As a suggestion, I think we should make a list, and then fill in  our pronounciation of each. It would make it flow easier, and it would be more comparable. And if you don't really care to leave an answer, you could just leave that choice blank.

Anyways:

FF6

Celes - "sell-iss" (like monica celes)
Gau - "gow" (like oww)
Gestahl - "gesh-stall"
Kohlingen - "co-leen-gen"
Sabin - "say-bin"
Strago - "stray-go"
Umaro - "you-mar-o"

FF7

Aeris - "air-ees"
Cait Sith - "kate-sith" (i think it's supposed to be "kite-shee" but I refuse to say it that way)
Sephiroth - "sef-a-roth"

FF8

Balamb - "ba-lahm"
Laguna - "la-goon-a"
Seifer - "see-fer"
Squall - "skwall"

FF9

Amarant - "am-a-rant"
Brahne - "bron"
Eiko - "I-ee-ko"
Freya - "free-ya"
Garnet - "garr-net"
Lindblum - "lind-blum"
Necron - "neck-ron"
Quina - "queen-a"
Vivi - "vee-vee"
Zidane - "zi-dan"

FF10

Tidus - "tie-dus" or "tie-tus" (like the FOX show basically, and again, it's supposed to be "tee-dah" i think...never.)

Miscellaneous

Bahumat - "bah-hom-it"
Chocobo - "choke-a-bo" or "cho-kah-bo" (please tell me that I'm not the only one that says it this way, it just seems so natural)
Ifrit - "if-rit"

I love these threads ^_^

Gau: alright people. Gau means "bow" as in bark and is pronounced almost exacly the same way (a guy in Mobliz even says that he goes around barking.:P)

Seifer:  Zepher(more likely it's Cipher as in The Matrix, but I say Zepher.)  Means either code or heaven, in Hebrew, i believe.

(btw, interesting note to anyone who's parent's have ever yelled at them for saying God in vain:

from encyclopedia mythica

Quote
The name YHVH or YHWH is written with four consonants only; it is the holy Tetragrammaton, or in Hebrew, Shem Hameforash. Hebrew has no vowels. In ancient times, it didn't even have vowel points. These were added much later, and at that time pronouncing the name was already forbidden for generations. So no one knows how the most ancient name of God was pronounced. The vowel points make it sound like Yehova, and later it was anglicized to Jehovah. The reader may not say it. He or she must say instead the name Adonai, which means "My Lord." The name occurs about seven thousand times in the Bible."

I think it's funny that we're not supposed to say "God" when it's only a euphemism )

anyway,(now that I've pissed off Rubes again) GAME ON!!!!! :E

Sephiroth:  SephIRoth (I stress the ir part, most people I know say seph-i-ROTH, again not sayin which is better[I reserve that right with Gau though]just stateing what I say) path to heaven, or code of heaven (I'm not sure whether Zepher is code or sky)  Also: Cloud = Squall, Sephiroth = Seifer. (and some people wonder why FF8 sucks )

Chocobo: Chou-ko-bou (that's how I say it but I'm probably wrong)

the american "o"  is to a japanese person "ou"  the u part is where you make your lips into an o shape. (in other words Japanese people don't allways do that)   since the "u" is there anyway in English, we normally don't write it.   to do an o with out the "u" simply don't round your mouth.  which is what I think tommah was refering to.

Vivi:  I freaking LOVE this name.  It's a misreading of the roman number 66   (yes, it's pronounced VeeVee, other wise it wouldn't be cool.)

Gestahl, Kohlingen, and anything else with and ahl in it: make sure you say that "H" (should sound like you're checking your breath.)

Eiko: is pronounced eh-ko  (ex. lei, fei.)

Beg to differ regarding the H.  It's a very German construction, and the H doesn't sound especially in German.  It's also ambiguous to say Gau = bow: which bow?  A hunter's bow, or a polite bow?  I say it as the latter.  Again, German.

One I seem to say differently from a lot of people is Mobliz, as Mo-blits.  German pronunciation again.  And I pronounce the E on Narshe as if it were a German "Narsche" (which would be better IMO).

You can clear up the pronunciation of chocobo once and for all by playing FF10, I understand (provided you trust the American voice actors).  Personally I still say it like chocolate, but swapping the last syllable for bow as in a hunter's bow.

And Sabin like cabin, not "Say, 'Bin", for me.  And Cait Sith is indeed supposed to be something along the lines of "ketchee".  Ugh.

Did anyone notice that some of the FF9 graphics have Lindblum spelt "Lindbulm"?  I'm never sure which way to pronounce it.  As for Balamb, well.  Baa-lamb?  Like a sheep?  That's how I'd say it.

And what better time to sneak in a rant.  If I ever catch you saying or writing Ragnorak instead of Ragnarok, I'm going to eat you so much.

the latter.  Again, bow as in a dog's bark (bow wow)  you don't say that in England?

my bad, it should be Kate-zal-ko-atl. Spanish people made up the spelling.     Que=kay

(the tl is done by jamming your tounge into the roof of your mouth to stop air flow.)

but i usually say Qetz.. (show's what I know eh? )
