Caves of Narshe Forums > News > Final Fantasy Ultimania Coming West

The Final Fantasy "Ultimania" guides have been lore for Western Final Fantasy fans for many years; I remember first hearing about their existence twenty years ago, but I've never seen one in person. Finally, though, those of us who want to see these guides in a format we can actually read ourselves - not you, smug Japanese-knowing CoN fans! - will get a chance to own them in English.

Next June, Dark Horse and Square Enix will release a 300+ page archive of Ultimania guides covering the first six games of the series in a hardbound edition. It's expected to be the first of three volumes encapsulating the entire series. Amazon, at least in the US, has it listed for just $34 currently, and I know I have already preordered my copy.

You hero.

Done. Bizarrely, it's listed on the UK Amazon site (same release date), but as currently unavailable. Not sure if that's because they haven't set it live yet, or because all stocks have already been reserved. Either way, I've punted for the US option to avoid disappointment.

A real hero would have posted first and THEN preordered. I'm lawful neutral at best.

Legend! It seems to be $24 now, just pre ordered myself a copy.

Wow, thank goodness for the preorder price guarantee! My preorder now lists as $10 cheaper than when I bought and posted originally.

So very into this!

For some reason, E3 made me think about this again. I just checked, and the price is at just $28 right now, and it's out in about six weeks. Good time to get your copy ordered, see the link in the first post.

Good that you asked! The second volume, with 7, 8, and 9 is apparently coming in November.

I just got an email saying that my copy of the first volume has been upgraded to release-day delivery, so I should have my copy in about a week and a half. Hope the same for you guys!

For folks who don't follow us on social media, my kid wanted to do an unboxing video for our copy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HNRcJ4tUf4

Am I mistaken or does the FFVII Ultimania contain a spinoff novel?

Are you referring to the original FFVII Ultimania or the anniversary version that's going to include like VII - IX?

Also Rangers, your girl did a really cute unboxing video lol

Really cute video, Rangers! I gave it a like on YouTube. The book looks fantastic and I wish I had the money to get it.

Just announced last night, the third and final volume. It's releasing next April.

My preorder of volume 2 just landed at my door a few minutes ago, for you other folks who have ordered it. I haven't opened it yet, but anyone else who preordered should be on the lookout.

I also caved and preordered the third volume earlier this week too. The second volume dropped so much in price between announcement and shipping that I kind of assume the third volume will do the same, which will make it a pretty affordable pickup in April.

I've got a delivery window of between 8th January and 4th of February for mine. :/

Mine will apparently turn up tomorrow. And yeah, I've pre-ordered vol 3 too...

Did you preorder yours from the UK or US Amazon?

Posted by: Stiltzkin 25th December 2018 11:31
UK. It's been delivered now too, to my neighbour at least!

Posted by: Rangers51 10th June 2019 19:41
I got the shipment notification last night that I should expect the final volume to arrive tomorrow. Anyone else end up getting it?

Posted by: Cefca 11th June 2019 13:56
Mine came today, still reading through the second book. laugh.gif

I haven't actually read any of them yet. But that's pretty SOP for me, ha.
