<- in theme and spirit, if not in thread.
Burnout of my usual gaming haunts have driven me to fire up that FF6 version-hack I didn't finish nearly 10 years ago. If you look extra hard you can find some of my posts about it. Final Fantasy 6 has a very special place in my heart. And, while this might be sacrilege to say in this place: I never really developed a desire to play any of the sequels. Actually I was supposed to go through FF7 at some point. I always meant to give it a spin after transcending the "but aww.. I dont have a playstation!" days of way back then. Somehow I never did. Some friends of mine got me to watch that CGI movie that was like an epilogue to the game not long after it was released. What was it... Advent Children? Or something? My reaction was along the lines of, "What is this? BDSM dudes crying about their mother and fighting about it? Do I *want* to go back and experience the story that makes sense of any of this?" Though, to be fair, perhaps THAT was the mood that the creators always had in their head. 16-bit sprites and limited weird translations just gave a lot more room for interpretation and I guess mine was quite different. Anyway. That is my foreword. I have ranting to do, but it's out of sequence & jumbled. I'll add long blocks of unbroken text later, through edits. That's probably breaking some kind guidelines on how to form, but that is how it's got to be. In the meantime; hello FF6 forum. Long time. <reserved for edits and additions> |

I once played the PC version of FF7, which crashed unavoidably at the first chocobo race, so I dropped it. Oh well.
I'm still not particularly inclined to return to it... -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. TMNT 3: Radical Rescue tabled: Lost Ruins |

I cant even play knights of the old republic because it crashes but i think you should at least try out ff7 again both of you.
As for interesting things to try out from ff6:I happen to wonder if anyone played the gba version of ff6 here? what about the wii version? -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. Neil Degrasse Tyson. |

The Wii version is the same as SNES, though I seem to recall it does do a couple bugfixes. I've played the GBA version through and rather like it, and it was the basis for the gameplay (if not the visuals) of the mobile and Steam release, so you can also choose to do those versions. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

If I do replay FFVI it will likely be i90east's Expert Version.
Unfortunately, of the various cartridge game publishers, only Sega seems to be on board with letting people make romhacks of their games. I'd recommend a retry of playing VII, as well. I thought it was JUST THE BEST back in ze day, but eventually I grew up and decided to spend my adult life replaying FFV. So there's that.
I personally prefer the GBA FFVI to the SNES FFVI. I like the new content, and I no longer have the option of cheesing vanish-doom. It introduces new bugs, so Bad Breath is night useless, but still think it'll be my go-to version for the foreseeable future. I hear someone's doing a graphics hack of the Steam version of VI, but until that goes through I'm not touching it. The portraits, character sprites, monsters, and backgrounds are four different clashing aesthetics, and I will not stand for this! But if it works for you, it's prolly fine. -------------------- I shall now return to my cave |
