I'm late to the party, and these forums are kind of late to... well, everything. But I'm wondering who among our remaining forum visitors are currently into using Discord for their various community needs? We've been kicking around the idea of using Discord more for various CoN purposes these days and I'm curious who out there might be interested in such a thing.

I use discord for most of my community needs lately, just because it integrates really well with a lot of the twitch streams I subscribe to or am part of. Part of the reason I don't really hang about on forums or on IRC as much is just because the discord threads effectively serve the same role. I've already kicking around in the CoN discord server as is, so feel free to jump in the pool. Sometimes its nice to just hang out in a voice chat with some pals, you know?

I'm on Discord, but not in group chats. I'd be more than open to it, though

Well I do have it and even signed on with three...I guess they're called groupchat? Anyway, yeah I have it, but I tend not to use it because these places have like two dozen chat rooms going on with each of 'em and no one is EVER in the voice chats, so I tend to get overwhelmed and just forget it's in m y system tray.

Kinda like how I used to be with CoNchat in those many years ago when I actually used it. tongue.gif

I actually regularly use both IRC and Discord, and I maintain that IRC is better than Discord for text chat, for a variety of reasons (choice of network, distributed connection resources, choice of client, plaintext interface, join and part messages, etc.).

Though the CoN IRC channel is sort of out-of-the-way for me and I don't really know any of the regulars there particularly well, so I don't show up enough myself. (I'm sorry...)

(I usually hang out on a few other networks.)

I wouldn't mind joining a CoN Discord group, but it might just end up as one of a variety of groups I "idle" on.

I do love to chat. I've had discord for a while but haven't done a whole lot with it. I'm definitely interested.

I'd go for it, it's a more accessible platform nowadays, and the voice channels might be handy down the line for gaming sessions (UT revival, anyone?)

Posted by: Rangers51 27th September 2018 15:35
I don't think a UT revival is on the cards! However, we are rolling with Discord. I have it built out so that our Discord server and our IRC channel can talk to each other, so joining one will still let you hang out with folks who are in the other. For more info:

If anyone has seen any other cool integrations or features from other Discord servers that you'd like to see CoN try, let me know and I'll have a look!

Ive got insomnia and decided to try out Discord, but the invite link on the CoNChat page says it is expired. Any chance the link can be updated, or is there another way to join? Im a complete Discord newbie.

Thank you for reminding me - someone mentioned that the other day but Christmas derailed me badly! I think for now the link on https://www.cavesofnarshe.com/chat/ should still work, and Ill get the link in the left nav fixed when I am back at a keyboard.

Hope youve slept recently. smile.gif

Edit
The link in the nav should be fixed now.
