermuda Triangle once you find Zidane's Glue.  You need to back to the Tantalus hideout and fight Baku, who is much more difficult than before.  Once you defeat Baku, he will give you Zidane's Glue, which can be used to fix the Bermuda Triangle.

Give the Triangle back to Gerarde, who will finally give you the Clappa Slippers.  Now that you have the Clappa Slippers, The Pizza Bear will randomly appear as the tenth friendly monster (I only hope you have the Pizza he demands from you, because if you don't, he'll wipe out your party pretty quick!)  Good luck!

OMG!!! NO WAY!!!!  I am so going to do that like...RIGHT NOW!! OKAY? OKAY!!!

Thank you, Neal, for giving me a new purpose in life...the FF9 Pizza Bear.  I have never experienced such joy.

Posted by: Elena99 29th October 2002 16:19
Ah yes, the pizza. It may look complex, but there are people who manage to stumble upon this accidently.

Bear with me, I haven't played the game in about a year, but I am very confident that I remember it.

Okay, well remember Conde Petie? It starts there. Make sure that you have Steiner, Eiko and Garnet in your party (this is very important), and talk to the dwarf that's discussing boiled owl. He's outside the item shop with another dwarf. When talking to him (if you have not given Stella any Stellazio's yet...that's also very important. You can't have given her any yet, or it won't happen), he'll ask you what you like best. Garnet will mention that she's never tried owl before, and there will be an amusing scene where Eiko claims that she must have pizza (particularly, oglop pizza). The three walk away from the dwarves, and Steiner mentions that he is also hungry. Garnet will say that Treno is world famous for it's pizza, and that they should go back and get some.

Now, you don't have to go back through the tunnels right away, you can wait for the airship, since the Pizza Bear is only there in disk 4. In the Italian edition though, as Neal mentioned, there are differences that allow you go to back more easily for it.

Anyway, go to Treno. Remember those kids who were talking about becoming snobs when they grow up? They've, thankfully, changed their minds, and have decided to open a pizza place. But they aren't quite ready for business yet. So see Stella, and give her all the Stellazio's at once. IMPORTANT: The Aries Stellazio must be last. If it is not last, then it won't work, and you'll have to go back to your last save point and try again.

Once Stella has all the Stellazio's, she will say something to extent of "Quack! Thank you my dears, but I must go now. I smell Pizza. My servant will give you your reward." And she flies away. After getting the reward from the servant, go back to where the kids are. They have their shop open now! Talk to them both, and they will give you a free pizza, and ask you to spread word that they are the best pizzaria in the world.

I've found the Pizza Bear before, and I just want to say it's the greatest thing that ever happened to me in an FF game. It changed my whole life. I didn't know video games could have so much meaning until I ran across the Pizza Bear. If you haven't done the necessary things yet, do them NOW. I highly recommend running out and buying FF9 just to see this event if you don't have it.

Let me help out with the strategy for defeating Baku, since he's FAR more difficult than Neal suggests (at least, for me he was.) The party I used for him was Zidane, Eiko, Steiner, and Quina (You HAVE to have Quina for this, it is utterly impossible without her.) Don't bother with Vivi, because any attack magic directed at Baku is automatically reduced to 1 (and he has about 130,000 HP.) Amarant is equally useless, since if you try to use him, Baku says "long-haired freak" and rushes him for 9,999 damage. he'll do this right away if you revive him, so don't even bother.

Your best bet is to get everyone into trance right before the fight, or at least Zidane and Quina. You'll need Zidane in trance to perform his last dyne attack, "monkey-punch" which can only be gotten by taking the orange chocobo to the hidden cave under Treno. This is one of the only ways to do signifigant damage to him (usually about 5-6000 damage.) The other way is to hope Baku physically attacks Steiner. If Steiner is wearing the golden belt (you have to trade 5 oglop cards, 4 skeleton cards, 3 jelly cards, 2 namingway cards, and a Bahamut card to the third kid running by with a green hat in Lindblum to get it) and the Rubber pants, then Baku will bounce off him when he attacks, and do 3-4000 damage to himself.

The reason you need Quina in trance is so she can use her last blue magic spell "chef's specialty", which only shows up when she's in trance. This normally doesn't do anything, but in this fight it stops all the damage from Baku's "noxtious gas" attack, which will almost always wipe out your entire party. It only works for about 5 turns, though, so you have to hope he won't use it after that until you get another trance. You can learn "chef's specialty" from the Ugly Tonberrys that appear randomly around Black Mage Village on disk 3.

Wow! I had no idea there were so many secret things in FF9! I knew there was like Excalibur 2 and Tin Armor or whatever, but jeez.
So I finally know what the FF9 Pizza Bear is, after being given the cold shoulder from Tiddles many a time.  :p
I am Enlightened.

Hopefully, I'll have the free time to do this someday...

Posted by: Drez 13th July 2003 02:37
omg...I think you're all crazy I just saw a post at gamefaqs luckily this place ain't so strict so I can post here but I read on the FF9 board someone asking if this is true....I registered today just to say YOU ARE ALL CRAZY WHAT GAME ARE YOU PLAYING?!?! Unless this is a make believe board or something(if in which it is im sorry because i only got the link directly to this page) than you all are sick in the head...pizza..bear......you GOTTA be jokin me. >_<

Posted by: Tidu-who 13th July 2003 03:28
Well, being lazy as I am, I never actually went through with thinking to try all the hooplah. So I'll leave it to one of the Enlightened Ones to answer if it's true or not. I'm not gonna be the town idiot that actually goes through with the thing and then says "wtf?", while everyone points and laughs. If your not in on it, it's best to lay low. That's what methinks anyways.

Haha, rereading all of this now, I realize it sounds of that one legend of the silver chocobo in ff7 and talking to the garbage can by Tifa's Bar, and then going down into hell and fighting forever until you come up on the island where KOR is. And there's some kind of beanstalk involved. Tiddles knows what I'm talking about anyways...

...Oh...Wow, I finally get it. Haha.

*slinks away from former stupidity*

After deep thought and crosreferincing the statistical elements of the analogical side-effects of the theoretical differences of what your saying to the enemy data and to the walkthrough of FF9 on your site.  Succesfully completeing the Bermuda Traingle cubed crossrefence.  I come to the conclusion that I think... this is hard for me to say since their isn't that much conclusive evidence... that your... well lying *starts to breakdown*.  I'm sorry Neal and Elena for doubting your wisdom and intelligence because without you I would be nowhere.  You have been my heros since childhood.  I mean without you Elena I would have never though of crossrefencing things.  But I must be strong and say what I feel.  Please don't hate me.  *assumes the fetal posstion in the corner of his room reapting over and over again "I'll never tell"*

sorry, but i had to say it.

Posted by: monkey-wrench 25th July 2003 21:00
ok do you guys have any proof that this exists?
Like some screenshots or something?

ok what i have to say is this.
first of all if this were true it would have to be in the strategy
guide, or some online site or something.
and second, its way to much work for one little event to happen.

I dont have as much time as you guys might have to try these things
so if this is some inside joke or a hoax, please tell us cause
id rather be doin other things.

Posted by: Narratorway 26th July 2003 01:08
Sheesh, it's hoax already!  How much longer can this go on?  The bear only exsists in I the heads of the mods here in the CoN that thought it up.  I believe it was Tiddles' thing, but I can't really remember, I wasn't around during conception.  In either case, laugh at the long explanations or quit complaining.

Posted by: monkey-wrench 26th July 2003 21:19
well they sure did a goob job making it believeable.
to bad its not real tho..

EDIT: for some reason the FF9 Pizza Bear reminds me of that
bear on the cartoon called grim and evil.

You have to do everything stated above in less than 2H55min, and eat pizza in the process, otherwise it doesn't work. That's what I did, and I'm a proud owner of pizza. I hope you had a backup save.
Good luck on your quest.

Does it matter what toppings you have on the pizza?  Mine was just plain cheese; could that have affected the results?

My friend eric says that he got cheese pizza and nothing happened.
