hi all,

just a quick question, does it matter at which level I change the class of my characters?

I checked the main site under the job class section, but it didnt say the stats bonus at
level-up for the upper classes.

also, can the characrers go over lv 100?

thx

The earlier you change class, the better, I'd say from my experience, since, IIRC, it boosts stat growth.

As for the level cap, depends on the version, since the level cap for NES was 50, I think. As for the other versions, I can't remember, but I don't think it goes above 99.

Why would you want to level that much anyway? The game's easily beatable in 30s to 40s.

In the original NES version, the max level is 50. In the GBA and PSP versions, the max level is 99, IIRC.

Really, you want to change classes as soon as possible. There aren't any specific benefits for doing it later, and the sooner you change classes, the sooner you can use the best equipment and learn additional spells for any non-BB/Monks.

Also, keep in mind that CoN doesn't cover all of the new additions to FF I's GBA and PSP versions yet; it's being worked on. However, if you have any questions that you can't find in the guide, feel free to ask around on the forums.

That's not quite true...

There are better stat bonuses for a Master than a Monk, a Knight than a Fighter and so on. In addition to equipping better weapons/armor, you want to change classes quickly because of those stat bonuses - IMO.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've recently been playing my FF1 nes cartridge and I've been kinda wondering when to change class.

I realize changing earlier allows me to equip better gear sooner, but my question lies in stat bonuses. Such as, if I level til cap, then change class, will I receive the most stat bonuses? Or would it be more beneficial to level to 10, then just rush to the class change?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I'm still not convinced that the bonuses are better after the class change, from my own experience, but there's mixed opinions around the internet regarding that. I've never been put at a serious stat disadvantage in the game, so my recommendation is to just play the game how you want to, at your own speed, and class change at the first opportunity. Don't sweat over it - it doesn't seriously affect the game's difficulty, if it even affects anything at all.

I thought as much. The only real reason I ask is that i'm the type of player who will max out clouds stats in FF7. So... it's in my behavioral traits to seek out the optimum time to change class in order to reap the greatest stat bonuses.

either way I'm really starting to consider a solo WHM playthrough.

Many people have passed throught the hard work of getting to Bahamut at Lv.13 so that their stat growth is greater, as in the Knight and Ninja can have more MP.

I don't believe it's such an issue in the GBA/PSP version since you can keep acquiring items that increase your HP and MP as much as you need to in the bonus dungeons.

Having maximum MP doesn't really mean anything for Knights or Ninjas really, since you can use items like the Giant's Gloves for whatever purpose you need. I guess it's not a bad thing to have maximum stats at the end of the game.
