I was playing tactics the other day and thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be cool if demons were poachable?". Then I thought, "What items would they drop?". So this is what I came up with:
Apanda Simmering Hatred (Perfume) Speed +2, Physical AT +2, Always: Berserk, Cost: 30,000 Demon Rod Power: 6, Evade: 20%, Magic AT +2, Always: Innocent, Add: Innocent, Cost: 15,000 Archaic Demon Demon Mantle Phys Evade: 45%, Magic Evade: 30%, Absorb: Dark, Weak: Holy, Cost: 50,000 Demon Lance Attack: 18, Evade: 10%, Dark Elemental, Cast: Dark Holy, Cost: 70,000 Ultima Demon Demon Plate HP: 170, MP: 0, Half: Dark, Weak: Holy, Cost: 80,000 Ultima Sword(Knight's Sword) Attack: 30, Evade: 15%, Cast: Ultima, Cost 1,000,000 I know some of these look pretty broken, but with their appearances limited to story battles and being the least of your worries with the Lucavi Express barreling down on top of you in those battles, I feel it's justified. So there you go. I await comments, criticism, and your ideas. I must say that I LOVE Simmering Hatred, as well as the whole idea of making demons poachable, but I don't particularly like the Demon Rod: 1) from a gameplay/mechanics standpoint, why would you want your spellcaster to be Innocent, thus hampering spellcasting? and 2) from a flavor/fluff standpoint, I find it hard to believe that contact with demonic items would make one Innocent; I realize that part of this feeling stems from other media in which that would be wholly true in both mechanics and fluff, and that Tactics sort of reverses things on us, but I still can't get past it. (Perhaps I should be revisiting my issue with the whole Innocent status, but now doesn't seem to be the proper place for such a discussion.)
Great topic, btw. I don't really have any specific suggestions beyond those already given, though I might have liked to see unique item types, or under-utilized ones (like perfume, perhaps another reason I love Simmering Hatred). |

Thanks for the input. I didn't know that Innocent killed your ability to cast spells. I thought it only affected ones on the receiving end of spells like Faith does. About nit being "Innocent" by using a demonic item, I was going by in-game description of Innocent as it makes the character lose faith in God.
Edit Yeah, just read the description a little bit more carefully and you're right, it does affect damage dealt as well as recieved. Crud... Moderator Edit Merging a double post. -R51 After thinking about what you said about under-utilized items, I came up with this: Demon's Fist (Hammer) Power: 27, Evade 0%, Add: Confusion, Cost: 65,000 This post has been edited by ramza_beoulve on 10th September 2011 17:43 -------------------- A hero is somone who steps up when everyone else backs down. Now, if only we could remove the randomized damage of Hammers/Flails. Here's an idea: Brimstone Boots (Shoes) Add: Teleport // Cost: 99,000 By the way, if there were a way to have the game act as though you were innocent when resolving enemy spell damage, but utilizing your regular Faith score for your own spells, that would be A) ridiculously cheap, and fantastically cool. |

Each of those items are very easily created with the current tools out, too, except the Faith thing. That'd require some ASM. Way back before I started modding, I had the below ideas- many of which are being used even today!
Eau de Malboro "Rancid perfume that drives enemies away." Evasion/Magic Evasion: 40% Auto: Poison Rare Poach: Malboro Tonberrian "Dagger drenched in foul, crimson blood." WP: 1 Deals damage equal to user's lost HP. Rare Poach: Tonberry Swordbreaker "Dagger used to entangle and snap weapons." WP: 6 25% Cast: Hellcry Punch Poach: Minotaur Gambler's Whip "Flail imbued with a fickle spirit." WP: 15 25% Cast: Cure IV Rare Poach: Ghost Tranquilizer "Gun that shoots lethal injections of sleeping toxin." WP: 6 Inflict: Sleep Poach: Jura Aevis |

I mean, I'd never use the Gambler's Whip, but that's just personal preference; everything you've got here is flavorful and balanced (like General Mills' Total Cereal....). |

WP: 9 On kill: Add Protect (self) On crit: unit's Attack command taken away Poach: Vampire I love the use of unique abilities. Here's a few more from me: Brimstone Bag (Bag) "Hand-sewn by an outsider named Prada, these bags are stylish yet contain ample room for both necessities and luxuries--a luxury indeed." WP: 23 Always: Equip Change [i.e. the character needn't use an ability slot for Equip Change--it is always considered to have it] [Poach: Ghost] The King in Yellow (Book) "This play, long presumed lost, has long baffled critics not only with its elusive and allusive nature, but also with the strange occurrences surrounding its performance: players often begin performing a completely different play, but all maintain such is part of the performance. Some of the lines catch your eye: "Songs that the Hyades shall sing, // Where flap the tatters of the King...", "Indeed it's time. We all have laid aside disguise but you.", "Oh, thou who burn'st in heart for those who burn // In Hell, whose fires thyself shall feed in turn..." WP: 16 Adds: PERFORMING [On each turn, the affected character begins reciting lines from the play (losing its turn); in addition to this effect, his allies (to whom I imagine he is reciting) begin either to become Confused (50%), PERFORMING (25%), or unscathed for that round (25%). [Poach: Queklain <--Because how cool would it be to poach the physical body of a Lucavi?] Apollyon [the Destroyer] (Fell Sword) "When the old gods were overthrown (or so history tells us), the angel of the pit wielded this blade." WP: 26 [To pair it off with Durandal] Effect: When Apollyon inflicts the final blow on an enemy, the wielder gains a quickened turn. Getting Quick'd on kill would be pretty sweet.
Blast Furnace (Knife) "You scratch my back..." Range: 1 WP: 16 When performing back attack: unit flies forward until they hit an obstacle (if obstacle is unit, deal damage equal to tiles traveled * 20). Poach: Grenade Unforgiven (Sword) "And stay down." Range: 1 WP: 13 On kill: Unit cannot be revived (undead only) Killed units will always crystallize Poach: Bone Snatch Narcissus (Shield) "Only a fool attacks straight on!" S-EV%: 20% M-EV%: 20% 45%: Reflect weapon projectiles (like reflectable magic, except projectile ricochets at right angle based on direction shieldbearer is facing; only works on flank/front) Poach: Mindflare South Star (Axe) "Things're headin' south." Range: 1 WP: 20 Reverses enemy's smart-targeting attacks (while in attack's range) On damage taken: Allies within 2 panels have Short Charge until next AT (while in range) Poach: Minitaurus Phi Caliber (Lance) "That ain't snow falling." What about this one: The Serpent-bearer's Vestige (Staff) "The gnarled oak sympathizes with the dead and dying, and seems to whisper in an ancient dialect when they are near." Range: 2 WP: 8 Effect: Wielder gains an MP-based Regen status, and when within two spaces of a dying character/creature, the wielder gains bonus MP (say half-strength magic break?). Poach: Serpentarius Shield of the Valiant (Shield) "The shield depicts both the heroic exploits and daily struggles of some of the Hokuten's finest men, lost at Dugeura Pass during the 50-Year's War." Physical Ev%: 45 Magic Ev%: 30 Immune: Effects that would lower Brave Effect: If an enemy attacks from behind, it loses 10 Brave.
