The ones on the main site. Used to like doing them!

It was a hard thing to keep going from a perspective of user engagement versus the time it took to set them up, honestly. I'm not sure if we just weren't marketing them to our users well enough or if you're in a minority who actually found them interesting, but we just couldn't keep them on the front burner when we didn't see most of our users getting a better experience from having them.

That's fair enough. Maybe I was the only one doing them towards the end, haha. I usually come straight to the forums bypassing the main site, maybe other people are the same as you'd only see there was a new quiz if you went to the main page.

Quizzes? Like what?

There were FF and Square-based quizzes on the site that were set up in a competition. I'm not sure, but I believe there were prizes.

The section's a little broken because apparently I didn't fully port it over to Skyglade (which goes to show you how long it's been since they were shut down, and this is the first thread asking about it).

Fake Edit: Apparently they actually ran all the way to the end of 2012, which is about a year longer than I thought. Perhaps I should fix that Skyglade issue today.

We did prizes a couple times. It wasn't an ongoing thing, because to have prizes regularly would imply that there is revenue to fund them. smile.gif

Yeah, that was always part of the problem. It was difficult to show the presence of a new quiz in the forums (without being spammy) or on social media (because the big social sites we use made that difficult at the time through their APIs).

The numbers of people doing them, now that I've had occasion to run some numbers on it, weren't abysmal, but they weren't really attracting anyone but a core group by the end. I'd be thrilled to have them again, honestly, if for no other reason than the fact that (IMHO) Tiddles and I built a really neat system to run them and it sucks to see it go to waste. smile.gif

If anyone has suggestions for making them more popular so that it doesn't seem like such a burden to run them, I'm all ears!

I might have a think and see if I can come up with any ideas. That said, I'd rather not run them, because I enjoyed doing them as much as Blitz. I must have been the other quizzer, haha.

I was the former Quiz-caretaker, and yes, what Josh said earlier is pretty much how it happened. I think there were probably about a dozen people who took a quiz in any given month, but it was somewhat invisible to the forums / social media sites, which made the system feel a bit irrelevant.

That said, if enough people are interested in doing them again and Josh is able to finagle some form of integration with dem social medias, I would be happy to return to the role.

In all honesty, it sounds interesting. I'd like to try my hand at them.

I was always terrible at them. But then again, I'm bad at the World Cup and March Madness, but they're still fun.

I remember the quizzes being around, I think, but I hadn't played any of the games they covered at the time. I have now, so I throw my vote in too.

I kind of like quizzes in general, but if it's not convenient for you to get them working again, I'm okay with that. It does sound fun, though.

Obviously I don't want them back if they're more trouble than they're worth either, but I'm willing to help with them if I can in any way.

I appreciate the feedback, guys. I definitely don't want to keep features away from the users that the users like, and they're not really more trouble than they're worth - I do think I'd want to bring someone in whose sole job would be to create questions, though, and that person obviously wouldn't be allowed to play the quizzes themselves.

If we could get that as well as me coming up with a good way to making them more accessible to users off the site, I think we'd have a winner for sure.

How about custom user titles or forum awards as prizes? Would be a low-cost way to do prizes, and would engage forumgoers.

Since I'm rarely around these days, YMMV as far as my response goes here, but custom titles would draw me for sure.
