I'm playing it after ditching it a few times, and i'm finding it a lot easier than it was the first time i played.I'm making good progress in the cave of octomann the second boss.

I'm also really liking the ds.I was already a big fan of ff4 since it came out on snes.

Also:YES!! they kept in the spoony bard line.

Is there anyone who takes satisfaction at the abuse edward takes? I don't mind the character, but its just funny to watch him cry and get slapped by cecil.

I'm currently playing the GBA version and find it easier than the DS version. I had difficulties with the DS version at times. On the plus side, the DS has some great voice acting.

The DS version isn't very difficult if you set the speed to the standard, but if you ratchet up the battle speed it gets considerably more challenging. I had it at max speed for most of my time with the DS version, but I had to set it back down during the Path to the Core. Couldn't handle all those dragons at top speed.

I just played it recently for the first time, on the DS. I wouldn't say it was hard, but it definitely took a lot of grinding. I entered the Lunar Core with everyone level 65-70 but I had to get everyone over 80 before I could beat Zeromus. I killed so many dragons that week.

And I also have to agree with magitek_slayer about enjoying Edward's sadness. Just, from the second I saw him, I wanted him gone. And then

I was kind of satisfied about the whole thing. Am I a bad person?

I think part of it was the frustration on how weak edward was.He was useful though, because in the original game, i never had so much trouble with skeletons. Now they cast spells and it kinda hurts by the time you get there, and they are very fast.In 1 hit he dies when you get him, and even at level 15, he gets hit hard and almost died to the antlion.

I find i am grinding a lot more than in the original for gold.I'm not sure if its me, or that enemies drop less gold, requiring far more farming to get the gear i need.

Ok new news:It would have been improbable to beat the boss without at least thundara and reflect. The bosses throw tons more spells like reflect and silence mini and sleep.

Its a fair bit more challenging.
Baigan was ridiculously easy.Maybe i was overleveled, or maybe not.I don't know.I got characters level 25, and i still can't afford to get the armor i want, and new armor for yang and the rest of the team.

Cagnasso (or whatever, the water dud) was a pain at first, because i didn't know about the little thunder trick to get his water barrier down to stop him from using Tsunami.

He is pretty easy now.

Also the fire dud (so long since i played this game, forgive me) was so hard untill i found out about the neat steal trick to close his cloak to stop him using his crazy-ass spells or whatever he had.

You know:I think tellah is an awesome character. Its actually too bad his stats are so awful.

On top of that:Clad in black gets me all hyped u for the fight.Tellah is a pretty awful in mp, and the first time its a pain to fight bosses.

I'm sure to over level by the time i reach the underworld. No way can i avoid being under level 40 before getting the extra gil augment.

Of course, you can lower the battle speed if things are getting too rough for you...

But I found it to be a palatable experience, and a quality piece of software.

The music in particular was well done, and I agree with someone or other about the voice acting.

And yah Edward is a whiny little bitch. But so were we, or at least I'm assuming we are supposed to have been and that's why the character is included. Really, he's just a way of stretching out the game for a while while they thought up some better bits. You notice the game really picks up once Edward is out of your party.

The first part of the game is slow anyway for me, because i've played so many times. But yes, it picks up after you get rid of edward and get people like paladin cecil and yang on your team again.

I always turned battle speed up all the way, i liked it that way with the battle style.
Yes i really love the music for this game, in fact its my second faveourite Final fantasy soundtrack. FF6 comes first.

I played the DS version on my cell phone, active time battle on normal difficulty. I found it to be MUCH more difficult than the SNES version. I also played a fan translated version of the Super Famicom and can't remember how that compared. I think it kept crashing halfway through...

To me, the DS version is infinitely better than the original. The original will always have the nostalgia factor but I feel like the DS version improved upon it in every way without sacrificing anything that made the game great in the first place.

Edit
Oh, and Edward is much more useful in the remake too, because he was absolutely useless in the original. I like being able to choose the song instead of having it be random, allows for better strategy. Salve is a useful skill as well.

I think the DS version is quite hard... I haven't beaten it TBH, though mainly that was to my failure to properly get the augment in Kaipo... and thus missing Omnicasting which from what I can tell is vital.
