Searching for Friends is likely better known as the overworld theme for the World of Ruin in Final Fantasy VI, with its title made obvious to anyone who has completed that game. Most people reading this probably already have its melody in their heads, with hours upon hours spent hearing it over the years. It won a couple matchups last time before falling to Cyan's Theme in round 3.
Crazy Motorcycle Chase is probably immediately recognizable in the same way to players of Final Fantasy VII - it's exactly what it says on the tin, the frenetic theme played as Cloud protects the party in a minigame on a bike, in an escape from Shin-Ra. It's new to the brackets this time around. |

I always loved Searching for Friends. When you come across your party members one by one, you find that hope in a dead world. The change from the haunting organ to the jammin flute makes for a great time.

I like Crazy Motorcycle Chase; it's definitely a fun track that serves that particular scene well, but it's ultimately a bit shallow. Searching for Friends hits you in the feelz and sticks with you forever. I'm surprised it isn't seeded higher.

Quote (Gabe @ 9th November 2017 16:48) I always loved Searching for Friends. When you come across your party members one by one, you find that hope in a dead world. The change from the haunting organ to the jammin flute makes for a great time. Ultimately this. Again, young Greg would've touted the laurels of all things FFVII, but yeah, the hope this song tries to instill you with in the bleak world is nice. -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! On first thought I figured I'd go for Searching for Friends, because I never really enjoyed nor saw the appeal of the motorcycle minigame in FF7. But listening to the track made me consider how effectively Uematsu uses the (oddly brass-heavy) instrument-set he choose for FFVII. It's a pretty darn good track and I'm feeling why people like it.
On the other hand, I'm listening to Searching for Friends, and...I'm swearing I've heard a deeper bass line in it before! But I can't hear it for some reason, it's just never coming in...I've tried listening to the GBA version too and it's largely the same. Something just feels missing here. On the other hand, the tapping noise is a rather interesting addition to the track, though I've never figured out what it adds. Anyway, in-game, it definitely adds a sense of hope to the World of Ruin, though I was always a little conflicted as to whether it was appropriate that it replaced the Ruined World theme permanently in much of the World of Ruin, instead replacing it with a "gentle sunset" theme and causing me to have a much softer memory of the World of Ruin than I otherwise might have. I might just wait for a few more responses here before voting. Edit: Thought about it and, on the basis of the music alone, I'll give it to Crazy Motorcycle Chase. On the basis of the games, I'd vote FFVI in a heartbeat, but this is a vote on the music.
