CoN Euro 2016: http://narshe.me/1TQo6Mg
Because we are more diverse a group than simple JRPG gamers, we do sometimes have our CoN games based on sports. Every year we do CoNCAA, of course, but every other year we've got a major soccer tournament with which to play as well. Two years ago we ran a game for the 2014 World Cup, won by Neal, and two years before that it was for the 2012 European cup, won by Gigantuar. The Euros have come back around now, starting on June 10, and as such so has our game! This is a "predictor league," in which you score points by guessing the results of matches and what player scores first. It's easy to do, and you can use the match randomizer to take wild stabs at guesses without knowing the first thing about soccer. You can see the game's rules for more information, but the short version is that you start by picking a team that you think will win it all, and then by picking the results of individual matches up to 5 minutes before scheduled kickoff. You can even pick the results of the first 36 matches right away, so you can fire and forget until the knockout round begins! If you're curious, click the link above. If you've got questions or want tips on who to pick, or want to chat about the matches, here or in chat are always good spots. Good luck! And don't pick Iceland! -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I won the 2014 World Cup? I am so good at soccer. You might call me the Rory Delap of CoN predictor leagues.

In unrelated news, Coutinho probably just became worth about Ł60MM to Barca or Real. I mean, I know it was just Haiti, but still.
In RELATED news, today's the last full day before kickoff. Make sure you've gotten your champion pick in as well as at least the first game. If you have questions, I'll be available for most of the time either here or in chat. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I'M HERE, I'M IN, I MADE IT. I'll take another Euro Second Place finish, please. Let every game begin with an own goal for maximum hilarity.
Also, Forza Azzurri. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

A pretty tight grouping of scores for the very first game, with 3 the maximum. As a bit of a note, especially for those of us playing from North America - the first game tomorrow starts at 8:30AM Eastern time, so for tomorrow and probably both weekends of group play, you'll likely want to make sure your picks are in before you hit bed tonight.

Group play just ended, and I have knocked out the teams that won't go forward. There's a couple important things to note here:
1. I can only add one group of games at a time to the system now, because obviously we don't know who will play whom until each around is complete. I will add the round of 16 games tonight or tomorrow and will post again when they're able to be picked. 2. Don't miss rounds, because the scores double now that we're in the knockout rounds. 3. Penalties DO NOT COUNT for scores in the knockout rounds. If you think a game will go to penalties, you pick the tie score after 120 minutes, and pick the country you think will win after penalties. 4. There's an error in the champion bonus scoring, because I have in there a bonus for winning the third place game. There is no third place game in the Euros, so if your champion pick loses in the semifinals, you'll get five points. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Here's that double post. The picks can be made now for the round of 16, and the first match of that round is Saturday (morning if you're in the US, afternoon if you're in Europe).

I've much disdain for football but one thing that makes it all worse is how quickly the rabid barbarian countrymen of mine turn on their own team.
The wider political context makes it even worse. It's just a game lads wheyyyy *smashes up a cafe* -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Gears: They look charmed, that's for sure. Helps, of course, that they've played very little but underperforming teams so far, but they've certainly blown everyone's minds.
Blinge: Frankly, your team deserve being turned on today. Well, maybe not to the point of hooliganism, though I haven't heard anything about that happening over there (in my few hours awake yet today). Everyone else, quarterfinal picks were set up last night. The quarterfinals happen on consecutive days starting on Thursday, so make your picks now. Been following Copa America as well as the European championships.
I hear that England's manager is paid a salary in the millions, while Iceland's manager is a part-time dentist. In any case, thanks to the political context I think a lot of people feel quite gratified at Iceland...
