Despite being available last time, Freya's Theme didn't make it into the brackets. This time around, the Burmecian slides in just above the midway point of bracket #2, with her character's theme and its haunting melodies.

You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet, beyond having just a very long title, strikes a chord with Final Fantasy VII games due to its place in the narrative, as well as its sound which would place it well in the score of a slow-burning mystery film. You might be a little worried when this track plays, and you'd have good reason.

Both are quality, haunting tracks, but, as Mr. Rangers notes, You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet has a decidedly chilling tone that, when combined with the associated scene, makes for a rather tense atmosphere. Freya's theme doesn't compare.

I might have noted it, but I definitely voted for Freya. I've come to the conclusion that the FF9 soundtrack is badly underrated over the time since it was released on Steam. smile.gif

FFIX has a fantastic soundtrack, no doubt.
However, You Can Hear the Cries of the Planet carries a lot of weight both in game, and in the context of the real world, with humanity's own misuse of the Earth.

Y'know...having heard neither of these in game...i find neither track to be particularly impressive. That said, they're both in D minor, and they do both have "haunting melodies". The funny thing is that now that I'm trying to recall one I'm instead bringing up the other in my head.

I'll need to mull on this for a bit.

Edit: I have my decision. I prefer Freya's Theme. It's more musically interesting. It's actually sorta grown on me, after I realized that it's not a particularly fast theme, but something that builds up an atmosphere slowly.
