I have begun my journey through FF5. I am at the city of Karnak.
After finishing my play through of FF4, I was anxious to move on to the next one. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with 4. Seems like everyone else really liked it, to me was 'meh.' FF5 feels like there will be a lot of grinding going on to level up all the classes to max out. Is that what I should be aiming for? I imagine I can beat the game without doing that, but all the guides I've seen talk about mastering the classes to prepare for Mime and Freelancer. That's what I've been doing between each town it feels like. Grinding out levels. I like the job system thus far, but at the same time it is a little overwhelming. All these classes with different abilities. What do I choose? What works best? What jobs suck? Kirk or Picard?? (Sisko is the answer to that one) I would be interested in hearing other peoples thoughts and opinions. Advice as well. |

It is entirely possible to beat the game without using freelancers/mimes - that's what the Four Job Fiesta is all about. Heck, I once beat the game with four melee classes (no healer!). Whether you choose to go the freelancer route depends on your play style. I have q save in which I maxed every class, but it's very time consuming and by the time you do it, your characters are high levels making the final boss trivial.
If you really do want to level all the classes, know that late in the game there are monsters that give good ABP. Vilia give 25 ABP and are found in the same region as monsters who give 8 ABP, so are a popular place for class grinding. You can also get 100 ABP by feeding elixirs to Magic Pots in Phoenix Tower (also late in the game). Are you planning to fight the optional bosses? If so, you'll need someone who can berserk Shinryu, so a White Mage, Chemist, or a staff user with a Power Staff. For Omega, I recommend bards, though beastmasters also work. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch! Good to know I wont be expected to master all the classes.
I do not plan on beating the option dungeons/bosses. Ive played 1-4 so far and have skipped all the bonus content. I personally dont consider it important to do those extra things. |

I'm in a similar boat as you, I played FF4 and found it really average and not too exciting. I made it about halfway through FF3 on PSP, so I'm somewhat familiar with the job system. I'm already liking the job system much better in this game, FF3 forced a penalty on you every time you wanted to switch, and as far as I know you couldn't use abilities from other jobs like you can in this game. I still haven't quite gotten the hang of some of the more exotic jobs though, my strategy so far has been to get everyone some red/white/black mage experience, and then keep them in a strong physical job like knight or mystic knight.

Quote (JTrigger @ 14th September 2017 16:31) I have begun my journey through FF5. I am at the city of Karnak. After finishing my play through of FF4, I was anxious to move on to the next one. I'm glad you're asking because this game is very easy once you get the hang of it. When it was made in the anthology many people asked me how to beat it. Many of the hard battles are avoided. The final boss is easy. There's faq's that can help so once again glad you're asking. In my first and only playthough I had two people with White Magic and myself with time. Better to be safe than sorry. I also bought the magic and defensive equipment first. If I say anymore I'd spoil it. There's a reasonable amount of grinding but not too hard imo. I think figuring out where to go next was a little harder. Edit-Also, I like the Monks. The HP + 30% can help out a great deal. I don't know of a quick way to get to level 99. Beat the game long before that so as a Bare you innate get most if not all the abilities of every characters. At level 58 double 30% plus or 60% plus total puts my Bartz HP at exactly 7900. Of course I only have fight and item command, that's ok with final equipment though. Not too long ago, my game file on the GBA version of the game got erased. I think the cartridge was just a little loose and it caused all the memory to be wiped.
I said to myself, "Well, that's it then. Guess I am moving on the FF6." I have been playing through each FF game in chronological order. Yesterday, I bought the mobile version of 5 and I really like it so far. A couple of things I am wary of but overall I am glad to be able to finish this game as I really like the job system. I also purchased Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. I am excited to play that too. |
