Both of these tracks had lower seeds but performed admirably in round one. Trisection beat down one of my long-time favorites, Matoya's Cave, recording four votes to every one. Dust to Dust is the surprise of the last round, having knocked off the runner-up from 2010, Terra's Theme.
If you want a game's soundtrack that is mainly about war, Final Fantasy Tactics is where you go. One war ends, another begins, skirmishes crop up between armies and individuals. As one of the many themes that play over the top of individual battles in Tactics, you're introduced to Trisection as soon as the swords come out, and it immediately sets the tone. Like some other tracks from the Final Fantasy XIII series that made it in, Dust to Dust this is a largely ambient piece with vocals used primarily as an instrument. It plays in Oerba, and reflects the danger and secrecy inherent. |

My vote for Dust to Dust in its last match-up was definitely surprising, but now it's up against my favorite track in this entire competition. No surprise where my vote's goin' this time!
That said, should Trisection fall this round, at least it'll be to a worthy opponent. With that said, GO TRISECTION GO! -------------------- |

Dust to Dust is really fighting a tough road all the way through it seems.
I still like it more than Trisection, and more than most FF music due to its emotional weight. Epic themes are a dime a dozen, but this one can really make me stop and think about it in terms of the game context. Nothing left to fear, L'Cie... |

Another battle of the B minor tracks!
While Dust to Dust is pretty, Trisection is just more epic. Trisection has much greater variety of harmony, tonality, melody, and instrumentation -- and leverages them to create a tense track that ebbs and flows in a complex and interesting way. My vote goes to Trisection. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. Quote (Galsic @ 17th November 2017 16:49) That said, should Trisection fall this round, at least it'll be to a worthy opponent. Should Dust to Dust fall this round, at least it will be to an extremely worthy opponent. Trisection is a rich tune. I dig how those low horns give it a bit of an underbelly. Despite these positives, it simply does not evoke the feelings that Dust to Dust does. Like I said before, it fills in some emotional gaps that the game leaves behind during the player's time in Oerba. I'm happy the song made it past the first round, but I'd love to see it go further This post has been edited by Harlequin on 18th November 2017 21:14 -------------------- |
