i just got ff iv ds, and im finding myself actually having to grind, just to get by. in ff iv advance, i took on evil wall at 25 and did just fine. im at level 25 right now, and i cant even beat the first form of dark elf. and dont even get me started about the cecil goblin minigame. i really hate that game, because it gets ridiculously hard after you hit 5000 points. i average at about 6000-7000, my high score is 8135. i cannot get anywhere close to 9999. but yeah, is it just me, or is this game much harder?

Its not just you, I also have found it much more difficult. I think the idea was to make the game much more strategy based than power level heavy. I have found a balance of the two seems to work. I tend to use the forest next to Mount ordeals as the sole training ground. If you fight all the other random battles you should be doing fairly well. I tend to level till at least 32 there

after the paladin transformation
. From then on you should be good. However on the second and third run through I have found that it gets a little easier. The problem is if you use the augment for no encounters you tend to abuse it and not get the levels you need. Again though strategy seems to be key, but yeah tougher.
Also a lot of guides recommend insane levels for the final fight but i didn't have a hard time beating it 15 levels lower than what they recommended. I think a lot of it is in the augments.

Over all, this game is considerably more difficult than some of the previous incarnations, yes, it's not just you. Still, I'm glad for it. The GBA port was absurdly watered down and far too easy to get through. I'm happy with unreasonably difficult games because it means you actually have to work a bit to get things done.

the first version of ff4was supposed to be difficult, and then ff4 advanced was made to be much easier, and for ff4 ds they decided o make the game moe difficult like the first version, and i think its alright, but im up to the tower of babil right now and my characters are about lv 35 each, when at the ed of the game on ff4 advanced my characters where level 40-41, it is a lot more difficult, these levels are because i decided to sit around and train thinking it was needed. btw hate the tower of babil might not try to get through it yet might just train up for now AGAIN.

Like everyone said, it is much harder.

My character's were around level 60 when we went to the Cave of Bahamut (Now called, like, Lair of the Father, or something like that), and we had trouble there. The mages would single-target a character with an -aga spell and kill them.
