K in the strategy guide on this site it says the ultimate weapon has 100,000hp, but that can't be right. I went into round 2 and one-hit killed him with Nanaki's Stardust Ray limit, hitting for 1000 at a time and though I can't count the hits fast enough, I figure it to be somewhere between 10 and 15 (but definitely not 100) so it only did about 10,000hp. Even if damage from round one rolled over onto round two, I highly doubt I did 90,000 damage with only using 2 of the bahamuts in round one. There's no way it has 100,000hp.

I was really looking forward to using my recently obtained omnislash on it too.

I don't know what to tell you, really, but a quick search of other guides around the web show that the majority of them agree with what we have on the site. Also, though I don't remember exactly clearly since we did the data entry for that section over four years ago, I believe we got all the enemy data straight from a ROM dump of the PC version.

In short, I can't speak for what you did or did not see as I wasn't there, but I don't see any compelling evidence to change the site data as yet. If you can provide some, by all means do, we'd be happy to review it.

Moved to Errors and Troubleshooting.

I probably have a save file around this area from when I was working on FF7 stuff for the site. I can look into it this weekend.

I had a similar discussion with a friend of mine regarding Sephiroth, when I beat him with little more than a single Omnislash. He insisted Seph's hp was like 10x what an Omnislash did, so my next file I paused after each turn and kept a detailed log of my actions- the battle was Neo Bahamut, Bahamut Zero, Omnislash, shadow flare, done. (not counting healing and Seph's attacks) I imagine someone with knights of the round, w-summon and mimic could drop Sephiroth like a random battle in disc 3 Midgar. I've never had any of those except I think mimic once, only made a gold chocobo in one file. Never really liked the breeding, takes way too long. You only need that stuff if your gonna fight the other Weapons though.

Anyway, this Weapon fight went as follows:
Nanaki, cure3 on self (wounded from round one)
Cloud, regen all
Barret, haste all (love that combo)
Ultima Weapon: some attack, I forget what
Nanaki, summon Baha- oh wait his limit's up, screw Bahamut use stardust ray
Ultima weapon, shadow flare on Nanaki
Nanaki and Ultima both die.

I think strategy guides in general overstate all hp in ff7.

Maybe they beefed him up for the PC and he was weaker on ps1? That's the version I'm playing.

Perhaps, actually. If Ultima Weapon can be sensed, then I'll confirm his HP via screenshot.

I don't believe that's the case, Galhar, and in any event the other guides I looked for when researching this were labeled as being for the PC version. We'll check it out, though.

Also, please use the edit function rather than posting twice in a row like that. Thanks!

100,000 might be his HP overall, and whatever you damage him by continues into each battle. In other words, you took his HP down to less than 12,000 or so in the chase battles, then killed him in the finale. I don't now for sure though.

Ultima does have 100,000 HP, and the damage done everytime carries into each round.

Checked with Hojo.

See, we're not idiots. smile.gif

I did check Leviathan over the weekend and it didn't have the info. Hadn't circled back around to check more sources.

Thanks!

Is there a remote possibility that every time I fought him without triggering round 2- the six times I merely chased him back into flying around without him going to Cosmo- that the damage from those fights rolled over? If all those battles plus the final one added up to 100,000 that would make sense.

I started a new game file because of things I found on this site that I missed last week, so I'll pay closer attention to damage dealt this time. I'll do like I did with the final battle a few years ago, pause after every hit to write down the damage and add it up, although limits like stardust ray are too fast to be more than a guess unless one of you guys has something from the rom dump or whatever that actually says exactly how many hits it is.

I just fought it again in a new file, and I kept a log this time and added it up. I had to fight him 5 times before he'd land for what I'd been calling 'round 2', and all 6 battles added up to just over 100,000 hp. That's why I was so sure it was less, because I had definitely not done that much damage in the last attempt. I believe now you have to fight him 5 times before he'll land, and damage dealt during all attempts to fight him rolls over. The 100,000 doesn't need to be dealt in one fight, but spread out over several. I think that should get mentioned in the strategy guide. Merely stating 100,000 makes the battle sound a lot harder than it is, and you only mentioned the need for 2 battles. I believed I only needed the two and was frustrated every time he wouldn't go to Cosmo. If it instead said that you must deal a certain amount of damage before he'll go to Cosmo and it can take multiple battles to get there then I would have expected what happened and I think that would have been more helpful.

AG I just went back and read the guide again, it DID say that but I didn't catch it's meaning. Great, now I feel like an idiot. I went to all that to prove what your guide already said.
