Here is what we need to make your fanart submission as quick as possible:

1. Images: We need an image from you, of course. Post it in your thread, or link to it. We'd love to have a thumbnail at 100px tall/wide, too, if you have it - the thumbnail must be PNG, though. If you can't do that, don't worry, because we'll make one for you.

2. Artist Info:
Your preferred name (The name you want to be called in the fanart gallery);
Your email address;
Your URL if you have a site and want us to link to it;
Media Used (can be as simple or detailed as you like);
Filesize, in pixels and kilobytes, of the full size image.

Doing this will get your art on the site faster than ever. Assuming our fanart managers can get to it. smile.gif

I am teaching myself how to draw. Maybe in the far, far future I will submit some things here. I was just wondering about a few things:

1. I am curious as to why you would need the URL if an artist had one. I don't have a website just wondering.

2. Why just PNG? I read a few months ago that not everybody has the ability to read that format. Aren't JPEG and GIF also web accepable formats? They are more popular to my knowlege.

3.What do you mean by preferred name? We do have usernames here. I don't think allot of people feel safe with their real name on the internet.

I might have more questions latter but I can't think of any at the moment.

1. I am curious as to why you would need the URL if an artist had one. I don't have a website just wondering.
Because many artists do have websites, and they use the websites as a gallery for all their art, not just what they submit to CoN. What if you saw an artist and liked their style, and wanted to see more? Perhaps you could email - or, you could just go straight to their link and see their site. These artists want their art to be seen, or else they wouldn't submit it, so why not make it easy for people to see more?

That's simply worded poorly. Your full size art can be any web-safe format. If you're submitting your own thumbnail, that should be PNG for technical reasons required by the fanart spotlight - if you can't make a PNG thumbnail, don't bother, is all I was trying to say there. I'll edit it to be more clear. Anyone using any sort of decent image program should be able to save as PNG, and if you are referring to browsers not supporting PNG, well, time to get a real browser if that's still a problem for you. smile.gif

It doesn't say real name, though, it says preferred name. Some people submit art who don't belong to the forums, or they use a different name on the CoN forums than on other forums or websites. It's meant to be a convenience to the artist - again, since they're nice enough to let us display their art, why not try to be helpful to them?

Hope that helps.

Further PNG clarification: IE doesn't support alpha transparency in PNGs, but that's rarely a problem for artwork, and it's not like there's an alternative format IE can use that has such a feature.

It's the recommended format because it's lossless. With GIF, you're limited to 256 colours, and with JPEG you end up with either a pretty large file or a pretty washed-out looking image because of the compression. PNG's compression doesn't cause such corruption.

iirc, IE doesn't support the alpha layer of png. However, the proper set of png options does allow you to have a single transparent pixel that IE does support.

No beautiful blending effects, but at least it works.

Yeah, that's why I said alpha transparency rather than palette transparency. Alternatively, you can make your image with alpha and set the bKGD chunk to a fallback colour that won't look too out-of-place with the page background when IE is used. The Firefox "Take Back the Web" button on our site pages is done with a white bKGD; you can only tell the difference between IE and other browsers if you change to a skin with a non-white background.

Nevertheless: it's not something you're likely to be worrying about for fanart submissions.

I have a question! I'm hopeless with putting pics on the internet, in fact, i'm hopeless at getting them on the computer in the first place! Could you try to help me with this? If it's saved on something like a folder, how do I get it on the Web?

When you post in My Creations or Site Submissions, there's a place where you can upload a picture/add an attachment. Hit browse, look for your folder (it'll open the folders on your HD) and double click on your file. Then post, and you have something in the forums.

For the internet in general, that's more complicated to explain, and I'll leave that to someone else.

Thank you so much for answering my question! I got it up, but now I don't know if my computer is messing it up, or the picture itself is messed up...

I've never posted an image in CON so I'm wondering, when ye use the attachment option to post a pic, what actually happens? I tried attaching something there and previewed, but nothin' seemed to happen...

Edit
Guess I may have found a way to post images here so...nvm.

If you already have art in our gallery and you want to have links to your website in your pieces here, you can PM me and I can do it. But we only do that for images that we also host.

If you are submitting art, put the link in your post.

If you want us to go through your gallery and select things to host, that's fine too, but we're going to be a bit slower about that until we finally get around to building our new system. I'd PM me about that too, I guess.

My question is about the email address request. Can I ask for an anonymous when it comes to an email address?

These guidelines are about to become nothing anyway, hopefully quite soon. Just a thought. smile.gif
