...that doesn't want a remake? As novel as it would be, and as amazing as it would be to see the game with up to date graphics, soundtrack and a correctly translated script I think a remake wouldn't have the same feel or magic as the original. Just my opinion but I kinda hope Square doesn't release remake and just leave the game as it is, an unpolished gem.

That and people have been wanting a remake for so long that, if one finally does come out, people are bound to be disappointed in it for some reason(s) or another. Think of Duke Nukem Forever.

Also there's too many variables that, if adjusted, could completely ruin a remake i.e. the battle system and the materia system. I've just finished my umpteenth playthrough and I can honestly say that no matter how it's done, a remake would unquestionably pale in comparison to the original.

Yeah, I don't think you're alone on this. I agree with your points, especially about the magic potentially being gone. To add another point though, is that FF7 has a special place in the history of video games and JRPGs. So the "problems" with the limited technology not only added charm to the game (which may not be present with new tech... see Advent Children), it also places FF7 within a time frame that makes it enjoyable to go back to and to appreciate what the developers accomplished (despite the difficulties).
I'm not entirely against remakes, but I am skeptical of them. The basic question I like to ask is, what is the purpose of the remake? If it will add something to the game then I'm okay with it. Usually, as you say, it usually detracts (see Robocop). I'm not saying I wouldn't play it, or that it doesn't have potential to be good, but I am saying that FF7 doesn't need the remake. -------------------- |

I was mildly interested when the rumors first started coming around, many, many years ago. However, I'm really not sure that the game has aged as well as it should have to make a remake work. I know I'm spamming up CoNcast episodes in here today, but, hey, here's another: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...ast-episode-16/ If you listen to that, there's a lot more conversation about what I and a few other CoN folks think about a remake than we could put in a forum thread. For my part, though, I'd probably get and play a remake but I really don't think it's vital enough to be one of those folks out there whining and begging for it. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I'd rather not see a remake either. After the release of Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core the whole franchise started to feel like it was being controlled by the writers of bad fanfiction and the game turned a bit sour for me. I tried to replay it again recently but put it down shortly after arriving in Junon. It felt like every ounce of magic it ever held had been sucked away in a whirlwind of fangirls and fancy new CG. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing the characters come to life via new tech, but it lost it's luster very quickly.
Then, when Sony yanked our collective chains with their 'demo' for their new graphics by way of remaking the opening sequence and everyone I knew spazzing about it only to be let down and left bitter, I wanted nothing to do with it anymore. The game is still special to me, don't get me wrong; just leave it the way it is. -------------------- |

I would buy a remake if they did a good job. But I'd hope they wouldn't change the story, even a little bit. I saw a nice looking anime a couple of years back, which shows that bit where Cloud
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Which was terrible, these things should not be changed. takes on Seph for the first time. But they changed it and Seph jumps into the mako on purpose instead of being thrown in. But I digress, I was excited for a remake when the tech demo arrived, but now I accept it may never happen. Hopefully they will at least give FFXII the HD treatment like they have just done with FFX. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

Nope. I would despise a remake, because knowing Square today, they'll find a way to ruin it. I want SE to get themselves sorted and all-together and making good games again on consoles before they ever touch Final Fantasy 7 again. I just have this horrible vision of Final Fantasy 7 remake : on the cellphone ! -------------------- Top Three fave Final Fantasies Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy V [ GBA ] |

For my part, I do not care. If I do not like the remake, I can always just play the original.
