Oooo.... Tough topic.
I'd have to say CT is very high up there, but not my #1. Here are a few games that would rank as #1, but I can't choose just one of them. Tales of Phantasia (Awsome game, great story, fun battle system, just all around cool!) Final Fantasy IV (Final Fantasy IV is what got me into RPGs in the first place. Played a litte Dragon Warrior before hand, but FFIV will always be my first love, and will always rank high up for me.) Dragon Quest 6 (Very sweet game, fun game play, hours of entertainment, very unique class system. Loved the game. I just wish Dragon Quest 5 hadn't frozen on me half way through the game!!!!) -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

Super Moogle (Or SM, as you might want to be called), nice. Never thought about it that way. Still doesn't keep me from loving that ToP, but you make some excellent points.
I must certainly say that Chrono Trigger was a very excellent game. But I wouldn't call it best. Hahaha, it's funny how this thread wound up being a mostly a bunch of people saying that it was good but not the best. When you bring up a topic like this, your absolutely bound to get people thinking of something else. BTW, my personal favorite is FFVI. But's not like I don't think that CT isn't rad. Oh, and since forum is under Other Square Games, I guess you can't add Tales of Phantasia to it. |

Well, chrono trigger rocks, but i like ff6 best, it has a better story, and also it kept me busy longer than chrono trigger. My number one is super metroid.

chrono trigger is one of those rare games that gets better every time that you play it. i definitely put it in my top 5, but not necessarily number 1.

I'm all for people having their own opinions, but it's extremely rude to criticise others' (though I grant you, I probably get mad enough to do it myself when people say FF8 is best-of-series ). Besides which, Chrono Trigger ISN'T a 3D game... so I'm not exactly sure what your point is.
I've been playing games since the SNES era. So no, I'm not hardcore and old school, but I remember a 2D time, and I remember thinking that games, by and large, were better then. But my favourite FF is FF7, my favourite GTA is GTA3 or VC, two of my favourite games are Starfox 64 and Deus Ex, and I've played a good deal of enjoyable 3D games all round. Don't assume that this being an FF6 site (which it isn't just, really) means it's full of FF6 zealots. Most of the staff seem to regard either FF7 or FF Tactics as best-of-series. I can understand a dislike of 3D games and a strong personal preference, but please, don't make out that other people's opinions are wrong. |

Sorry, I do get carried away on that subject. I should withstrain myself. My purpose was not to Insult, but rather to draw attention to all those good 2D games that have been forgotten. I truely am sorry that I offended anyone; like I said I do get carried away on that subject.
My Apologies    Iain Peregrine PS If Crono Trigger is not 3D, then I must be thinking of Crono Cross. Sorry again. |

CT was sweet as hell (characters, story, gameplay, music were all great) but FF6 beats all those qualities in every way shape and form. particularly characters (SETZER) and music, me being a musician, the music is my favorite part of the game

Just to clarify it, this is my list currently.
1. Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantsay VI (Tactics doesn't really count as an RPG, but I really like it better than FFVI, but it is a proper RPG) 2. Final Fantasy VIII 3. Chrono Trigger 4. Legend of Dragoon 5. Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis (not a true RPG either, but it's really fun) -------------------- Nine-hundred ninety-nine billion nine-hundered ninety-nine million nine-hundred ninety-nine thousand nine-hundred ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall... |

Best Game ever, I dunno. It's really hard to Compare Chrono to the Final fAntasy Series. Kinda like Apples and Oranges.
I think the game deserves recognition for being one of a kind, especially when it was released. The sequel however sadly disappointed me. I expected soo much more. Oh well. I'll get over it... :goes and wallows in sorrow: -------------------- "You see Timmy, you can't take every thing as a life and death situation, 'cause you'll die a lot of times" -Van Wilder |

I don't know about greatest game of all time. There are many more genres of games. Greatest RPG...it's a toughie. You can't really compare FF9 or FF7 to CT. The times where so much diffrent, techie wise and mere limits. I mean there's swearing in PSX games. Not is the Snes, so it makes the dialoge weaker in Snes games. But regardless, it's one of the best RPGs, a super contender for classic Snes games and Square's best games.
If there was a Japanese member, he'd say diffrently. CT was considered the 'Dream Project' with HUGE animation and techie names creating the game. DBZ fans might recognize Crono as a near body double for Goku. Also, Magus has the HUGE maiden's peak like Vegeta. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. I can't say what the best COMPUTER game ever is, although Chrono Trigger is mighty high in my rankings. The best game I ever played is CYBERPUNK RPG - no competition.
P.S. I've yet to play Tales of Phantasia - what's it about? -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark.
