Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy VII > I never liked Aeris

She looks too much like my sister.

And 4 and 6 turned me on to blondes and green-haired chicks.

Some people don't take to her. However she's definitely my type. I prefer the Aeris, Celes, and Yunas of this world to the Rikkus, Tifas, and Terras.

Its all about Ashe, Yuna and Rikku and Tifa.

Tifa for some reason.I like her personality and body.

I never really put Aeris on My top ten Final Fantasy girls list.

It's allways been Tifa for me. She is strong, with two rather large err...assets. Se my full list in the General Squenix gaming forum!

Hmm, I would have switched Terra and Celes in those lists. Being a straight girl, my opinion is extremely loose, but I tend to think the girls with the softest eyebrows are the prettiest. Aerith had prettier eyebrows in the sequels. I like Terra and Serah best, though. Their names rhyme.

I ended up rather enjoying Aeris, both as a character and fighter (not to mention her theme is super-memorable, even after years of not playing). She just misses my top 3 characters in the game, though. In a perfect world, I'd kick Cloud to the curb and have a sweet Aeris/Yuffie/Nanaki party all day e'ery day.

Finally got the game for Christmas. :DDD Aeris is a lot more fun than I expected. I thought she would be all gentle and timid or whatever but out of the two of them, Aeris seems to be the happy-go-lucky one. She also has pretty great magic. I ship Cloud with Tifa though.

I didn't like her, but I didn't totally hate her either The only thing about her that really annoyed me was that she was alive and well in Kingdom Hearts :S

I agree with ker. I never disliked her but I loved the other characters so the fact she was just there when everyone else was so loveable made me never play with her

Advent Children and Crisis core pretty much ruined Aeris for me. I did like her, and her mysterious, yet childlike ways. Then came the "I cared about Zack, and only cared about Zack and not Cloud" thing. That added depth, but took away any sympathy I might have had.

My general rule is to ignore everything with the title FFVII except the original game! tongue.gif

I'm actually surprised that people don't like her. Is it possibly because people believe she was basically "made" to be lovable, because of you-know-what? In other words, do some people feel that she's contrived purely to bring emotion to the game? Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I thought that she was a crucial character for Cloud's development, and that she was portrayed very well, whether the character was contrived or not.

I've always preferred Aeris in my playthroughs, not only from that aesthetic point of view, but because of her personality.

She's just a bright, positive person to be around in this dismal place that is Midgar. She has a soft, kind heart. And while being street-smart, she still endeavors to see the best in any situation. She just cares, and that's nice, dangit.

That's not to say Tifa doesn't, but I do find she's heavy-handed in her affections for Cloud and can be almost too... motherly? Is that what I'm looking for? Like... she invests a bit too much of herself in him, becoming almost co-dependent, I feel. But, I do loves my Tifa, as she's also a swell gal that stands up for herself, and her friends, and there's nothing wrong with that.

As for the aesthetic end of things, I like the design of Aeris, and at the point of my life I was playing the game, my crush bore some resemblance to her, so I always named her after my highschool crush. This likely made me more biased toward her haha. Plus, not many people can rock a pink denim vest and combat boots like Aeris does. And dem bangs.

Finally, dat magic, though. As a dedicated caster she's nigh peerless with natural stat growth, I think. She's obviously supposed to be naturally gifted due to her bloodline and all that, but dang, it IS a blow when you can't have that power to use again. She makes a great healer.

As a character, I was fond of Aerith. She was a little light in the dark, so to speak. But she took everything she was equipped with to her watery grave, so then I was a little less fond of her.
Fun fact: Early on in VII's development, Aerith was supposed to be Sephiroth's sister. There's traces of that in their similar bangs...

Yeah, I forgot that happened, that sucks!

But, I think that this could be said about other opinions you've had on this forum: you're blaming Aeris when you should be blaming the game designers! The people of Doma didn't choose to have the water be bright purple any more than Aeris chose to keep her equipment with her.

I'm not trying to blame her(when you're dead, you can't exactly remind people to remove your stuff), if anyone was to blame it was the party for forgetting. tongue.gif

I like the idea of Cloud rifling through her pockets right before he lets her go tongue.gif

But what I'm saying is that you said you were less fond of her, you see my point?

Yes, but I was only a little less fond of her. Not enough for me to say it made me not like her. It's more like a minor annoyance. biggrin.gif

I actually liked Aeris more after playing Crisis Core.

The thing about FF7's romantic arc is that for the first disc, it is essentially completely open to the player to decide. Some people choose to court Aeris while others go for Tifa or even Yuffie. You can even try for that rare Barret date. The problem is that Aeris doesn't really act differently if you do not show affection towards her. If you do, great, she returns the feeling. If you try to push her away and aim for Tifa, suddenly Aeris's character comes off as overly flirtatious and pushy.

Furthermore, I always got the impression that Aeris was drawn to Cloud only because she reminded him of her ex (Zack). So I didn't really care for her until I got to see her relationship with Zack, which seemed more genuine to me.
