Many Warriors of Light were abuzz at the news that dropped earlier this week: a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is currently in production. Built by Lightspeed Studios, this is an officially licensed game from Square Enix.
What we know thus far:
This former player of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (may the global version rest in peace) is not surprised by that last item; I longed for Final Fantasy XIV units in that game but the rumor was that Naoki Yoshida, XIV's producer, did not like gacha games and would not approve much use of his game's materials in the mobile gacha games. What remains to be seen is just how Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will monetize. The game will be free to play, so many fans are speculating that there will be a glamour cash shop much like its big sister has. According to FandomWire, Yoshida's goal is to create a sustainable, long-running game rather than a quick cash grab. Fans can sign up for an email list to obtain the latest news about the new game at the official Final Fantasy XIV Mobile website. > does not like gacha games
I gotta say, while I don't play FF14, I do admire the commitment toward...I guess I can call it "ethical game design". Have actually thought about paying for a subscription for FF14 a few times, though overwhelmingly the conclusion I arrive at is that it wouldn't fit my schedule to be worth it. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I use Mastodon, where I am @[email protected] ( https://sakurajima.moe/@glennmagusharvey ) |

Videos are starting to spill from the mobile port!
Here's a detailed video, from character creation onward: https://youtu.be/_BU9WKByuPE?si=YQ0N26hw602qU44d And a much shorter video, showing off the various classes: https://youtu.be/JoB5juETvjY?si=EHs0tbdzzwiEo0Mm Quote I gotta say, while I don't play FF14, I do admire the commitment toward...I guess I can call it "ethical game design". Yeah, to borrow a phrase from a friend: Yoshi-P is a good bean. He's been careful to balance the game so it's not a soul/time-sucking grind, but still offers challenging content for those who want it. I'm currently in an "off" phase with FFXIV. I still love the game to pieces, but I'm enjoying my return to FFXI's Vana'diel more. So I'm barely touching FFXIV these days, and in fact took over a month to finish the current main story content. It's refreshing that I feel like I CAN take a break; I am confident the game will still be waiting for me when I return and that I won't feel like I've fallen behind. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch! Schedule: Mondays: Forspoken Fridays: Final Fantasy XI Saturdays: Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Side Quests & Shenanigans |

Love the ethical non-gacha game design, but I suspect I will continue to NOT embrace FFXIV. I don't need more stuff clamoring for my limited time and energy, you know?
Still, here's hoping people enjoy it! |
