So, I started my first Special Team Challenge yesterday, and I have to say that it is infinitely more fun than any of the other challenges that I have started thus far.

Granted, it's not so much of a CHALLENGE, as it is an excuse to use a specific team that you might not necessarily use on a normal playthrough.

My current STC is a Chrono Trigger team that I'm creating halfway from a FAQ I saw on GameFAQs, and half homebrewing as I go. (I tend to find the teams on GameFAQs leave a little to be desired, especially from diehard fans of the groups)

So, my question to you all is... have you ever made a special team that reflected another video game/movie/book that you'd like to share with us? I think it would be great if we could assemble our own set of Special Teams to challenge/impress each other. (or, heck, just to make each other laugh!)

--Updated: 09-12-07--

Crono: Uber-Squire (Ramza)
Guts
~TBD~ (Maybe Black Magic with only Lightning Spells? Please suggest!)
Counter
Two Hands
Move +2 (or+3)

I'm trying to go for the amazing warrior/leader/swordsman that he is in CT... even if he is the silent hero and "Yell" is ironic. >.> Counter is because I always had him counter-attacking as part of his ultimate set for Lavos.

Nadia (Marle): Archer
Charge
White Magic
Weapon Guard
Concentrate
~TBD~ (Not really sure here. I guess a standard movement+ would work. Maybe Jump+1 or +2? She was Ice in CT... so maybe something like Walk on Water?)

Archer. Healer. That about sums up Marle in CT as far as how this game can portray her. This build can make her very dangerous, potentially. Death from a distance with the ability to raise/heal everyone else. Throw on a Chantage and you'll never lose.

Glen (Frog): Knight
Battle Skill
Elemental
Blade Grasp
Maintenance
Move on Water

Formatted more for the 'Glen' persona rather than Frog, he is the ultimate knight that I could come up with. He uses a shield because he's more of a knight and more fragile as a human, methinks. He's unbreakable, nearly unhittable, and can move through water due to his amphibious times. Elemental is a reflection of his magics, more nature based since he was, yanno... a frog.

Janus (Magus): Black Mage
Black Magic
Math Skill
MA Save
MA Up
Teleport

Janus is death in 'can't see my face' form. He may look all cute like Vivi, but he'll melt you so fast you won't have time to say Ozzy's in a Pickle. This is the ultimate mage that I could think of.

Ayla: Monk
Punch Arts
Steal
A-Save
Two Swords
Ignore Height

She's sexy. She's physical. She's got the speech patterns of a 4-year-old! Ayla is one hard-hitting chica. Her bare-knuckle destruction is doubled via Two Swords, and her acrobatics and climbing abilities are accented through Ignore Height. Oh, and you wouldn't like her when she's angry thanks to A-Save putting her into a rage as she gets hit. Steal is because she could in CT, and it seems to fit with her.

Prometheus (Robo): Worker 8
Ummm. Yeah. Just rename him!

Lucca: Mechanic (Mustadio?!)
Not really sure about this one. Maybe if you could GS a new sprite in, or GS the mechanic job onto another character. Mechanic is just TOO perfect to not use for Lucca.

~~I will update this as I make changes!~~

'tis an interesting idea. Kind of reminds me of the Other World Challenge from the Challenge FAQ.

Personally, I think I'd go with the following team:

Soulcalibur 3 Team

Raphael (Knight)
Talk Skill (Select Abilities Only)
Abandon
Defend
Move +2

Astaroth (Squire)
Charge
Counter
Attack Up
Move +1

Abyss (Ninja)
Math Skill
Hamedo
Attack Up
Fly

Siegfried (Knight)
Punch Art
Weapon Guard
Two Hands
Move +1

Yoshimitsu (Samurai)
White Magic
Caution
Defense Up
Move - HP Up

Their equips would also be fairly specific:

Raphael: No shields, ever; boots only until mantles are available; no headgear.
Astaroth: Axes, always (As I consider it acceptable, I'd GS in the weakest axe for him to start with). Bracers/Gauntlets only for accessories.
Abyss: Since he's a scythe-wielding monster in Soulcalibur, I can't really equip him properly, so I'll just go with typical ninja gear.
Siegfried: Again, no shields ever; boots only until bracers/gauntlets are available; no headgear.
Yoshimitsu: As with Astaroth, I'd GS in the weakest katana for him (only weapon he'd have until the rest were available). Otherwise, standard Samurai gear, with no accessory restrictions.

Opinions?

Heh, when I first read "special team", I had a totally different idea of what this thread would be about.

There is a list somewhere online... I think I even posted it here once... of "theme" based teams. It showed you how to make an x-men team in FFT, as well as teams from several other RPG's. It's a fun idea to try for when you've exhausted most other things to do in the game.

Yeah, I got the idea from, as Suunok mentioned, the Other World FAQ on GameFAQs... but I'm making my own and doing things a little differently.

It really is quite fun. It's interesting to try to fit the characters into the setting.

And, Suunok... that is an awesome SC3 team! I'll have to try it sometime.

I made an FFVIII-party team.

Seifer: Squire (Ramza)
Black Magic (mainly the Fire spells and Flare)
Auto-Potion
Magic Defense Up
Move MP-Up

Squall: Knight
Draw Out
Hamedo
Two Hands
Move HP-Up

Zell: Monk
Item
Blade Grasp
Throw Item
Move +3

Rinoa: Ninja
Black Magic
Counter Magic
Martial Arts
Move MP-Up

Selphie: Squire
Math Skill
Abandon
Attack Up
Any Weather

Irvine: Engineer (Mustadio)
Talk Skill
Hamedo
Equip Gun
Jump +2

Quistis: Dancer
Elemental
Counter Flood
Defense Up
Any Ground

There you have it! Seifer's the coolest character in that game, so I have Ramza take his place. As for the others, I give Rinoa throw simply 'cuz of her weapon. Irvine does a lot of talking in the game, so I figured Talk Skill will be a suitable, effective secondary skill. As for Quistis, with no Blue Magic in the game, the Geomancer's Skills are a suitable and effective alternative if you ask me and with Counter Flood AND Any Ground, it's even more effective!I think s ome of the Samurai's Draw Out attacks are pretty similar in looks and effectiveness to some of Squall's Renzokuken attacks, so I make him a Knight with Draw Out. It'll also subsititue for hs lack of magic skills in FFT!

As for equips, Squall's and Seifer's gunblades are used primarily as swords in the game, so they both get Knight Swords, Squall gets the Samurai's Two Hands ability 'cuz he uses it as a two-handed weapon, whereas Seifer uses one hand for his Hyperion. Rinoa would equip the Genji Glove to boost both her attack power (she's bare-handed, hence Martial Arts) and her magic power. The rest is pretty much standard.

I'm pleased you think so, DrkAdonis. happy.gif Though from a canon point of view, there are a few issues with it... In SC3, Raphael, Abyss, and Astaroth are "evil" (quotations used as the respective evil levels are highly debatable), while Siegfried and Yoshimitsu are good (or at least, selfish/neutral). So, from that point of view, they aren't all that likely to work alongside each other.

I'll come up with another that I feel is more likely to fit with canon, and post it tomorrow, when I get off work.

Oh, I also forgot to specify which Talk Skills Raphael would have - if you hadn't guessed, they'd have to be the taunting, insulting ones - Threaten, Solution, and Insult, specifically.

There you have it! Seifer's the coolest character in that game, so I have Ramza take his place. As for the others, I give Rinoa throw simply 'cuz of her weapon. Since Selphie can't have a flail as a Priest (she won't be a mere Squire), I give her two staves instead. Irvine does a lot of talking in the game, so I figured Talk Skill will be a suitable, effective secondary skill. As for Quistis, the Dancer's cloths would be the perfect substitute for her whip, or even the Squire's flail, but a Lancer is a much cooler job and the Spear gives good range. As to why give her the Geomancer's skills? With no Blue Magic in the game, the Geomancer's Skills are a suitable and effective alternative if you ask me and with Counter Flood AND Any Ground, it's even more effective!

First of all selphie didnt have a flail she had a nantaku (nunchuck for those of you who dont know the actual name.) Which would make her more closer to a ninja or a monk. Give her the secondary skill of black magic, which would go along well with her limit. Second you should have turned mustadiou (sp?) into irvine since engineer seems closer to his actual class, that or use use mediator (or is it chemist) which has the ability to use guns. This would make it closer to his actual character. Third seifer should be a knight, instead of a squire. Seifer even though he was evil was still closer to a knight than a squire. Same with squall, he is the same kind of weapon user as seifer so he should be a knight too, give them both black magic as there second ability. Also i have no idea why you made rinoa a black mage, she is much closer again to a ninja, with a white magic secondary. Questis is fine except she needs to be either a dancer or a squire since they have weapons that are similar to hers. Keep geomancer skills on her like you said. With these job classes in place it will make the characters near perfect to there counter parts. The only other thing i can think of is see if you can't get seifer and squall to learn dual wield, and wield gun or something like that, see if you cant have a gun and a sword equiped, it would be the closest thing to a gun blade.

Touche, LockesAlterEgo. You make excellent points, and in FFT, the flail weapons (I forgot the ninja could also equip them) is the closest to her weapon. I think the Dancer's weapons are the best alternate for her whip, also, and I always saw Selphie as a White Mage more than a Black Mage 'cuz most of her limits I use are healing/supportive, mainly Full-Cure and Wall. I thought Ramza's Squire class is close enough to a Knight and some of the Samurai's Draw Out attacks could be pretty similar to some of Squall's Renzokuken attacks, so I left it at that. Equip Sword, perhaps, as they use their gunblades like swords more than guns, anyway. In my games, Irvine usually has a high HP count, and that's why I made him a Knight with Equip Gun, and the Spell Guns themselves are enough to make up his Shot Limit.

I love my Zell and Seifer set-ups, however! Thanks for the tips.

Silly me i miss read that thank you bob. Anyways like i said i'd like to do one based off the the beast wars. Still have no idea about wether maximal or predicon. It'd be a bit of a challenge to match the jobs up right, but i think it would be worth it.

I don't mean to sound rude, but doesn't touche mean "agreed"?

Anyways, this all sounds pretty cool. Something I had in mind was an FFIV team:

Cecil: Squire (Ramza)
White Magic
Weapon Guard
Defense Up
Move-MP Up

Weapon Guard and Defense Up are both there to make him feel Paladin-ish. Move-MP Up for more White Magic use. I was also considering Magic Attack Up, but without the Defense Up, it just doesn't seem right.

Kain: Lancer
Battle Skill
Counter
Attack Up
Move-HP Up

Cecil's opposite in many ways. Powerhouse, purely physical. Not much to say here.

Rosa: White Mage
Talk Skill
Counter Magic
Magic Defense Up
Move-MP Up

Main healer, with Talk Skill set at the side. I was also considering Math Skill, but, I always thought of Rosa as the negotiable type of person.

Rydia: Summoner
Black Magic
Counter Magic
Magic Attack Up
Move-MP Up

Ummm, I think this is about right. Any comments?

Edge: Ninja
Punch Art
Hamedo
Attack Up
Move-Find Item

I think I did well with this one. Any comments for this guy?

Basically the final team with some different adjustments. I know it isn't the most creative team, and probably not the most balanced, either. But this was more for fun than anything else. I might try this.

FFIVDS looks awesome, right? Especially the character scans. I mean, look at that CGI scan of Yang. You see it and you just think...badass. And then you look at his polka-dot pants, likely stolen from a Dr. Seuss book. And then you just...shiver.

Heh. I see this and it makes me laugh. Not because it's bad (it's not at all, quite perfect, actually)... but more because I see this in the future:

Cecil: Dark Knight

Heh. Yeah... makes me smile inside.

That's the whole point! This isn't so much for a challenge, it's for creativity and just for plain FUN. I find it to be very rewarding to attempt to sculpt other teams into the FFT world.

~~~Also, check the first post again, CT squad has been updated, and I have a few requests for suggestions up there too! Thanks in advance for any help!~~~
I think I'll have to give this a spin later, but as for now, I only have a few suggestions for the CT team:
Crono - I imagine you've considered having Equip Katana for support? tongue.gif As for his secondary action...I'd agree that having Black Magic with only lightning spells is about as close to Crono as you're going to get. But really, that's pretty much his whole reportoire right there -- physical attacks and bolt spells. And Ultima kinda looks like Lumina...
Marle - Move HP/MP Up, maybe? But then, those don't really connect to anything in CT. I might also give her something like Defense Up instead of Concentrate -- that rainbow dress was pretty buff on the defense, wasn't it? And I don't recall her aim being...stellar. The ice aspect could probably be covered by the appropriate crossbow...there was an ice one of those, wasn't there? Or maybe my brain is just remembering Zeakden. pinch.gif
Here's another thought -- make her a Priest with Black Magic secondary (only ice) and Equip Crossbow? It's only too bad you can't fit Haste in there somewhere. And it's still no movement...Float, maybe...?
Magus - I'd say give him Equip Spear. The man used scythes! Not dinky little tinder sticks! tongue.gif
Frog/Ayla/Robo - I got nothing here. Looks great to me. happy.gif
Lucca - While Engineer is pretty much the perfect fit, a non-GS alternative might be Chemist with Black Magic (fire only + flare)? You get the gun, the fire, and items are always handy. I've always felt Chemists are pretty far on the technical side, too. The rest though...I dunno. Counter Magic, Concentrate, and Any Ground come to mind, but those don't really have much basis in anything. And Concentrate would be useless...
The last time I played through the game I tried out these four generics:
Eltrio (aka "The Hero") (Samurai)
Throw
Blade Grasp
Magic Defense UP
Move+3
Yangus (Squire)
Battle Skill
Counter
Attack UP
Move-Find Item
Jessica (Wizard)
Math Skill
Counter Magic
Magic Attack UP
Move-MP Up
Angelo (Geomancer)
White Magic
Abandon
Defense UP
Teleport
In DQ VIII, The Hero has powerful magic attacks, can throw boomerangs, has built-in defense against special types of magic, and has a katana as his strongest weapon. Yangus equips axes and has a few attacks that bust through enemy stats, Jessica is a powerful offensive magic user with a variety of spells, and Angelo is a good physical attacker with lots of healing magic that also learns a spell to teleport out of dungeons. I think I did okay with those five.
Well, I DID think about Equip Katana... but then decided against it. I see no reason why Crono shouldn't have access to the 'big-guns' in the sword world such as Rag, etc. Plus, in CT he wasn't really only limited to Katanas... they just all kinda looked like them. lol
Quote
This is actually something I was thinking about doing, but decided against it. My reasoning being that there just AREN'T scythes in FFT in any form, and trying to emulate them would take away his maximum magic potential. I love the idea, but I don't see it as being the best way to represent him. To each their own! cool.gif
Also, thank you for the Lucca suggestion. Chemist seems to be the obvious next choice, and I agree with you fully on that!
The only thing I'm struggling with now is giving everyone some sort of magic or not. Granted, in CT they all had their own element, but I'm afraid that if you do that in FFT it will gimp out the team. I'd almost rather go for archetypes that fit the characters... such as Frog being the superknighttank, Ayla being the monk, Magus the caster, Marle the healer (ish), and Crono the pure damage dealer. That's essentially what they were in the game as well. Kinda. tongue.gif
Touche is touch in a foreign language. I think it's French. It is a fencing term that signifies a successful touch by an opponent, and thus a point. It is often used to signify that someone else has made a good point in conversation.
Please forgive me for resurrecting this ancient thread, and I'm currently working on a challenge of this type. I found a binder in which I had written out a bunch of characters I wanted to include in such a challenge, which started me on it once again. My team:
Ramza as Col. Roy Mustang (FMA)
Primary: Mediator Class
Secondary: Black Magic (Fire Magic only)
Reaction: Speed Save
Support: Half MP
Movement: Move MP-UP
Notes: No weapon.
Generic as Capt. Jack Hartigan (Sin City)
Primary: Archer Class
Secondary: Arts of War
Reaction: Critical: Restore HP
Support: Equip Gun
Movement: Move +1
Generic as Edward Elric (FMA)
Primary: Geomancer Class
Secondary: Black Magic
Reaction: Blade Grasp
Support: Martial Arts
Movement: Move +2
Generic as Charles Epps (Numb3rs)
Primary: Calculator Class (Time Mage and Oracle spells only)
Secondary: Talk Skill
Reaction: Reflexes
Support: Arcane Strength
Movement: Move +2
The fifth slot is currently open, pending an idea for a female character, and to allow for the many first chapter battles that only allow you to use three characters in addition to Ramza.
So, thoughts/suggestions?
Okay, I've got a Final Fantasy VI setup. First off, these are in the PSP translation, so I'll put the original names in parentheses.
Terra: Female Geomancer
Geomancy (Elemental)
Arithmeticks (Math Skill)
Adrenaline Rush (Speed Save)
Arcane Strength (Magic Attack Up)
Teleport / Move + 2
Terra was equally skilled at magic and physical attacking in the original game, but this setup is more of a mage's setup. The Geomancer class has above average MA and somewhat mirrors her name. Adrenaline Rush is so she can be at the front lines destroying things, with a Chantage of course.
Locke: Male Knight
Arts of War (Battle Skill)
Steal
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Dual Wield (Two Swords)
Move + 3
Locke is designed to kill things, but mirroring the original game, he also has some stealing ability. Break their stats and steal. Dual Wield cause dual-wielding Knights are awesome.
Edgar: Male Dragoon (Lancer)
Jump
Speechcraft (Talk Skill)
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Attack Boost (Attack Up)
Ignore Elevation (Ignore Height)
Edgar should just walk around and poke people with the Ultimate Javelin. I'm giving him Speechcraft (Talk Skill) for his second skill because Edgar was quite the ladies man (in his head).
Sabin: Male Monk
Martial Arts (Punch Art)
Fundaments (Basic Skill)
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Attack Boost (Attack Up)
Move + 3
Sabin destroys things. If you can't reach anybody, use Focus (Accumulate). If he's hurt, use Chakra.
Celes: Female Knight
Arts of War (Battle Skill)
Arithmeticks (Math Skill)
Adrenaline Rush (Speed Save)
Arcane Strength (Magic Attack Up)
Teleport / Move + 2
Basically the same Setup as Terra, excepting Arts of War.
Cyan: Male Samurai
Iaido (Draw Out)
Arts of War (Battle Skill)
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Arcane Strength (Magic Attack Up)
Move + 3
This time, his attacks have no charging time! This version of Cyan is better for that. I kinda like the Arts of War, so I have a tendency to give it to people. But Cyan has sort of a knightly personality.
Shadow: Male Ninja
Throw
Black Magic
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Equip Heavy Armor (Equip Armor)
Move + 3
I gave Shadow Black Magic because I can't think of anything else. I gave him Equip Heavy Armor so he stays alive longer. Feel free to change this one.
Setzer: Male Orator (Meditator)
Speechcraft (Talk Skill)
Arithmeticks (Math Skill)
Shirahadori (Blade Grasp)
Equip Heavy Armor (Equip Armor)
Move + 3
I designed Setzer to be a gambler. He's an Orator because Guns are the closest to Cards, Darts and Dice I could get. I gave him Arithmeticks for his Slot command. Now, you are supposed to use Setzer's Arithmeticks in a very specific way: Close your eyes and scroll through the lists. You might Holy all the enemies, or your entire team. Have fun.
I'm back to my old Thread Necromancy ways with this one, but it seems like the exact right place for this post.
I’ve been replaying Tactics for the 100th time (barely an exaggeration, probably), and somehow got it into my head to create generics inspired by various NPCs (that you also fight) in other Final Fantasy games. It’s a loose theme, and I’ve got a couple different versions of a couple of them, but it’s been a lot of fun to make my way through the game with these characters:
Beatrix (Knight + White Mage + Samurai)
Version 1
Art of War
White Magic
Damage Split
Arcane Defense
Move +2
Version 2
White Magic
Iaido
Shirahadori
Swiftness/Equip Sword
Move +2
Version 1 Equipment
Excalibur
Escutcheon II
Ribbon
Lordly Robe
Chantage
Version 2 Equipment
Mace of Zeus/Rune Blade
----
Ribbon
Lordly Robe
Chantage
Version 1 captures her vibes well for me (as the Paladin of the game; with Damage Split and Arcane Defense to reflect her tank-ness) while Version 2 takes creative license in reimagining her—since her Sword Arts simply do not translate accurately into Final Fantasy Tactics. I still gave her a sword in Version 2 (albeit not the Save the Queen), but it’s horrifically suboptimal, so towards the end I’ve switched her setup to the Mace of Zeus + Swiftness and let her swordsmanship be reflected by Shirahadori; and instead of the standard Sword Arts then, she gets Iaido.
Edea (Black Mage + Time Mage)
Black Magic
Time Magic
Adrenaline Rush
Swiftness
Teleport/Move +2
Equipment
Ice Rod
----
Lambent Hat
Black Robe
Tynar Rouge
Edea manipulates time, and loves to cast ice spells, so a Black Mage + Time Mage build works perfectly. Adrenaline Rush obviously isn’t an ability from either of those job classes, but it certainly fits nicely, so I added that in. FFVIII lacks tactical movement, but she seems like the sort to rock the Teleport option. [I’ve since had her snag a Thief’s crystal, which got her Move +2, which I’m fine with.]
Seymour (Summoner + Black Mage)
Summon Magic
Black Magic/Item
Magic Counter
Swiftness
Move +2
Equipment
Rod of Faith
----
Thief’s Cap/Lambent Hat
Luminous Robe
Angel Ring
Seymour is a Summoner. Full stop. Black Magic isn’t the optimal secondary ability set (and I bounce back and forth between that and Item, frankly), but in FFX he sure does love those elemental attack spells, so that’s what I defaulted to. Magic Counter felt appropriate, while Swiftness was a quality of life decision.
Gabranth (Dark Knight + Chemist)
Dark Sword
Item
Counter
Dual Wield
Move +2
Equipment
Ragnarok
Save the Queen
Grand Helm
Maximillian
Angel Ring
Gabranth and the other Judges give off a sketch vibe—and the visuals are damn-near perfect—so Dark Knight it is. He’s a dual-wielder, so that’s a no-brainer. Gabranth uses Items quite judiciously in his Trial Mode appearance, and although I considered Arts of War to reflect FFXII’s (including Gabranth’s) Technicks, it felt both more useful and accurate (since Arts of War doesn’t reflect the sorts of Technicks Gabranth actually uses) to go ahead and stick with Item. Counter reflects his no-frills, no-nonsense style [Auto-Potion was a close 2nd].
Terra.
Knight
Battle Skill
Math Skill
Weapon Guard
Magic Attack Up
Fly
FFVI came before Tactics. She feels like a true Knight and Wizard hybrid.
