Quote (MetroidMorphBall @ 16th June 2018 23:28) Was looking for a Persona 5 thread and this was the closest thing I could find. So interesting to see the possibility of the game being discussed four years before its release. I'm a little late to the party, but Persona 5 is the best JRPG I've played in a long time. To be honest, over the past decade I've probably played more Western RPGs. FFXV was fun but it didn't give me the same feeling I used to get from old school JRPGs. Persona 5 gives me that feeling. And I'm wondering if a big reason is the turn based battle system. Turn based has gone out of style, and Persona 5 proves that it can still work. It has a number of innovative features while still maintaining the traditional turn based system. Now, obviously that's not the only reason this game is great. There are incredible characters and plot, interesting social interactions set in modern day Tokyo, and a variety of other things. But after assuming turn based systems had gone the way of dinosaurs, it was refreshing to see a game pull it off so well. So I played Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal. Royal is worth the extra purchase. This game is magical and I never thought I would say this but Persona 5 is the best of the series. You won't think so your first 6 - 8 hours as the game does a Heavy Rain thing and purposely makes you feel like crap for the tutorial which is 6 - 8 hours long before it stops holding your hands. Also during Persona 5 the only bad thing I'll say is at times you're forced to stay inside and not go out because of a major test or event which makes you nervous. Persona 5 does tell you "Take your Time" Royal solves this issue by allowing you to study and raise your stats and craft for the most part during these 'lock downs' by your feline friend. With that said I maxed everyone out and my stats in Royal except one person before the 1st Game's last boss. With Royal though you do have another semester to make it happen. -------------------- His Divine Shadow |
