Has anybody noticed this? Endgame, the pesky clown talks about how life is meaningless and how what is built today is destroyed tomorrow, etc, and goes to destroy things himself. However, isn't he the same person who helped build the Dragon's Neck Coliseum, according to its owner? Shouldn't the coliseum be just another one of these things that built today and destroyed tomorrow? Besides, his say on that matter on how meaningless life is, seems to be pre-determined by him and not influenced by a specific party's raid on his own tower.

I wonder what you guys think of this?

That's getting into some pretty heavy assumptions based on a single line of the Coliseum owners'.

What he specifically said was "The whole world is at war, and I owe it all to Kefka."

I don't think he meant that he owes the construction of Dragon's Neck Coliseum directly to Kefka, I think he means that the warring state of the world (which is good for his monument to war's business) is generally attributable to Kefka. Also, the game strongly hints a couple of times that this guy isn't really all there, through other NPC dialogue. His brother thinks he's a bit...touched.

"Touched in the head" is an old expression for "crazy." So I don't think you're really meant to read as much into this guy's line of dialogue about thanking Kefka as you seem to be doing...

He does mention needing "help" to finish the Coliseum when you talk to him int he WoB, but this is never picked up again, you never find out who put up the gil for it, or anything. I highly doubt it was Kefka himself.

Can a guy really be that nasty, incorrigibly sadistic and just plain rude and cowardly, and be a generous benefactor of funds to somebody? That doesn't seem to make much sense. If anything, Kefka seems like he'd melt gil given the chance. He says maybe one word about money or commerce in the whole game ("She stole something of minor value"), which is saying something, because he really talks a lot. Also, he's blatantly lying when he says that, so Kefka doesn't seem the money hoarding type to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the treasures in his Tower contain gil...

Is that the SNES dialogue of the whole world at war? For me, in the Android version (which uses the GBA translation), he says "Finally the whole world is at war, and I've fulfilled my lifelong ambition of building a coliseum! I'm so happy, and I owe it all to Kefka!" Basically the same thing, but with a whole new sentence in the middle.

What made me wonder into his sentence was that in WoB, his coliseum was just a small house, and then in WoR, it grew to become the coliseum itself. With less labor (or people in general) after the end of the world happened, the decimation of the Empire in its entirety, and things, how would he get the Dragon's Neck Coliseum, how would he get Ultros as the receptionist and even keep him in debt, and Typhon as some sort of bouncer for bad items? As well as Siegfried? That's all a pretty impressive feat for the crazy man known as the owner of the coliseum. That's for one.

Secondly, the WoB during the game was a period full of wars; from an invasion on Figaro Castle and South Figaro and a war on Doma Castle, not to mention the towns that were captured beforehand by the Empire; and both sides of the conflict, the Returners and the Empire, were known to be serious players. When WoR actually came, it was a whole year with no serious resistance to Kefka ever mentioned barring Mobliz, and then that mansion in Tzen falls down. In other words, during the WoR, everyone was afraid of starting a war with one pesky clown and living in fear, and none of the remaining went to war with each other anyways. The WoB had more wars than WoR's period.

But yeah, nice point about the coliseum's owner being crazy. I think it solves everything. On why he'd mention the world being at war when in reality everyone is just obeying in fear, and why'd he owe it all to Kefka. I personally don't think Kefka would fund anyone, but what the owner said put me off. It is indeed as you say, Kefka's tower has not a single piece of stored gil; unless you count monsters.

By "I owe it all to Kefka!" I'm sure he means the destruction of the world rather than funding the coliseum. It's such a dark and depressing time that people decided to gather in a place to watch people fight each other and monsters. It's possible that the manpower to make it came from people who had no other form of entertainment, as I'm sure Kefka would just zap them with the Light of Judgment if they tried to have a ball or something, so why not build something that Kefka was more likely to put up with and not obliterate? I mean, nothing bad happens to the coliseum, unlike the opera house, which has a dragon infestation.

I have to agree with Spooniest about Kefka not really caring about money; he seems more interested in shiny things he can put in his hair (I'm pretty sure every piece of concept art has him wearing some sort of colorful baubles in his hair), which gil is not likely useful for.

It might also be likely that he's owing it all to Kefka because he never looked at the Coliseum and decided "Light of Judgement time", most likely due to the reasons you mentioned, that the coliseum is all about fighting, something Kefka used to be a big part of, if only as a wimpy sort-of general who's powerless half the time (up until the final battle...)

Speaking of the opera house, I wonder for how long the dragon that invaded it was in there, and since when.

As for Kefka's Tower, is there any other final dungeon in any other Final Fantasy that includes stored gil? It might not be because Kefka is not a lover of gil but maybe because of Final Fantasy game design, since by end-game you probably had all the money to buy all what you could.

What? He's not the toughest, but I'd hardly call him powerless. There's a reason his troops are afraid of him. And might I add that he must run very fast, as he outran Sabin multiple times while wearing heels...

I would guess that it's been there at least since Jidoor was accessible by the player.

I'd have to do some research on that, I have no idea ohmy.gif

More like they're afraid of his power as the position of Gesthal's court mage... its also the same position that allowed him to mind control Terra and fry 50 Imperials. If anything, I see that Kefka is feared because he could turn you into a lab rat, and not because he's physically powerful, and before the end of the world, he only stood up for real in one fight or two if I remember, running from or doing nothing at all in the rest.

To me, that's hardly a display of strength in kicking the butts of whoever who oppose him. He might be fast, but that could be because of his nature as a half-coward for running away from most battles. Plus not to mention that during this time, Kefka was on a hurry to poison Doma, and before General Leo could come back.

Physically speaking, Kefka is a wimp. He's 5'4, (he's literally he shortest male in the game) 105lbs, and clearly not very muscular.
That being said, his soldiers probably fear him because of his magic. That if they defy him or even question him, they could very well end up boiled alive in their own juices, because at that time, he's one of three people who can use magic, and likely has the highest level magic.
I mentioned his running speed whilst wearing heels because it does take good leg strength to outrun someone like Sabin, especially in those heeled boots he favors.

Gau is 5'3 an Strago is 4'11 I believe.

Gau is also 5'4, like Kefka, but I tend to count him as taller since he's only 13 and has a lot of growing to do. Terra and Relm are the only ones shorter than Kefka, from what I remember.

Is Strago that short? I always remembered him as being taller...
My mistake. Aside from Strago, he's the shortest male.

If we go by magic at all, that doesn't really fit well with General Celes. She has magic and she was a general, the one who attacked Maranda, but none of the soldiers feared her because of her magic, in fact they restrained her even when she could've burnt them to a crisp herself with little fear.

Its got to be the position of Kefka as Gestahl's right hand man which allows him to get the greenlight on taking away soldiers' lifes for the excuse of experiments, that makes him feared among the Imperials, and they're afraid of him for actually being turned later into these very lab rats.

Okay, we need a little backstory on these 50 Imperials, that would help matters a lot.

The difference between Kefka and Celes is that Kefka is much more volatile; Celes is much less likely to kill someone over something minor.
Besides that, Celes might well have been too weak to hurt much of anyone when she was imprisoned.
