Explain to me how you can leave Gau on the Veldt before the Opera House? My only guess is that you walked all the way there from Narshe, which would take so long it wouldn't be worth the time.

I prefer to pick up Shadow after Zozo so he'll actually learn some spells before the Floating Continent.

But you don't want to take him to the Opera House. He will get bored and leave. You will be stuck with two characters for the Ultros fight and three for the Magitek Factory.
