Loss of Me came from behind late to sneak past Temple of Chaos previously, while The Gapra Whitewood, while polarizing to some in the commentariat, was never really in danger of a late rally by Within the Giant from FF4.
Loss of Me from Final Fantasy IX comes in as a strong #3 seed, one of the two FF9 tracks to start so high but a step down from its #2 seed in 2010. Back then, it won two rounds before being blown out by Fight 2 from Final Fantasy IV. Also known as "Rose of May," this piano-heavy tune is closely tied to Beatrix' growth and is often referred to as her character theme, though it's not as explicitly defined as such within the scope of the game. The Final Fantasy XIII series has a number of ethereal, more ambient tracks, one of the significant changes brought to the series by Masashi Hamauzu. This is one, in which staccato drums and light, abstract vocals connect this track to the environment in-game. |

The Gapra Whitewood is very pleasant-sounding, but being forced to choose means that I have to pay attention to what I feel is a lack of a sense of direction. Overall it just sorta settles into that later-track sequence with the one G minor 13th chord but sorta just sits there for a while.
Thus my vote goes to Loss of Me. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. TMNT 3: Radical Rescue tabled: Lost Ruins |

I've said it before, Gapra Whitewood is objectively terrible. Please let it die.
