Well, mcclanahan won what may be the final round of rare entries with a score of 2, one Metal Slug weapon away from a perfect score. We only had nine participants this time, so the scores were quite low overall, and two entries with more than two submissions (Pistol from prompt #1 and Z-Saber for prompt #5). Another interesting note was that every single submission for both prompt #4 and prompt #6 were unique, so if you want you can check and see what the order of submissions was by looking at either prompt at the individual statistics collection at the end of this post. Sorry for taking so long to post these, it took me a great deal of time to finish primarily because of my summer job, my weekend trips back to Charlottesville to move in to my apartment, and a general sense of panicked busyness. So now, the last set of prompts and mcclahan's winning entry:
1. Name a weapon from Metal Slug. Shotgun (2) 2. Name an Alien type in Alien vs. Predator Arcade*. Egg Chamber (1) 3. Name a double tech from Chrono Trigger. Cube Toss (1) 4. Name an item Edge can throw in Final Fantasy IV (use PSX names). Mage Masher (1) 5. Name one of Zero's weapons from Megaman Zero, parts 1, 2 and 3*. Shield Boomerang (1) 6. Name a weapon that can be equipped by a Fighter, Black Belt, or Thief in Final Fantasy I (use PSX names, no Dawn of Souls). Masamune (1) And now the stats again, same format as always. A. mcclahan - 2 B. Duo_Dragoon – 3 C. yunakitty - 4 D. SilverMaduin - 12 E. Caesar - 12 F. imperialstooge - 16 G. laszlow - 24 H. Alphasmart - 48 I. shotgunnova - 84 (1 invalid entry) Prompt 1: Pistol (F, G, H, I), Shotgun (A, D), Rocket Launcher (E), Heavy Mach. Gun (B), Flame Shot © Prompt 2: Royal Guard (F, G), Stalker (D, H), Face Hugger (C, E), Egg Chamber (A), Smasher (B) Prompt 3: Drop Kick (G), Antipode (D), Antipode 2 (E, H), Ice Water (F), Cube Toss (A), Fire Whirl (B), Falcon Hit (I), Volt Bite © Prompt 4: Engetsurin (G), Kunai (D), Kikuichimoji (E), Dark Sword (F), Mage Masher (A), Blood Sword (B), Ashura (I), Kitchen Knife (H), Shuriken © Prompt 5: Chain Rod (E, G, I), Z-Saber (B, D, H), Z-Buster (C, F), Shield Boomerang (A) Prompt 6: Mythril Hammer (G), Nunchaku (D), Battle Axe (E), Knife (F), Masamune (A), Dagger (B), Power Staff (I), Crosier (H), Sun Sword © So there you have it. I’m going to let this play through one more week, with the topic non-stickied; if it doesn’t get many participants, then we’ll put it away indefinitely. But anywho, there is still at least one more week to do, so I’ll put down mcclanahan’s prompts ASAP. Edit I forgot to disable smilies. Again. Hey, anyone interested in reviving this?
I can run the games this time around and I'll take suggestions for categories. Rules are the same except I'd considering expanding it outside videogames and allow any topic for categories. I'd be down with that. More forum games are always better. I worry about getting enough people involved, but that's what this interest check is for, right?

I enjoyed this the few times I participated, talk about a visit from the past.
While I can sometimes go weeks without visiting the site, if I remember to drop by, I'd be glad to join in. Random category ideas: Name an ingredient used in FF5's Mix command. Name a gunpod from Einhander. This post has been edited by DragonKnight Zero on 2nd January 2018 02:33 |

Didn't necessarily do much for us during Regalia, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

What if we made a tournament for each forum section, like for FFVI, VII, etc., and General Topics, Squenix gaming? Not all at one time, but one at a time, spaced out. Trivia, bracket polls, those might spark some more interest in the forum, like March Madness does each year.
I also forgot about this emoji, so I'm posting it for no reason... Unless, this could be the CoN Trivia Mascot, Sir Edward Cat! Because the emoji is cat -------------------- |

I keep wondering how that happened and concluding that it is probably a pun on how Edward (from FF4) "sucks" (metaphorically), and probably replaced a different emoticon that probably came with IPB.

Not to derail too much, but yes, GMH. We had a user, whose name I can't remember now, who was extremely irritating with spamming the cat emoji, and then we replaced it with Edward and never put it back.
Edit Tiddles, in his far greater memory than mine, has reminded me in chat that we never had a cat one, but this user kept using it anyway. So we added it, but it was never a cat. Only Edward. Always Edward. Edward Infinite. In terms of trivia, BlitzSage, I'd love to bring back the CoN quiz now that we have more ways to get users into the fold and also use Facebook for them. But I would need someone on staff to help manage that, because it's a fair bit of work, and I haven't had much interest from the general population on that score lately. Oh, I just asked why it was named cat before I read this, so disregard the other post. Would another Regalia-type bracket be easier to do? Because then we wouldn't have to collect new information, since members would be voting. -------------------- |

In terms of starting up a Rare Entries game again, it would be relatively simple to make the site run it, much the way that the site ran Regalia. It might not even need its own forum the way Regalia did. If I set that up, someone like GMH could enter the prompts and verify automatic scoring manually, and things like that, sure. In terms of other kinds of games, I keep coming back to the trivia quizzes because the way the site does those now is already pretty good. For types of games we have never done before, well, hard to tell. Spinning up another topic for other things would be welcome, as I haven't given it much thought myself. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I can probably inherit whatever spreadsheets Laszlow was using when he was running Rare Entries, or just make my own. I'd hate to have you do more work than the massive job you already did with Regalia!

Regalia was a lot of work, but all of the work I did PRIOR to the launch of it was exactly the kind of stuff I don't have time to do much of any more, so I really enjoyed it. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
