Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy VI > Wow, uh... no 25th Anniversary Love, eh

Dang. I kind of expected to come in here and see some kind of activity going on.

FF6 was released in America 25 years ago last Friday, as FF3.

Sometimes I wonder if the FF fandom has mostly just moved on, and only diehard FF7 fans remain... Sad feels.

I think that is awesome, and I love FF6, but I just don't remember dates.

You don't want to ask me when WWII happened, for example. I'll be close, don't get me wrong, but it won't be the right dates.

Y'know, it does surprise me how little coverage this game gets. It's often considered the best in of the 2D era, if not the entirety of the series and yet its talked about almost as little was II and III. You can't take a step on YouTube without landing on a video essay of VII, IV or even IX, but VI is practically a bunch of cricket chirps. This, to say nothing of Square's complete disinterest. I just don't get it.

I did have an ff6 shoot back in September but our Photographer just started work as a flight instructor as since he does all the shoots for free, they get put on the back burner for real life. Which, trust me, is a good thing to see in the cosplay community. He did release one shot to me for the anniversary, but yeah...the 25th was really quiet. I'm saddened by this. I wouldn't say I'm a rabid fan of 6 but it's definitely still my favorite.

I'd prefer a FF6 or FF9 remake tbh.

This.

FF6 has always been my favorite in the series. I wish they had done a little better with the remaster or whatever you want to call it - for mobile, etc. Or at least bring a port to the current gen systems. (Trophies / Achievements wouldn't be bad either) I have FF6 for SNES / Gameboy SP/ and on PS3. I refuse to get the mobile version because I don't think it does the game justice. If anything, it takes away from the original imo. It's good to see that a few of you share the love still for FF6 the same way I do. Cheers.

I'd love to see a remake if done true to the original unlike VII Remake.

But Honestly I've been clambering about the idea they should do a collection of I-VI both with the originals and complete versions with all the expanded content on Switch or all platforms but Switch is what I'd buy it for. But I doubt Square Enix will give in or see my Facebook posts or You Tube Channel.

Most perfect. Though I've eternalized this game to the point where I don't consider how old it is. It'll always be a huge part of my life.

Some of this thread is amusing to read post- PR release, lol. smile.gif

On Square's end, Japanese companies can be kind of provincial and I get the impression in Japan Final Fantasy VI isn't quite considered the milestone that it is in the US. It was a popular smash hit, of course, but being the sixth in a series, the third on the SNES alone, and in the midst of a completely saturated genre, it doesn't stand out in Japan as much as it does in the US where it was only the third entry in a series that was probably the only RPG most people could even name at the time.

I've also heard some murmurings over the years that because of some of the bugs and the way you could customize your characters via Espers and such to really mess around with the balance that some Japanese fans consider FFVI to be more "sloppy" than previous entries.

Doing some googling, though, I do find quite a bit of 25th anniversary coverage on the usual game blogs, and it seems FFVI retrospectives have picked up on YouTube since this thread was made, especially after the PR releases.

Me, I feel like I'm in the midst of an early 30th anniversary celebration. Cheers! flag-red.gif flag-blue.gif flag-olly.gif
