I really love the sunken shrine in this game, the music is one of my favourite dungeon themes in the series (well I've only played about half the series so far) and helps to create a mystical atmosphere.

I should probably mention that I've only played the psp version of this game, so I don't know if the music and areas are exactly the same as in the versions covered by this site.

Anyways, what are your favourite areas in this game?

--------------------
FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV.
Spin-offs: FFIV: Interlude & The After Years, Crisis Core: FFVII, X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, and Tactics (original & WotL).
Enjoyed them all.

The site version is the same as the PSP version, except we don't have any of the five bonus dungeons. Same with the GBA versions four dungeons.

I also really like the sunken shrine. It may have helped to start an evil gaming tradition of winding, painful water dungeon crawls with serene music, but it's a very pleasant run if you know what you're doing.

Silly thing to say, but the theme in Matoya's Cave is probably still my single favorite piece of Final Fantasy series music. I don't know why. However, that said, that teeny tiny area has to be my favorite.

Plus it's got talking brooms, and those of you who notice our banner ads must understand my affection for them.

Actually, Ranger51 I was gonna say the same thing. Matoya's is the best place in the game, although I liked that old castle, too, where it was all falling apart and stuff.

Hmm, my favorite area is the final boss area. It always seemed like right before i would get to the next zone, here came a surprise for me. It's music also kept me happily tuned

I’m going to be oh so original and say Matoya’s Cave.

If we’re counting the Advance version, I’ll go with the FFV library at the Lifespring grotto. All those crazy scholars running around everywhere, lot’s of fun.

Okay this may sound weird but my favorite place for the music is any inn. I just like the swing to it, it even seems to show alcohol intoxication which I think is clever.

The place I like for the scenery and the temperment would probaly be the sky fortress. I ran amongst its ruins for so long looking for the death machine I became infatuated with the surroundings.

The Marsh Cave, if only because when the game first came out, that was the place to beat. My friends and I used to dread having to go in there with a new party.

Ugh, I hate that place.. pinch.gif

I also like the Sunken Shrine, by the way. Nice atmosphere, and really not annoying for being a water dungeon.

My favorite area is actually the volcano.

I find it quite fun to walk over lava and kill those elementals and enjoy the sunken temple.

Problem with the original that it kind of lacks a bit of a challenge, the weapons are a bit overpowered and the balance isn't really right.

I love the terra cave's theme happy.gif . Out of interest, has anybody else noticed that Mount Gulug in FF9 is a remix of it?

I always liked the temple of fiends (in the present) For being 8 bit they did a pretty good job of making it look like an ancient ruin, both outside and in.

Topic necro!

I'm going to say both the Mirage Tower and Sky Fortress combine to make my favorite area/dungeon. You start with some pretty neat treasure in the Mirage Tower (took me probably more than two playthroughs to realize some of those weapons and armor had magical capabilities!)

1) Come on, the Sky Fortress music and atmosphere was *way* different than anything else in the entire game. It was weird for weirdness sake. Yeah...you definitely don't feel like you're on the ground in some random cave like usual. Computers? Teleporters? Robots? A strange language? For a game that was in the grand scheme of things mostly traditional, the creators had some fun with this one.

2) WarMech. Doesn't get any better than that tense feeling climbing all the way to the end, worried that on that long, long, looong bridge, one chance encounter with this fella might make you throw your controller in a fit of rage as you start back at the bottom, all progress lost. It's like a cruel joke! Easily the biggest challenge for your level (if you meet this guy) you've faced in this game since the Marsh Cave.

3) That strange "window" that talks about the temple of the four fiends being at the center of the four temples always intrigued me. Hey, that means there's some reason for all of this going on! Of course, the epilogue turned out more confusing than ever, but at least it's in this dungeon you realize they did more with that ruined temple than sticking that weenie Garland in it.

I kinda have to admit my love for Matoya's Cave as well, but for the sake of keeping this just about completely original, I'm actually going to say the Peninsula of Power tongue.gif . I just can't resist when games just hand me the tools to break the experience, and to tell you the truth, if you're playing a the NES version of FFI, a little overleveling is actually kinda welcome biggrin.gif .

I would have to say fav area would be either Final Temple of Fiends (last dungeon) or Earth Cavern (where Lich is). Just the epicness of actually reving the first Orb-Crystal and then at the end of the game where you are getting ready to destroy the final boss.

I agree with everyone about the Sea Shrine's music.

That being said, I'm going with Mirage Tower/Sky Castle. They are both unique, especially the Castle... completely different than the rest of the game and a few neat things like the observatory. Tons and tons of good equipment, decent selection of enemies and you know everybody loves walking down the hall where you can bump into WarMech. Or a group of Sorcerers that can paralyze you and OHKO you.

necrobump..
I'm really enjoying the trippy/weird aspect of the bonus dungeons in Dawn of Souls.
Go down some stairs to B7 and Oops! it's a brand new world map to navigate..
It's crazy and playful, the sort of thing I'd expect from Earthbound, not a Final Fantasy. So yeah this is some fun bonus content.

My favourite bit so far is the dwarf village in WhisperWind Cove.. I'm trying to read what they're saying out loud, practising my Scottish accent..

"Ah Juist dinnae hae the pairts Ah need. Think ye could help me find thaim? "

I sound like Benhart from Dark Souls 2 but not good..

Having to go through them several times sucks though. There really is no excuse for that.

edit: omg a fairy just said "hey! listen! "

I enjoyed also the bonus content, though I haven't ever finished it all. The very devil to do a decent walkthrough for. I would guess.
