Caves of Narshe Forums > Final Fantasy I > Best Re-Release of Final Fantasy I and II

So, I'm trying to decide which re-release of FFI and FFII to get. I want to play the one that will make the game more enjoyable for me.

I'm currently trying to decide between downloading Origins on PSN or to get the PSP versions. Are they the same? What are the differences? Which is better and please tell me why so I can decide if I like the things that you like about it, don't want to just blindly trust because we might like different things in games.

FYI: Dawn of Souls which I believe was a GBA release and not DS is not an option.

The PSP versions are essentially Dawn of Souls but with prettier graphics and even one more dungeon added in (I think - it's been a few years since I played FFI on there and I haven't done II at all).

Origins is fine and all, but I don't think it gives you anything you can't get in the full PSP releases. I'd go with PSP.

I've heard that Origins has difficulty setting options that can make the games more similar to their original versions.
The PSP versions have more content, but tend to be criticized for being too easy.
I played and enjoyed the PSP versions, but if game difficulty is important to you you might want to go with Origins.

Thank you both for your responses. You told me exactly what I needed to know and I will be going with the PSP versions. @Moombas, though challenge is definitely an important factor, one doesn't want a game to be too hard, I've avoided at least Final Fantasy I in every iteration because the versions that I did play were too hard.

I'd forgotten about the difficulty changer in Origins. But, yeah, not really worth it for that, in my opinion.

Here's an AmaCoN link just in case! smile.gif

Origins by far.

I never played the PSP version but I'm pretty sure it set up like Dawn of Souls and that game is so ridiculously easy it doesn't even make sense.

The cap in the original is 50. I typically finish the game somewhere in the mid to upper 20s. When I played DoS I was over 50 when I finished the game and I didn't grind one time, I just didn't run from anything so I was obscenely overleveled on top of all of the items and incredible amounts of MP and everything else that made it easier. When I was going through the bonus dungeons just wanted around all I had to was spam the FIGHT command and my mages were killing stuff. I'm not saying don't play it if you just want to blow through and see the game but it's absolutely zero challenge.

Not to mention, Origins pretty much fixes all of the bug issues that the original had and has nicely cleaned up graphics. Definitely what I'd recommend.
