In the Final Fantasy VII walkthrough, Hojo's second form is referred to as Heretic Hojo. This is incorrect; it's Helletic Hojo. I have proof!

Sorry for sounding like such a douche, but an error is an error. XD

There are a few cases where we'll correct obvious translation errors ourselves in the site data. Sure, it's not faithful to the data in the game, but what are you gonna do? It's obviously the intended name.

Arguably, "Helletic" is more of a stretch than "Touph". Because it also contains the word "hell".

Unless there's some explicit use of the term "heretic" in the game, which I'm not aware of because I haven't played that far.

The logic went that:

Helletic is not a word
Heretic is a word
The Japanese syllables would have been indistinguishable
It IS FF7 - it's at best 50:50 whether the right words came out in English for any given element

These four things in combination gave us confidence that the change would be correct.

There are other bad translations, of course, but it's only the ones that we go blind looking at for more than a minute that we feel compelled to alter.

Well, to be honest, your logic and conclusion are probably correct.

I was just entertained by the sound of "helletic", that's all, and thus had a very slight interest in arguing for its inclusion.

I figured that as I was about to post a comment about Barret's limit 'Ungermax', listed here as 'Angermax'. It had never occurred to me before that it might have been a mistranslation, I just saw it as another made-up word like 'materia'.

I don't think its an error. And I'll give a few reasons why, even though its debatable.

'Hell' is a reference to the underworld and 'Heretic' has a similar negative implication. I don't really care for such errors, if it is an error, considering it suits Hojo all the same. He's supposed to be evil and die right? Thats all we care about, as long as the 'Fight' command isn't 'Fipht'.

Not in a strict translation, and pretty sure that's not completely relevant. Welcome back.
